Gonna be a tough week!

Tomorrow - pack up the van. Tuesday - drive for 5 hours and unpack the van into my son's dorm room. Stay at hotel with other moms trying not to cry too much. Wednesday - leave with my empty van and drive 5 hours home. :brokenheart: Thursday - work at local elementary school. Finally, Friday will come!
It will be a true test of my new GOOD habits to see if I make it through this week without pigging out!!! Wish me luck!
PS - I also know going to college is a great experience for him, and it will help him to grow up a lot to be away from home. Growing pains is all.

Yikes - I remember it all too well. When our children are doing what we hoped, why do we feel so bad? Listen to some happy music on the way home. Can you stop at a mall on the way home? You could do a quick walk around the mall, then stop and buy yourself a special treat (perfume, not food!).0

That is a great idea, but I will probably just want to get home since it is such a long drive. The only mall is pretty close to home. Where he is going to school is in the middle of nowhere. It is beautiful, but not much to do. The whole town lives for the school, but I think the shopping opportunities will be limited.
One temptation I will have to steer away from is the dairy. They have their own creamery - ice cream and the most fantastic cheese called Cougar Gold. OMG, it is sooooo good! Plus it is in wine country! I think I will be so busy, it should keep me out of trouble. Unless my son wants to get some ice cream. Oh Lordy!0 -
You'll both do just fine.....ice cream, hmmmm, I always ask for a baby size, or try to share with someone. That way you should be able to exercise it off!!!
I must not have been a good mom( ) as I actually enjoyed the fact that my guys went off to college....love it even more that they have wives to be responsible!!!

I actually kind of forced him. He wanted to stay home and go to the local junior college, but he got some scholarships to help pay for school, so I said just go. It is a great life experience. It is very weird to start planning things without him in the picture, though. I will adjust and I have heard you get so used to them being gone that when they do come home it kind of interferes with your life! :laugh:0 -

I didn't really believe it when people told me this, but it is true that you come to love that you actually have your own life again. again. At first when my kids went to college, I was really sad, but eventually I realized I loved not having my life always revolve around their schedules. Then later, when they came home it was fun to see them, but we were ready for them to go back to school.:flowerforyou:0 -
lol oh this thread reminds me of that commercial when the parents are saying goodbye to their son and the dad walks him out to the car before he heads off to college....the kid asks...where's mom....and the dad motions to the house insinuating that its too hard for her to say goodbye....and so the boy leaves....he goes up to the room there she is measuring.....and the husband and her get all happy and say OKAY so the hot tub will go RIGHT HERE!
I know you'll miss him hon, but I think it will be great for you both and you'll really enjoy each other when you are together again....
hugs and thinking of ya!

Ha ha, he must have seen it, because he made it VERY clear that he doesn't want anyone taking over his room when he leaves!!! :laugh:0 -
I've been at uni for 2 years now and it's done me the world of good to fly the nest! I now have a much nicer relationship with my parents; I don't see them as evil dictators anymore  !! I really look forward to seeing my parents now and I'm even going on holiday with just my Mum this Christmas...something that would never have happened before!0
