^^Yes! I joined MFP from a different calorie counting website because the database was better and the settings are more user friendly. I had my food diary set to open until I got several unsolicited messages about how I was going to die/end up skinny fat/never lose any weight/develop an ED/give other people ED because I…

For my home, I would choose item 1. It looks like it gives you versatility to simulate many different lifts without the danger of dropping a bar on yourself whereas with item 2, there isn't really a built in safety. If you could get a power rack, that would be better, IMO. Edit because I mis-read the OP.

Pardon me, but you're saying that you haven't logged your food intake in weeks or months and have been maintaining your weight for about the same amount of time and asking if you should increase your caloric intake? How about just logging your food very accurately for a while and seeing what happens. Weigh/measure…

This is the one that kills me. I get the eye rolling thing going on at this point. Energy balance and whatnot. Someone creating their own energy out of nothing seems pretty incredible.

Same here... Totally thought this was going to go in a different direction.

I lost 30 lbs in 4 months. If I had really buckled down and stayed within my calories all the time, I probably could have lost that much in 3.5 months. For me, your goal wouldn't be reasonable. That doesn't necessarily mean it's not for you. There's also nothing wrong with having that as a goal and adjusting as you go as…

They are serving you a 2 ounce volume portion. Did you weigh it? It could have pretty easily been 28g. Ounces can be used for both volume or weight and fluid ounces (such as a 2 ounce container or volume) are not the same as ounces by weight. Just FYI... Basically, depending on the density, a fluid ounce can weigh more or…

Yes! They have a new one coming out in August (? I think) that looks awesome! The BodyMedia Fit is my best friend. My activity level varies so much from one day to the next (not including exercise, just general daily activity) this has helped me maintain a constant deficit and improved my weight loss (rate and quality)…

^^ Yes! Zucchini/squash/carrot stir fry is ridiculously low in calories for a huge quantity of food. If you need protein, eggs are great or even egg whites.

LIES!! You can never overuse BACON!
-
Also, keep in mind that a volumetric ounce is not the same as a weighted ounce.

hangry Someone doesn't agree with you, they must be hangry. Really? Great argument. /rant coma

OMG, SOOO much this!! Well said! Also completely agree with

Because of the surgery, you are probably on a VLCD. It is important for maintaining muscle mass that you consume adequate protein. If you lose excess muscle (much more likely on a VLCD without adequate protein), you will continue losing weight but when you get to the weight you think you should end at, your body…

Quoting for later reference. Awesome article! Thanks for sharing!

Some people just don't have enough to do in their lives. Until I closed my diary I got nasty messages about the fact that I eat 1200 calories. We've been friends pretty much since I joined here and your weight has been pretty stable since then (down something like 2 lbs?), you're at a healthy weight and your goals are in a…

I think I go to Taco Bell maybe once a year. There is an overabundance of tex-mex in the area and not that many Taco Bells. Haven't gone this calendar year yet. When I did go,I would order a Chicken Quesadilla 520 cal 28g fat 27g protein 4g fiber If I was super hungry, I would add a Crispy taco 170cal 10g fat 8g protein 3g…

^^ This. If you recently started working out (or working out more heavily than you have been) you are probably retaining water. You probably actually lost 2.5 lbs of fat but the water retention makes your weight stay the same. It will probably begin to drop off. Also, definitely log every day even "cheat" days or "off"…

Previous poster was saying that in the title it should have been "A MFP Thread Odyssey" I was just pointing out that the title is grammatically correct as is. Also adding one of my favorite gifs. I don't know why but I get caught up watching it for minutes.

Actually, "an" is the correct word. MFP when pronounced as the letters 'M' 'F' 'P' starts with the sound "em" which means that you would use the word "an" rather than "a." Also, 9, date/one night stand. and

That website (like any other online calculator) relies on measurements and certain equations. Those equations are only right under the best of circumstances and most people don't fit into those. I've found that online calculators often either over or underestimate my body fat. If you want to know and are willing to pay to…

If it makes you feel better (or seems easier to hit) the ACSM recommends 1.2-1.8 grams protein/kilogram of (total) body weight for athletes. Studies have shown no benefit to consuming more protein than that. I like that range better because for me 154lbs/2.2 lb per kg=70kg so 84g on the bottom end and 126g protein on the…

I used to maintain on nearly 4000 calories but I was much more active. I would say that my max caloric intake was probably somewhere around there. I gained weight every time something knocked me on my rear. Two ankle surgeries (after injury) and a pregnancy without appropriately adjusting my intake meant I was gaining a…

Right now, the average amount of cheese an American consumes in a year. My goal is the average weight of a human leg. Not sure why I didn't just cut off a leg to begin with... :grumble:

Ditto...

Really? Reposting already? The answer is the same as posted in the other thread: count your calories, measure your food. You can't out-exercise a bad diet.
-
If you aren't counting your calories, you are probably eating at maintenance. Like they say, "Abs are made in the kitchen." You can do all the exercise you want but if you aren't eating less than you're burning, you won't lose weight.

I started MFP at 185 in January. I'm currently at 154, also close to goal (I'm 5'7'' as well). I haven't had any plateaus. I had a slowdown about ten pounds ago where I got kind of complacent with my calorie counting/ measuring and only lost a pound a week. I bought a BodyMediaFit and buckled down on my…
