  • A few things: Keto really becomes effortless weight loss for some people. They don't even have to think about it and the weight just falls off. Others, not so much. I have to count my calories or I'd overdo it because I have a tendency to eat when I'm not hungry, out of boredom, almost as a way of fidgeting. So, if I'm not…
  • Oh my god, thank you so much for that. That really is all I wanted to say. I really appreciate you hearing me. I worry that I sound sarcastic right now but I'm not trying to be. I genuinely appreciate this a great deal. :)
  • It's not pedantry. It's my whole point. It is quite literally the only argument I'm making.
  • My only point is that this person was being treated unkindly. If you think that's irrelevant, don't respond to me because I don't have another point. Otherwise, I'm saying that there are actual physiological truths behind what this person is saying and it's not nice to treat them like they are just spouting complete…
  • Unless you think carbs don't trigger insulin or that insulin doesn't trigger fat storage, it's accurate in some ways.
  • I'm not actually trying to paint a picture, though. I'm not defending this person's claim. I've already said I don't think the claim is accurate. Let me remind you what my point is here. I'm explaining why calling the things he said, "not accurate in any way" isn't reasonable and is negative.
  • Except that protein isn't one of the three molecules. Are you all just trolling me? This can't be for real.
  • NO. That is not what I wrote. This is what I wrote: Your body uses three types of molecules for fuel: glucose, alcohol, and ketones. Right? Your body uses them in that order. The glucose in your blood is used for immediate energy and it is stored in your muscle as glycogen. So, if your glycogen stores are full any glucose…
  • I may have been wrong about the alcohol, but I clearly stated that the universe of discourse was the three molecules glucose, alcohol, and ketones. Since protein is not on that list, your "correction" was baseless.
  • I'm pretty sure this is what this person was getting at. This is an overview, I'm sure we all understand that this isn't a complete text on the human metabolism. Your body uses three types of molecules for fuel: glucose, alcohol, and ketones. Right? Your body uses them in that order. The glucose in your blood is used for…
  • We did it, guys! I'd like to thank my phrenologist, Gwanwyn Moonwagon, my pet psychic Fred Pancake, and my life coach/junk drawer organizer, Dick Weirdly.

  • My depression has been very close to being incapacitating. And it is rooted in childhood trauma. And I do think of it as being about outlook. I don't mean that as dismissive. There nothing mere about it. Changing the way I see the world has been what I can only describe as an epic battle. And I have had times where I had…
  • Debilitating isn't the same as incapacitating.
  • Thank you! I'm happy, too! :D

  • I don't think there is a single cause. I think it's a lot of different things and would only ever really recommend a multi-faceted approach to dealing with mental health problems. It's genetic, it's epigenetic, it's diet, it's environment, it's your neurology. I think that, if you have great genes and a happy childhood and…
  • This is a strawman. I don't think it is. I think it is a potentially debilitating mental illness with a known link to diet that is almost entirely a problem with outlook. That was what I said about it. I did not even suggest it was all mental illness. I completely agree. In fact, this is the point I am making to you. I am…
  • I don't know why you say this in a post where you make a huge point about medication. I'm not claiming that it is. It is a HUUUUUUUUGE factor. We know that. Depression really just boils down to outlook. The same is true of anxiety. It's a severe dysfunction in outlook but it is outlook. In fact, a great many therapists…
  • I don't know what you think the point is, then.
  • I'm not trying to lose weight. I'm a healthy weight. And I was a healthy weight when I started keto. I actually started keto after getting back up to a healthy weight after being on adderall for treatment resistant depression. I was very thin on that drug. It made me completely lose interest in food but I didn't really…

  • Again, this is completely true of prescription medication.
  • @skeeewur I want to second this but with love and compassion. I'm not angry and I'm not annoyed with you mostly because I don't think anybody is really hurt by your behavior as much as you are. And you aren't doing it intentionally. But this is what you are doing. You are inextricably drawn to negative things and you…
  • I'm so sorry, that sounds terrible. Have you tried an air filter? I also hear good things about salt lamps. Though I've not really tried either as my allergies are gone, now.
  • This is also completely true of mood stabilizers, though. Abilify has an FDA black box warning for completed suicide. The closest I've ever been to killing myself was when I was taking that drug. And there is no way of knowing when a person claims to be helped by it if it is simply the placebo effect.
  • Not probably, it is without a doubt very individual. It's why I give the advice to just try it and see how it affects you.

  • I think it's all guessing in the beginning. You just pick something that seems reasonable then dial it in over time. I don't even think you need to mess with your activity level. Mess with your calorie allowance directly until you find one that works for you.
  • Also, the whole thing is a sliding scale, isn't it? I can tell you from experience that it's possible to injure yourself switching positions while laying on your couch binge watching Breaking Bad. But I would venture to guess that this activity is measurably safer than squatting your own body weight.
  • I used to be so allergic to dogs my eyes would seal shut overnight if there was one in the house. I grew out of it and owned a springer spaniel for 13 years.
  • Without glucose, the body does burn fat but that's what the butter and mct oil in the coffee are, is what people are saying. Your body will burn those fats instead of your body fat. So, if the bpc is only helping you extend your fast two hours and you are only fasting to lose weight, you could skip it. But it doesn't sound…
  • @asibiris, I tried it and my anxiety and depression went away, my mind is clearer and more focused, I'm more productive. My lower back pain eased up. I can not begin to explain it, how it works or what is going on. I can say this: there isn't a cupcake or a pasta dish on this planet. No thank you. The advice I give about…

  • Every day. I don't log every day. I keep the peaks and nadirs in mind. If I were over 156, I'd be a bit worried. If I were under 153, I'd do a little celebration dance. But I'm usually just looking to be in that window.
