Thanks for all the tips and information! I'm do feel really uncomfortable eating 1,750 calories when MFP sets a goal of 1,210 calories for me (and I've been averaging around 1,400 calories for the last 5 months and feeling great). I think I might stick with the MFP calorie calculator instead of going the TDEE route BUT eat…

For activity level, I chose "exercise 3 times a week". When you were averaging 1,800 calories a day, what was your average weight loss? I want to lose 1 - 2kg (2.2 - 4.4 lb) a week, so I'm worried that eating 1,750 a day would let me lose maybe 1/2 kg at the most every week.

I'll add you! 30 lb into a 100 lb journey and always looking for more friends and support on my MFP newsfeed. I don' t use MFP to calculate my different meals but I do plug in the total calories consumed each meal, so we can motivate each other to eat healthy amounts at each meal.

Thanks, these responses are so helpful. So no cutting from my BMR, only cutting from TDEE. I'm calculating my BMR and TDEE using this online calculator: http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/ I know my body fat % and am using the Katch-McCardle equation since I am obese (I've assumed exercise level of 3 times a week to be on…

Just coming back to this thread to add that after reading this, I changed my weight lost meter back to kg. It's so much more flattering to see my weight loss in pounds, but kg reminds me of how much more I need to go (I also grew up with kg so it's way more persuasive to me than pounds haha)!

Couldn't have read this at a better time. 32 pounds down and a couple of compliments from friends and suddenly I feel like the healthiest, fittest person in the world (even though I have a long way to go). Really pushed myself to get off my butt and go to the gym today - even though I didn't do very much - just to keep the…

I'm 5'8", currently at 230 lb, and on days that I don't work out, I try to stick to 1200 - 1300 calories. If I am working out I can go a little higher, to 1400 - 1500 calories, but nothing more than that. Your basal metabolic rate is also affected by how much muscle you have vs fat. I have very little muscle so my BMR is…

Welcome and good luck! As someone who was 260 a few months ago, I totally feel you on the "am I trying to kill myself with bad food" feeling. This is a great community :)

Thanks guys! Slow and steady is the way to go for sure. I don't like MFP's calorie counter interface too much and I've had my own spreadsheet logging all my meals since January, so will probably stick to that and just input the total calories consumed at the end of the day, along with exercise done. It's already been so…
