  • I go for a 30 minute walk on my lunch, take the stairs rather than the elevator, get up and walk a bit every hour / stretch and bring a healthy lunch / snacks. I also walk about 10 minutes to a further streetcar stop before and after work. Not much else you can do..
  • Treadmill vs road is very different. Your stride on a treadmill has more of a rolling motion, especially with running. In fact, I have an old injury that makes my right calf cramp up on the treadmill but doesn't make a peep when I run outside.
  • #7 and #8, for sure. My first year of running was a bit like being manic depressive - really happy then really disappointed. My second year is much better - older and wiser, fewer injuries, getting good at pacing.
  • I do, but I cut my time / mileage in half and take it very easy. I have EIR / EIA, so my breathing is a challenge even when I'm healthy.
  • I'm a bit wary of any tool or offensive weapon being used against me... plus, all the attacker has to do is pin your arms against your body and whatever you have can't be reached. Better to train yourself in self-defense moves - kicking the shins / groin or a palm to the nose.

  • They can be, but they aren't for everyone, especially if you're running in them. If you're curious, I'd suggest transitioning to them slowly from "regular" shoes.

  • I can run on empty as long as I get to the exercise asap after waking up - if I'm awake for too long, my stomach clues in and I have to eat something. Regardless, I try to hydrate with a glass of water beforehand. I tend to lose a lot of moisture overnight (dry apartment).
  • I try not to, unless I've been significantly inactive for a while.. it helps motivate me to lose the "extra" and get back on track. Right now I'm about maintaining, not losing (or gaining!).
