I guess my problem is I'm not sure how to have any point of reference for how many grams what I'm eating weighs. To me, 100 grams means nothing, and with different sizes and densities for different foods I feel like its challenging to wrap your mind around what is 100 grams, 200 grams, etc. If a bag of pretzels says one…

Fine! Lol. I have never once heard someone say "kilojoule" out loud here though. Always calories. Makes me wonder why they use kJ in the first place.
-
I love using grams when I can since it's more accurate, but it's just hard when you're out and grabbing a snack, or dishing out granola or cereal, and theres no point of reference for how many grams you're consuming. Maybe I'll get used to it but for now I feel like I have no idea.

I've never tried it! I'll have to check it out.

Can you get turkey mince at Woolies over there? Maybe they'd have it at Countdown, but couldn't find it at Pak n Save :(
-
I associate lamb with steak, assumed its better to stay away from it. But it's very common here so I could give it a try!

Any suggestions out there on preparing it would be amazing! Thanks guys.

Thanks for the advice :)

That's a good tip. Going to the gym in about an hour, I'll definitely check that out!

I mean I realize that you have to eat at a deficit to reduce any fat, I assumed that was a given with that anecdote. My point was that I have known people to begin an exercise plan and both slim down and develop muscle tone. I assume that with them being sedentary previously, they were not toned to begin with.

Just out of curiosity, I've heard that less reps at a higher weight make you bulk up more than less weight at higher reps. Of course I know this takes a lot of time, but I'll be on this regimen at least through April when the weather warms up enough to be outside, so I'd like to make sure I'm doing what I can to just tone…

I guess my frustration is that I could go up from 30 pounds, but 50 is too heavy for me so I feel like I should be doing more, but I can't.

thanks for the tips! I guess I'll try to face the cold outside :) I'll try to find some cheap, warm clothes. Here, you can run in shorts and a t-shirt every month except February, so my supplies are severely lacking. But worst case I'll just brave the treadmill!

Thanks! I will look into that.

Can someone give me more detail about how weight training helps and what not? I don't doubt it but I just don't know much about it.

I realize that it's conflicting behavior. That's why I'm posting to ask for help. If I had it all figured out and was overcoming all of my roadblocks there would be no need to reach out at all. For whoever asked how much I need to lose, I'm really only looking at about 7 pounds. But it's not really the numbers i'm…

my estimates for running are usually around 100 calories per mile when i run 10 to 11.5 minute miles. Is this a fair estimate?
-
I'll keep all of that calorie information in mind but I'm not ready to hop back on the scale yet. That's part of my problem in monitoring my weight loss right now. But thank you. I'll try to aim for something in that range.

I should have been more clear. Since I'm not exercising the same amount every day I just calculated my sedentary TDEE so I could add back exercise calories manually.
-
Don't worry about it. You're totally fine. Odds are you're not eating EXACTLY the amount of calories you put into your diary and odds are you aren't burning EXACTLY the amount of calories exercising that you put in. People may tell you otherwise but the difference of fifty calories will make absolutely no difference. I…

Make sure you're eating a balanced diet as far as your macros are concerned and DEFINITELY start taking a rest day every week. I'm training for a half marathon and used to exercise every day, but once I gave myself one rest day a week, I felt a lot better and have been able to do better on the days where I do exercise.

Like everyone is saying, the desire to change has to come from within yourself. However, I'd just like to say that when I first lost weight, I did it without exercising a single day. I don't recommend it as a long term solution because exercise is extremely important to your health, but if your biggest problem is just that…

Thank you guys! I'm definitely starting to lean toward Portland (OR, for whoever asked above!) and SF. Being a Floridian I'm definitely a little worried about cold weather wherever I go but for a Summer it shouldn't be too bad anywhere! Is Portland cheaper than SF?

I used to weigh myself weekly and, like you, if ever the number wasn't where I wanted it to be, it'd ruin my whole day. I became obsessed with the numbers when I should have been obsessed with becoming healthy. It made me develop a borderline eating disorder where I quit exercising, hardly ate, and lost a lot of fat but at…

I feel like 1800 calories is an overestimation but it all depends on how much you weigh i suppose. All of my calculations suggest that I burn about 1060-1100 calories on a 10 mile run. Regardless, I suggest you just eat a snack and then allow for a treat or two over the next week.
-
My only qualm is that he says to stop at 10 miles because endurance will push you through the last three... Not so sure about that one :P but thank you for all of the advice! I'm gonna try out sticking to this schedule this week and see how it goes.

Thanks for the tips!! I definitely will be using that link :)
