I am Mary and I'm 52. I have been going about this for over a year... derailed a couple of times but I'm back better than ever. I cut calories, it worked for a little while. Then I went Paleo. That worked too but I found myself at a standstill again. Silly hormones! :) Now I have gone super low carb, super high fat, and…

Because I feel that following Paleo gives me good guidelines and even cutting out a good portion of the sugary and inflammatory foods is a step in the right direction. I do not believe beans are healthy for me. They make my gut hurt and give me gas. How can that be healthy? I should add that I only eat ice cream on special…

My reason for following Paleo is my age. I found that when I hit 50 my body just wasn't using calories like it used to. I was getting that dreaded tire around the middle which I hadn't had in years. My main focus is giving up foods that cause inflammation... beans, grains, processed foods, etc... I searched and found a few…

Every day, 3 or 4 for breakfast.. I fry up some zucchini (about 2 cups!) and sometimes some mushrooms, add the eggs and pepper. When they're done I eat them! yum! Sometimes I can't help it and make some bacon for either breakfast or lunch, then I can't help but fry up a couple more eggs in the bacon fat. YUM! I love eggs.…

I think that's the best way to do it. Start slow. And you don't have to go Paleo 100% of the time. You're allowed to cheat now and then. I like this site: http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2010/10/04/the-beginners-guide-to-the-paleo-diet/ and this one: http://vitaminbk.tumblr.com/post/28698593547/eating-right-made-simple and…

This thread caught my eye because I have recently and gradually gone Paleo. I don't know anything about how it affects someone with PCOS but I can say this: I have never felt better in my life! I was always so foggy-headed and had such ups and downs with my energy levels. I always had a time of day, usually from about 3-6…

I agree. It is low. I try to eat around 100 a day when I can. Or More!!! I think MFP sets it too low. Don't worry about going over 45!

Hi! I just found this thread. I started biking again in April since the ice and snow is gone. So far in May: 5/1 - 11 miles 5/8 - 12 miles 5/10 - 12 miles I hope to set a goal sometime this week. It all boils down to what the weather is. I have a nice park with a great trail to ride on. Lots of hills to climb and…

A piece of whole grain bread with peanut butter. I find it easy to make and just take along and eat on the way to wherever I'm going. A banana. Pretzels. Yogurt. Just a side note: Make sure to eat some carbs. You don't want to get gout.

I love this thread

Well, I did 100. I am so not used to them. 100 is better than none. :D

Mine was taken June of 2011... back when I was 49.

Count me in!

Oh, sorry. I read one post that said something like "Eat all the carbs.. Don't limit them..." and I got defensive for the OP. My bad.
-
Some people can't eat all the carbs they want. It all depends on the person. And sometimes on the age of the person. I used to be able to pack away the calories. Now my metabolism has changed (probably with age) and I can't eat as many carbs. They make me feel groggy too. I wish you all could understand that we're all…

I LOVE this too!!! Made me really LOL! (My husband also started to lose weight (35 days after I started) and he's down 16 pounds already (in 50 days). It's infuriating, I say! I'm down 10 pounds but keep getting stuck. And I'm waaayyy done with having kids! ----just so you know, you're not alone. :)

Sophia Loren is classy! Hmm. I wonder if she eats candy and drinks wine..... p.s. Love me some pasta!!
-
Alcohol... empty calories. Candy... carbs. Take them or leave them but add the calories to your total cals for the day. Is this a test?
-
Yes, eat your carbs! And your protein.. and your fats! All within your goals... They are all important. Every one of them. I repeat. Every one of them!
-
Thank you all. I appreciate the help! I have gradually cut back my carbs over that past couple months and I can't believe how less groggy I feel especially in the morning! As of right now, I aim to keep my carbs under 150g. I am part Italian so I love bread and pasta! It's not so bad giving up large amounts of it though. I…

I appreciate the advice! I guess I opened a can of worms here. lol

The main reason I ask to see what others are eating is so that I can get an idea of what things are out there that I'm missing. I am not interested in losing a lot of weight but, because of my age (51), I am starting to hang onto that fat around my middle and I'm trying to cut carbs (not drastically) to see if that will…

I totally forgot to post my weight loss! This was my first post (4 weeks ago): Hi I'm Mary. 5'7" SW:152 CW:146 GW:136 Today I am here to report that I weighed in at 142 on Week 4! So that is 4 pounds lost!

I LOVE the face in the plate visual. You are too funny!

^^^This... and lots of time. It really does take time. Don't give up!!! It takes a lot of work but it is worth it!

I'm having a hard time too. I think it is a very different story when you are young. Now that I am 51 I try so hard to lose that tire around my waist and it went down some but then popped back up! I work hard, exercise hard (many different kinds of exercise) and I try to eat right. Maybe my body just doesn't require as…

There are so many different ways to exercise that walking is getting pushed aside more often now. We're finally getting better weather for biking and I started Zumba too but only on my own with the Wii. Still a great workout! I hope I hit my goal too. I generally walk on my rest day. At least we stay active and exercise…

Well, I haven't made this yet. Our applesauce in the fridge was bad. So we went shopping today and guess what we forgot? Yep, applesauce. lol
