  • I use liquid stevia to sweeten my morning tea latte, but it does taste a bit strange in hot drinks like someone said upthread, so I use a teaspoon of sugar (or honey) and 5-6 drops of stevia. I'll also use it in iced tea with lemon (no sugar, just stevia). Those are the only things I try to replace sugar in - the reason…
  • LOVE mine to death. I probably use it 4-5 times a week, and turkey burgers work great! I agree that removable plates are a must - the first one I had didn't have removable ones and it was a pain to clean. It doesn't give quite the same cooking experience as a real grill, but I think it's awesome.
  • Man, the first sip of a Mountain Dew after a few months of drinking only tea and water was HEAVEN. Once I didn't drink it for a year or so, and it still tasted just as awesome when I went back to it. So, uh, no, never had that experience. Sort of wish I did, though, so I would stop wanting Mountain Dew. :D (I dislike…
  • Man, the comments here, especially about the ribcage, make me sad. :( Everyone has different body types! Even when I was at my highest weight (150ish), I could see my ribcage if I stood up straight. It's just how I'm built. I have a narrow waist relative to my ribcage, and I don't carry a ton of weight in my torso, just my…
  • I must have a bladder the size of a watermelon compared to most of these responses! I drink at least 64 oz of water/tea during the day, but there are days when I don't pee right before bed and it doesn't seem to be a problem. I've only had to go in the middle of the night maaaaybe twice that I remember. If I was waking up…
  • Awesome! Yay for you! I know that feeling - in fact, it's been the best feeling so far for me. I am very short and my calves are still proportionally pretty fat, but fitting into a regular boot was thrilling. Hallelujah!
  • Kirkland peanut butter is THE BESSSSST. It disappeared from my Costco for like a year and a half and I was devastated. When I saw they had it again I shrieked with pure joy.
  • This is me too lol. It's good till it's bad! Haven't gotten sick from my own fridge/cooking ever.
  • I can't comment on shin splints because I haven't had them since I was a kid (15+ years ago), but I've been using some Pace Gloves for 2-ish months now and I love them! They were my first minimalist shoe, so I was a bit nervous about adjusting to them, but I took it slow and have had no problems aside from some very slight…
  • Ooooh me too me too, except I run outside! Mouth-breather all the way. I HAVE swallowed (or at least caught in my throat) bugs. Yuck. But if I try to breathe through my nose it's an absolute disaster. Except... I have found that it helps me to take a few deeeeeeep breaths through my nose when I'm going up a hill. Not too…
  • This is true! For the last month and a half I lost inches almost everywhere (except hips, grrrr) and the scale has stayed the same. But I'm also only 10 or so pounds away from my goal, so I know progress will be sloowwwwww. I'm 4'11" too - or rather, I like to say I'm 5' with shoes on. :D
  • I second tacos! That's what I'm having tonight, also with Costco beef. Yum!
  • This, a thousand times! I'm glad the rest of you have such a good handle on your mental issues (or don't have any at all), but for most people, it's not that easy. Just knowing that I think/feel illogical things does not magically make those thoughts/feelings go away. (I wish. And I don't have trauma or abuse to explain my…
  • Me too me too! LOL. My right calf is about 1/2 inch bigger than the left. I can see it, but I doubt other people can. My thighs have finally evened out though. :D It's annoying, but I think it's just a fact of life. I'm just glad that my calves fit in boots now...
  • If you don't like tomatoes, don't eat them! I HAAAAATED them as a kid, nearly threw up if I had a raw one, and came to a marginal acceptance of them in my late teen years. If they're raw, I like them chopped as small as possible and seeds GONE, but I can handle them in a sandwich or burger if there's a bunch of other stuff…
  • I got them on one arm too! But mine was during puberty. They're also on my non-dominant arm. The ones on my hips, thighs, and butt I understood and don't have a huge problem with - that's where I started to carry my weight. But ARMS? And why only one?! My arms are both the same size... Why don't I have them on my calves?…
  • Take it from someone who no longer eats wheat because it seems to disagree with my body - please enjoy the gluten-y deliciousness if you can LOL! I love baking bread but I rarely eat it anymore. :( You keep saying "healthy to eat" - I think you're trying to use a definition of "healthy" that doesn't exist. Wheat isn't…
  • I'm fairly sure MSG isn't a preservative, just a flavor enhancer. A version of it is found naturally in some foods (parmesan, tomato paste, mushrooms...) - not that I think it needs to be added artificially, but I'm skeptical it's as scary as people make it out to be. If it causes you migraines or something, then by all…
  • I get this too! It happens very rarely for me and it's exactly like you describe - air being pushed out of your lungs, not painful but WEIRD. I would be worried and think asthma if it happened for me during running or other cardio, but it's usually during a jumping or twisting move and it never prevents me from breathing…
  • 1) bananas 2) peanut butter 3) turkey breast deli meat 4) EGGS 5) fat free Greek yogurt 6) steel cut oats 7) broccoli and more broccoli 8) Tillamook (very important) medium cheddar 9) bell peppers 10) honey 11) chai (with whole milk yum) 12) green tea (usually jasmine) 13) onions 14) chicken 15) brown rice 16) snap peas…
  • See if you can at least go into a store and try on different brands/styles, then check out http://sierratradingpost.com/ They have "older models" and other clearance type stuff at deep discounts, and you can usually add a 25-35% promo discount on top of that. I paid $45-50 for a pair of shoes regularly priced $100. Their…

  • I've always had chubby arms. (A friend who is very much more overweight than me has BEAUTIFUL slim arms - unfair!) I have a few t-shirts that have a decorative contrasting color around the sleeve, and it's always been tight on my arms. When I put the shirt on I would stretch the sleeve out a ton so my arm could fit in it…
  • Yes, this. I mean, I don't find lifting weights boring the same way watching paint dry is boring, but it's not exciting either. (I've been running for 2 years and I still find it pretty boring, even though I love the results - being able to run farther and faster than I ever have before.) I'm sure many people think that…
  • I love avocados! I love making guacamole and using it on everything possible. Especially eggs. Unfortunately avocados are the worst offender in the list of things that give me a reaction because of OAS (Oral Allergy Syndrome, which is connected to hayfever), so I have to be careful eating them. But I still do. *sheepish*…
  • I think this says it all.
  • I agree with everyone else that you should get a fitting done! I wear Merrell Barefoot shoes - they're sooooo comfy. My second choice was a pair of New Balance but the back was way too high; it would have given me a blister in no time (I have this problem with most shoes). The Merrells have a nice low back that I noticed…
  • I run 3-4 miles usually. What is your regular training pace per mile? with walk intervals, about 11:15; running only, I do 10:45 What's your race pace? uh, I haven't done a race but I would aim for 10:00 (probably wouldn't manage it) What do you consider a "fast" pace? anything under 9:30 feels super fast to me (I can do 1…
  • I drink two types of tea with milk and sugar - chai and earl grey. I've saved them as recipes (but, I mean, I called them "lattes" so you can assume they have milk in them). Sometimes I use whole milk (yummmmm), so I have two versions of the recipe - whole and 1%. I use a tsp of sugar and a few drops of stevia to sweeten.…
  • From someone who gets butterflies in the stomach just reading the WORD "confrontation" - awesome job! I know some people don't understand what the deal is when I've shared little victories like this with them, but it's kinda big. :D
  • I agree with everyone else - you probably need to slow down. Go as slow as you can, because it's a lot easier to speed up later if you have the energy than it is to slow down after you've already exhausted yourself! And running outside is harder than a treadmill. Just give yourself some time to adjust and keep at it!
