  • I quit buying the stuff I binge on and cleared out the pantry so the food bank got a bunch of stuff. Following what Yoovie posted about stocking what I can eat so when the munchies hit I have a ready healthy alternative.
  • Night shifter here and I have a stock of acceptable snacks in the desk in case I end up being there late or forget to bring something (rarely). I always bring my lunch and a snack and that helps avoid the IT office leftovers (usually cookies, brownies, or pizza).
  • Hey former Marine here! Yes, same boat as you (the big guy boat). Drop the weight, feel good, life takes a big dump on ya', weight goes back on, rinse-repeat. I got back on the wagon about 1 month ago (work out steadily) now tackling the eating, and just in time for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and an IT…
  • I've steamed it and then food processor it for a rice substitute. "Faux rice".
  • I use this site to come up with my plans (no guru here). Exercises are listed by area and muscle and each has multiple options for dumbbells, machine, body weight, etc. I take a template and then pick 6 compound exercise. http://www.exrx.net/Lists/WorkoutMenu.html
  • I haven't been to any con in 3 years at least (trying to get all my debt paid off). I used to hit up Gen Con every year that it was in Milwaukee but since the move to Indy I haven't gone. I subscribe to Heavy Metal and get the scoop on cons Simon & crew attend.
  • Not a cosplayer but grew up on RPGs, boardgames, and wargame miniatures. Still doing the miniatures and a few rpg sessions a year. The good thing about being older and wargaming is I can finally afford the good books on obscure battles and biographies; not that my wife gets excited about uniforms of the Seven Years War.
  • l'll be biking to work in a few weeks, once the "wintery mix" garbage is over with. It's only 5 miles but a couple of hills I really don't like so it gives me a good bit of exercise on top of my daily routines.
  • I'm interested to hear what others say on this. I just started wearing gloves and that was only because my tricep pull down rope is that really rough plastic type rope and my hands were getting torn up.
  • I've been on 500mg/day for almost 2 months now. So far I haven't experienced any stomach or bathroom issues. A friend is on a much higher dose and did experience the bathroom side effects. Right now, I put my weight loss down to eating right and exercising. I did the same plan as I'm doing now and lost weight at the same…
  • I would eat badly when stressed or storing up too much anger; I just wasn't in the mood to make something that is healthy when the quick and tasty is available and they take debit cards. Now that I've been working out steadily and able to put some of that energy to the weights or run it helps. One thing I grab to fight off…
  • Hi everyone! I'm a history buff and wargamer currently dabbling in the early medieval period among others. The Baltic Crusades and eastern Germany/Poland/Hungary are where I try to focus. Long time RPGer and fan of the local Ren Faire (I'm near Milwaukee) but I don't have the performance gene so I go as a visitor. Lots of…
  • Sorry to necropost on this. We do the pot luck deal when gaming where the host usually makes the main dish and we all bring something. Since we're doing it during the day it's usually a lunch. What I've done is offer up fruits, veggies, and substitute items (turkey sloppy joes for example). I'll have chips but baked or…
  • Hi! New to the group also, just started on MFP a few weeks ago. Long time gamer, started with D&D as a lad (thought hit dice = hit points, boy were purple worms easy!). Did the PC games now into my true love, minis, with a smidge of RPG'ing on the side. Old age and cube work is catching up and I'm fending off the "typical…

  • As others have said, 10 years old is old enough to know better. Something to do, and I've done, is say loud enough for the parent to hear, "Aren't you a well behaved child". The look on the mom's face was priceless, and I got a snicker from the 60+ year old lady behind me. When my kid was in the blurting stage I've had to…
  • Like others I also was dieting, and doing some cardio so not completely only weights, but I noticed more of a change with weights (heavy) + cardio than cardio alone. I use weights for squats but was doing body weight or dumbbells for lunges. My legs didn't bulk up if that's what you mean, but also my goal wasn't to get…
  • My only one is from 1987, back in the fun days of the Corps.
  • I've found my legs slimmed down more with weight training (squats especially) than just cardio. I've always had big quads, even when I was really skinny and in track (I had to buy pants the next waist size up just to fit my legs). Now the rest of me has outgrown my legs.
  • Another snowbound midwesterner! Howdy. This winter has been the worse, not enough snow down here (by Milwaukee) to go out and do the fun winter stuff (and get some exercise) but enough to keep from doing the non-snow stuff.
  • I have the Bowflex click set and they work better than I thought they would. They aren't rickety or loose. I think I paid $180 (this was a couple of years ago) but they were a floor model at the fitness store where I was getting other equipment. Each goes from 5-52.5lbs. They did throw in the special "official Bowflex"…
