Weight Lifting Gloves

A few weeks ago I started lifting more and doing cardio less. I started noticing that my palms were getting rough, where the fingers meet the palm of the hand. Got some weight lifting gloves and have been using them for the last few days and today my hands just hurt. While lifting, they don't bother me but all day long, afterwards, my hands have just hurt. I don't want calluses! Any suggestions?

I'm interested to hear what others say on this. I just started wearing gloves and that was only because my tricep pull down rope is that really rough plastic type rope and my hands were getting torn up.

The calluses are going to form to some extent. I like to use gloves for grip.

Maybe it is the type of gloves that you have? I have been using gloves for lifting for a couple of years now and have avoided callouses all together. I take the gloves off immediately when finished with my workout and wash my hands to avoid irritation. I used to have a real issue with the barbell pinching the skin where the fingers meet the hands prior to wearing gloves, especially during deadlifts, but not anymore.

I have always used gloves even when I started lifting for the first time. I also like the ones with the straps that wrap around my wrist a few times. I just feel more secure with those when doing heavy lifting that invloves working the wrist.

Mine were doing this as well. Trainer suggested a few things...None worked. This may sound completely crazy but a girl in the locker room told me to put the tiniest bit of Vaseline (just do not go crazy bc will soak through)under a band aid in the spots where it was hurting to prevent callouses. She said after she started doing this her hands no longer hurt.

I tried it next day....It worked.
