  • Another easy fibre filler is chicknuts. I make my own every so often and they are very high in fibre and a good source of protein and an easy snack you can eat whenever you want. Just put a couple of cans of well drained and rinsed chickpeas into a bowl, add some seasoning (anything really, even just a peri peri or cajun…
  • Oh and yeah you will find a lot of foods on MFP don't state that they contain fibre in their macros but the foods do contain fibre so don't worry too much if you don't meet your fibre macro. I just try to eat as much fibre as I can without really worrying about it too often unless I need to - then I pop open the beans...
  • beans and lentils. High in protein and high in fibre. I sometimes get a can of four/five bean mix and eat that with a can of tuna on the side. If you want to fancy it up drain them and add some vegetables or a can of tuna and mix it up like a salad. That one 400g can of beans (less when drained) gives me about 15-20g of…

  • You didn't gain that sort of weight in one day and unfortunately it won't be lost in one day either...
  • I make cookies for breakfast. They are primarily banana, apple sauce, peanut butter substitutes although I do use some sugar and butter. I add all sorts of healthy goodies to them and flavour them differently every time by adding chocolate, sultanas, white choc, coconut, mango etc. I once shared the base recipe on here but…
  • Fresh veg is always the best snack and healthy too - cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes etc. The fibre helps you feel full too. Beef jerky is one of my other favourite simple snacks that hasn't been mentioned in this thread and is mostly protein. It also contains lots of iron and zinc but also a lot of salt so don't go too hard…
  • Yep popcorn is actually an awesome snack. I have some little bags here that actually make me feel like I have eaten something that amount to 50kcals a pop. They taste great and also contain a little fibre which is a bonus. Other great snack ideas that I tend to enjoy are beef jerky, muesli bars or some plain boring (but…
  • And yes, I know technically that means I ate exactly the right amount of calories but it never works out that nicely - no matter how good your counting is...
  • That is pretty impressive. I don't think I have ever done that, I have come close though. I remember hitting my macro's spot on once, just carbs, protein and fats but I thought that was awesome.
  • Yes - 8 glasses of water is a myth. You should as a previous poster said consume around 2L of fluid per day. Obviously water is a pretty healthy option but you can mix it up a little - most fluids other than water are empty calories though...
  • So many programs out there to try if you are bulking - don't try to reinvent the wheel, do some research and follow someone else's program. My favourite is Jim Stoppani's shortcut to size. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/docs/2011/shortcut-to-size-e-book.pdf
  • The lower calorie bars that aren't loaded with sugar or contain artificial sweetners contain sugar alcohols which for me are the lesser of three evils. Your choices in protein bars are basically 1. sugar (somewhat natural but higher in calories and too much sugar isn't good for you) 2. sugar alcohols 3. artificial…
  • Good in theory but you have to want to do something about it in the first place. Strange when you think that 5-10 minutes in front of the computer can actually aid you in losing weight! Everyone just assumes that the longer you spend on your bum in front of the computer the fatter you will get...
  • There are heaps of them but most of them are loaded with artificial sweetener and those that aren't are full of all sorts of other things, not that I am saying I don't consume the odd one myself though. You can make them yourself too...
  • My wife has a similar pain from time to time although I think yours sounds more like a contact problem between the leg and the hip. Not sure if these will help but she stretches that part by standing straight, lifts one leg slightly, bending that leg at the knee (leg on the floor is straight) and then continues to lift and…
  • I cooked this tonight. It was delicious! I made a few changes, some by necessity. I couldn't get any roasted tomatoes in a can (who knows they probably have them somewhere but Aldi didn't have any) so I added a big fleshy hot chilli. I used chicken stock instead of water and I added an extra half a cup of quinoa and…
  • This does sound pretty delicious. I have been looking for tasty ways to get more quinoa into my diet and I think this sounds pretty good. I think this is one I will cook up this weekend!
  • Well it isn't 64 grams in this case. This is a simple math problem. If 1/3 cup = 30g then 1 cup = 90g Therefore 1/2 a cup = 45g When I bake I follow a recipe but nowadays every cup of something I add I weigh so I know how many grams something is. Everything has a different density. If you don't have a scale google is your…
  • I am not sure what exactly you want help with but the menu looks pretty good to me. Should be getting enough of everything with that sort of menu but you should mix it up a little, you don't want to get bored eating the same thing all the time and decide you feel like a big bag of potato chips to mix it up.
  • It depends on what you are doing but I wouldn't be substituting something artificial for the real thing to try and cut back on a few healthy calories. I often substitute about half the butter for some yoghurt or peanut butter in cookies or cakes to reduce the calories without sacrificing the taste.
  • You can customise your goals. I customise all of mine and use another calculator like that at scoobysworkshop to determine my TDEE.
  • My jerky is made and has been somewhat consumed already! Two thumbs up! I went to the butcher and got 2kg of round steak which turned out to be about 1.6kg once it was trimmed of all fat. I froze this and then cut it up into pieces that were roughly 3-5mm thick. I made up two marinades based on the research I did and each…
  • There are a lot of scientists still studying this stuff, hence the new products that keep getting released and trialled. There are currently 5 artificial sweeteners approved by the FDA. As I have said it hasn't even been 50 years since aspartame was first introduced to the market, even less for the others and the market is…
  • I too like the previous posters have stated make a big batch of something and then put it into pal while it cools. I figure out based on the calories generally how many serves it will make and only rarely have I found that I needed that one extra serve or I had one too many serves estimated. I either rough scoop it out…
  • There definitely is a difference in how much the package says is in a scoop and how much is in a scoop. I have used many and generally there is a few grams difference, typically I have found over estimating the size of the scoop, i.e. if it says 30g it is probably only 25g. The biggest offender I have come across was the…
  • I think the jury is still out, they are new products and how can they say if it doesn't cause any long term effects, on yourself or your progeny. Aspartame has only been around for about 50 years... Am I the only one though that finds it strange that in today's day and age we have to manufacture an artificial product that…
  • Your story reminds me of a friend of mine, she has put on so much weight in the last few years and she is not happy but she refuses to do anything about it and doesn't see her weight as a part of the problem. It pains me to see her like this but I can't help her if she doesn't want to be helped. I am glad you have decided…
