I told a menopausal friend last week while we were out for dinner with a larger group about my weight loss on lchf, and how another friend had inspired me with her losses. She was all interested, but said, "Aren't you worried about heart disease?" So I told her my triglycerides had dropped (to 44! down from 124 in 2010)…

welcome back! kcko!

It says I am an Adventurer (ISFP-T)-- which makes me think I answered wrong! ;) edit: then I looked for my animal, lol. A deer. Strengths: Good listener, appreciates aesthetics and beauty. Weaknesses: Tends to keep thoughts and feelings private, not good at long term planning. Spot on! thanks @RalfLott

I am also sorry about your losses. You need to grieve in your own time in your own way. Did you read this article from a few weeks back? I live in Japan and have see Jizo statues at temples -- they seem to soothe the soul! Maybe you just need to find your own way.…

Hi, I am maintaining on LCHF now, after losing 11kg over about a year, which was pretty slow by most people's standards. I have my macros set for keto, but I often eat more carbs than the daily allotment--though very seldom more than 100 grams in a day. and I don't worry too much about it. If I gain a bit, then I am more…

For me it's now 2 glasses of wine. Beyond that I am dancing on the ceiling. Though the exercise helps!

Hope you heal well!

Thanks for this! I listened while cooking keto stuff this morning for the week. I'm not unhappy with his style, but yeah, lots of ums and uhs. He's a doc first, vj second! It's the content that I like.

Yeah, it is a different vibe. But good information. And 2 kewl dudes! love that podcast.

I have been using the Otsuka resistant starch powder this week that I posted about before Xmas -- one sachet in green tea, once a day, with lunch. It seems to be filling out my digestive track, ifyaknowwhatimean... I don't test my BG, so don't have any data, but it feels good to me. I don't get sleepier or have the usual…

Thank you, I have just x-posted a link on www.ketogenicforums.com too. :)

There is soon to be a new board for like-minded folks: www.ketogenicforums.com It starts up on Jan. 1st, or if you are on 2KetoDudes on facebook, you can ask the admins for an early invite. Looks promising.

@MyriiStorm No, I don't do any testing--I don't have diabetes and don't know how to get a monitor here in Japan, I haven't found them except online, for lots of yen. I also am not usually in ketosis. So yesterday, after posting, I soon had to visit the loo... felt rather cleaned out after that, if you know whut i mean. I…

Here is my avatar pic, you can see how long it took me to lose 11 kg (=25lbs or so)... I was 57 and post menopausal. I have kept it off for 2 years, and eat lchf now to keep feeling good.

Ditto the above foods for me, few potatoes and rice. I have my version of this with flaxmeal included for those sluggish days  http://www.djfoodie.com/Chia-Fauxtmeal

Have you seen this keto calculator? http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/ It can be adjusted for your macros and age, etc.

I just this morning listened to the podcast version of Dr. Rhonda Patrick's interview with Valter Longo on his fasting mimicking diet, IF and various related topics. It is long, but worth a listen if you don't mind science... I don't think he advocated keto for all, but says it is fine, too.…

From January 2017, cohosts will be Leah Williamson from Brisbane, Australia and Kara Halderman from Austin, TX. Check out the backlist of podcasts here: http://www.lowcarbconversations.com/

Welcome back! Read your profile and wow, glad you were able to survive. great success. Kcko!

I have found some lc flour mixes at iherb.com -- they ship worldwide and since I live in Japan, that helps. The shipping company Sagawa will deliver free if the order is over $40! works for me.

I read it on my Kindle Prime library -- it is a bit sciencey but well worth reading. He explains much about how insulin works, and debunks bad science, if I recall. Been about 6 months since I read it. Liked his dry sense of humor that pokes through here and there.

I think it depends on the body... if you continue losing with that intake, it is ok for you. If you stall, maybe cut back?
-
No. I live in Japan, have no meter. Not diabetic so no medical reason to get one. Have thought about it, but it is too much trouble and expense to do. I am lchf, maintaining weight and my blood markers have all improved. If that changes, I will probably start testing.

Add in some ground flax, maybe? Have been meaning to try that for the same reason -- too eggy! I prefer the Caveman Keto's almond buns or the flax ones. Or a mix of both! http://cavemanketo.com/faux-bread-quest-flax-buns/

Did you see this post in the Launchpad? It is an overview with links http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10348436/enhancing-mfp-displays-for-low-carb#latest I think the free version of MFP only does percentages. Tweak it till it suits you?

i am 2 years in and still struggle some days... keep calm and keto on!

You are on the right track! Keto level is 20 carbs or less per day, while LCHF is up to about 80-100 for most folks. It depends on your own body's insulin resistance as to how many you can tolerate. To stay in ketosis, it is usually 20 carbs or less, though. At the top of the group, there is a structured library of all our…
