There was a recent study that found that women with PCOS/IR have lower BMR's: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18678372 The effects of PCOS seem to be different for everyone, but this study really rang true for me. If I am eating carbs then I have to go REALLY low to lose weight -- if I eat to my MPF calorie limit…

It may be a little late to respond to this, as you are probably deeply immersed in studying, but for what it's worth I took the CA bar last year and passed (thank heaven!). I agree with the above poster -- treat it like a job and grind it out. I would add that planning ahead as much as possible will make your life easier.…

I took D-Chiro for about three months, which may or may not be long enough to see all of the positive results that have been attributed to it. (I have heard it said that you need to take it for about 4 months before it reaches full effectiveness. My experience with it was not great. It really made me feel weird -- sort of…

Thank you for posting about this study. The reduced BMR rings true for me. I have PCOS & IR & I either have to cut carbs or drop my calorie intake WAY down from the suggested before I see results -- more than the 200 or so suggested by the study. I find information like this affirming. As a rule, if you dare to suggest…

I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like you have had a really rough couple of years. It's great that you are taking charge of your life and working to do something positive for yourself. There are a lot of great people on here who will be able to help support you on your journey. Best of luck!

I have PCOS as well. I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. Weight loss w/ PCOS is a major pain, & I think it is hard for people who don't have the disorder to understand. I'm always looking to make more friends on here who have PCOS. Sent you a FR, and anyone please feel free to add me!!

Welcome! & Good Luck!

So many interesting posts! For those who insist CICO is working for me, I will attempt to clarify: I am not saying that CICO does not work at all. Clearly, if you do not eat anything, you will lose weight (and, eventually, die). My problem with CICO is that it does not work 'as advertised.' Further, and even more…

Good luck! I think it's a great sign that you are laying the groundwork early!

I appreciate the responses. I am going to have to look into doing more strength training and tweaking the diet. Eventually I have to find something that works. Also, saying CICO is working for me is a bit of a stretch. If I ate to my recommended calorie limit it would take me less than a week to gain back every ounce of…

Thanks for all the great responses. I will lose the mandarins! I remember reading that certain types of oranges were okay & so I tried to slip them in. Foolish! Thank you so much for pointing that out. My body is super sensitive to carbs/sugar. I know everyone who has PCOS is different, but for me the carb thing is a…

I also had major stomach issues from it. Couldn't handle it.

I'm up almost 3.8 lbs from the first week low. I expected some bounce back, b/c you tend to lose water weight the first week. But, four pounds is more than my average. Also, the consistency of the gain -- 1/2 lb here and two days later another 1/2 lb over the span of a week, concerns me. I can gain weight if I eat carbs --…

Thank you for the response. If portion size is unclear, I use a food scale. If I don't have access to one, I estimate & then add 1.5 oz.
