  • No, it's various things but there seems to always be cookies to go along with it! Today was Chick Fil A.
  • Reminds me of this great Michael Pollan quote: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." (source: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/28/magazine/28nutritionism.t.html?pagewanted=all) Eating well isn't difficult, but it is construed to be near impossible, something you need books and supplements and memberships to do right,…
  • My husband and I were in the bathroom together last week and I noticed how pink he is and how yellow I am! I've been eating lots veggies, including spinach and carrots, which are both rich in vitamin A. Let's see how my carrot tan looks on the beach!
  • I like so many vegetables now that I didn't eat even a year ago. Carrots, especially roasted! Brussels sprouts too. Cooked leafy greens (sauteed spinach or collard greens). I used to hate vinegar 5 years ago (I remember getting some bruschetta that was heavy on the balsamic and it was inedible to me) and now I used…
  • That's great! I told myself when I started I wasn't going to stress over exercise because I don't enjoy it. I lost 7 lbs the first month. Now I am incorporating exercise to help my endurance and am losing at the same steady rate.
  • It probably depends on what your fitness level was prior to starting the shred. At the beginning of Level 1 my quads and calves were SO SORE. Stairs were torture. But, I wasn't doing any exercise before the shred, so it was a shock to my system. On Level 2, my shoulder and back were sore as we worked those more. Just make…
  • I'm so glad I've weaned myself from mochas to black coffee. It took a couple years, but it is SO much better for me. I remember once in college I got a white chocolate raspberry breve, where 'breve' meant it was made with half and half. Can you imagine?! Ugh.
  • I love baking, and used to bake cookies, cupcakes or brownies once or twice a week. I would eat a ton of batter/dough and then a couple treats when they were done. It wasn't unusual for me to have a stomach ache afterwards. Also used to do homemade pizza at pretty regularly last year...'personal' size 12 inch pizzas. I…
  • My go to breakfast lately: 1 cup frozen tropical fruit mix 1/2 frozen banana 2 tbsp chia seeds 1 cup skim milk 1 cup spinach That'd be 14g of protein there. Sometimes I add plain greek yogurt for a little more.
  • Breakfast (250-300 calories) Smoothie with banana, spinach, PB2 or other frozen fruit, chia seeds and skim or almond milk (playing with this...cows milk has protein, which I like) Lunch (300-400 calories) I make soup once a week and take it into work. Taco soup, potato soup, broccoli soup, minestrone, lentil soup, black…
  • Did Level 3 day 2 yesterday. This level is definitely more strength-focused than the other ones!
  • YES! Whine about not liking vegetables and fruit.
  • That's a great program! The extra incentive is cherry on top of the cardio pie!
  • http://www.skinnytaste.com/ has some really great meal ideas! Here are some that are in heavy rotation at my house: -burrito bowls (cilantro lime rice, chicken, black beans, salsa) -chicken enchiladas (go light on the cheese and you get lots of leftovers!) -green salads -chicken stir fry (look for the bags of frozen stir…
  • This winter I've been really into Earl Grey with lemon and honey. Mmm!
  • I find the best fix for me is a couple squares dark chocolate! It usually comes in at less than 150 cals and satisfies that craving way better than diet chocolate foods (chocolate yogurt, I'm looking at you). I've also done some good chocolate banana smoothies (just add cocoa powder!).
  • Hearty soups - minestrone, lentil, taco, etc. Make a batch every weekend to take for lunch. Mexican! If you go light on the cheese and heavy on the chicken, enchiladas, burritos, etc, can all be really healthy but tasty dinners.
  • I found Week 1 on Youtube and did it last night! It was a struggle and I couldn't do 100% but I think I can get there. Especially once I saw the circuits all the way through.
  • I second fiber being awesome! This year I've been doing green smoothies for breakfast with banana, PB2, spinach and chia seeds and I am continually impressed that they keep me full for 5 hours. Even whole grain cereal (and it's stupid chicory root fiber additive) didn't do that for me. I'm always preaching fiber to my…
  • I am a excellent home baker, which is usually at odds with losing weight, but one thing that is a boon is I no longer have a taste for ANY boxed/store bought sweets. They just aren't worth it. I did buy 3 boxes of GS cookies last year (PBP, Caramel DeLites and Thin Mints) only to find them *not worth it*.
  • My rotation: green salad with chicken, chicken fajitas, chicken burrito bowls (cilantro lime rice, black beans, chicken, salsa...can be made in advance and assembled at dinner time), taco soup, minestrone, lentil soup, black bean and salsa soup... Soups I make on Sunday and eat all week for lunch. Filling, satisfying and…
  • 6 lbs down, good job! I'm 26 and looking to lose the 20lbs I've gained since moving to Indiana before I move to Colorado in June. I'm not much of an exerciser but I love cooking and finding healthy meals I love to eat. First thing to go was weeknight drinking and I think that has helped a ton in meeting my goals so far.…
  • Beans and lentils are an awesome source of fiber. They add up really quickly! I used to eat lots of Kashi / Fiber One bars, but my body really don't enjoy the chicory root fiber they add. I find foods with naturally occurring fiber don't wreak so much gastric havoc. Whole grain bread, an apple and peanut butter has the…
  • "But I love cooking and baking!" Which is true. I used to bake things once or twice a week and take them in to work, eating my fair share of batter and treats. That hobby is not only invoked when there is an occasion (birthdays, etc). As for cooking, finding tasty healthful meals I want to make over and over again is kind…
  • I've been thinking about this all week. It won't be pretty. But I've been doing great all week, so I'll just get right back on the horse Monday.
  • I make soup every weekend to take for lunch during the week. I try to mix it up between creamy soups (immersion blender for the win!) and more textured ones. My favorites this winter are this black bean and salsa soup (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/black-bean-and-salsa-soup/) and taco soup: 1lb - ground beef (lean lean…

  • I was reflecting on the whole diet convenience food thing today. One of my coworkers use MFP and his motto is "if it doesn't have a barcode, I don't eat it." I love baking and cooking and am trying to channel those energies into healthier meals. I make a batch of soup every weekend to take for lunch and cook dinner every…
