  • Great! I love your sense of humor!
  • I stepped on the scale when I joined MFP and weighed LESS than I thought I would. You might think this would be good news - and on one level it was - but it made me realize that my biggest problem was that I had lost so much muscle tone through my sedentary lifestyle.
  • Marilyn - Though nighttime eating is not my particular downfall, as you know, I just am getting back on board after a 3 week "hiatus". It feels so good. This is the first time I've been able to catch myself so quickly. Usually it has taken months because I hate the feeling of having let myself down - again - - and, as my…
  • I am sooo grateful that all is cool at my Mom's house and I'm able to be back at home where I have some supports that are really important to me... my scale and my gym club.
  • Wonderful!!!!
  • Thanks for the wisdom, Kathy, Jean and Redzz. I know you are right and at least I'm recording today and on track so far. One of the difficulties here is that I have no idea if Mom's scale correlates with my own and that's a tool I find essential - both in staying real and in feeling more relaxed about the nature of weight…
  • Grateful to be able to spend another day with my pain-in-the-you-know-where mom. Talk about a control freak! But also - talk about a loving spirit and positive attitude! Hope I can live up to her example if I make it to that exalted age.
  • Not my best coupla days. I was either traveling which entailed all restaurant meals with friends or just plain eating too much while staying with Mom (and now stuck here since there's a blizzard going on in RI). These are lo-o-o-o-ong days. :) Anyway - the re-motivator in my corner is that last week I was able to go down a…
  • All our friends here are rooting for you!!
  • OK. Will do. I imagine some other folks here might be flirting with diabetes.
  • ...and here's some happy news that showed up in my husband's email recently: http://www.diabetes.org/research-and-practice/patient-access-to-research/ah-nuts-pistachios-may.html
  • Ha! Yes - that would be me above. Today I was considering my goal weight of 145 and thought I'd remind myself of the recs. For a 5'4" 66 yr. old female THIS was what the calculator came up with: Based on the Robinson formula (1983), your ideal weight is 123.0 lbs Based on the Miller formula (1983), your ideal weight is…
  • Well, here I am at Mom's since last Thursday and discovered she does have a digital scale. I weighed in at 161 which is just not possible --- a 3.8 loss from last Tuesday's weigh in, but I don't think I've been calculating my food correctly. I feel kind of weak. And I hope I haven't lost that much. I want to be losing fat…
  • Another doctor experience... My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer 6 years ago. After a prostatectomy and radiation, he went to a highly recommended cancer doctor. I didn't like him. He seemed bored, glib and too busy. Meanwhile, just on general principle with something that serious, we went to see a prostate…
  • To get motivated I read success stories. There are so many people who have lost 100 lbs and more. I also started my log in streak at least two weeks before I was able to make any serious changes in the way I was eating. Getting in the habit of that was a small change that has paid off. Then there's some interesting…
  • And... gratitude for this group. On my first of 11 days with Mom she brought out Lemon Pie at lunch!!!!! Thanks to y'all I didn't need to think twice before saying No Thanks. xxx
  • Greetings mangotango. I am grateful that you followed the breadcrumbs to the wonderful group here. It is the best!
  • I agree with all of you but thought I would throw in two cents about our experience. My husband was able to control his diabetes with diet, exercise and weight loss for several years. His doc was amazed and said he had never actually seen someone succeed at changing their behaviors enough to avoid medication. I think docs…
  • I'll second retirehappy in saying that weight loss is more difficult when you can't exercise, but I think that practicing maintaining your weight is just as important as losing it.
  • Thanks for posting this. It's interesting to speculate on what changes might be in the offing with MFP being acquired by a clothing company whose emphasis is on athletes. Seems like it'll be broadening their customer base immeasurably but I can't quite see how MFP will benefit. I'm sure it will - but I don't quite see how.…
  • Cris - After I went through the change, I said to my DH - Honey, it's official, I can't get pregnant. And he famously answered, Well, we can keep trying!
  • Joni - good point! I'm going to compare after the next weigh in. Chris - Maybe you're pregnant. :p
  • Talk about Grumpy, Chris! I had to weigh in for the 12-week weight loss and fitness campaign at my gym last night and was 8 POUNDS higher than the nudie-cutie, post-pee, AM weight I log on MFP. Even though I knew why, I felt mildly depressed last night. Fortunately the scale this morning told a different story - so - ok…
  • Chris - Illness can cause a rise in blood sugar. Not to worry!
  • Happy to report a 1.8 lb loss this week.
  • I'm off tomorrow to spend 11 days with my Mom. This will be a challenge since she has no scale and her daily routine includes cookies and Haagen Daz. In the past I've tended to drift in that direction when I'm there. HOWEVER! Now that I've got my weight lifting routine going at the gym (which I love love love), I found a…
  • Is there a weekly weigh in today on top of Feb Challenge?
  • Now that I'm truly on board, I am grateful every day to my hubbo for making it possible for me to go to my new gym.
