  • There is also a group - Pregnancy June 2011 here :) I highly recommend joining since it gets a fair amount of traffic and its a great way to get support for everything during your pregnancy.
  • If they aren't using a ton of oil and sauce, its actually not a bad choice at all. One of the places I've been too used very little and it ended up being healthier than plenty of meals we have at home! That said, I personally tend to like having cheat days every once in a while. Sometimes you need to just have what sounds…

  • For me, WW was just too difficult to deal with. I hated having to constantly calculate my own points from nutrition info because the brands I used were never in their books. The program just seemed so much more complicated than tracking calories. It also didn't help me eat healthier. I now try to keep not only my calories…
  • I completely agree with this--although I only lost 40 lbs. I had no problems with them until I added an additional medication that also caused loose stools and stomach cramping and so I had to stop them. My doctor reports having many patients that have had great success with them. My major suggestion is to use them to…

  • My friends wonder about us, but we don't always buy the newest and greatest. And I generally refuse to buy music online because I still burn cds to listen to them! We also still haven't bought a flat screen tv. And my cell phone generally just makes phone calls and sends text messages. Me have an iPod touch so my husband…
  • For my body, getting up and going for a walk, even a mild and short-ish one seems to help me lose weight. I can eat the right amount of food and not lose much but getting out and walking does seem to help, particularly in the morning. I assume that it helps get my metabolism going. And an hour's walk is 150+ calories and…
  • Can you cut out the milk? Or cut down? If you use just a tablespoon of milk in it, its really low calorie [there is only 90 calories in a cup of skim milk and only a tablespoon for each tea would equal under 30 calories for 4 cups.] Plain tea has 5 or less calories a serving, so I drink a lot of that and save tea with milk…
  • It depends on several things. If you are active, that definitely seems reasonable. I was at 325 several years ago and moderately active and was eating 1800-1900 [on a different program than MFP] and I lost weight between 1-2lbs each week. I am now at 1550 calories at 280lbs [which MFP recommended] and it seems to be…

  • Yay! Congrats! I was so excited when I tried on last year's shorts and they kept falling down as I was walking. Well, I was excited when I got home and changed into something that didn't fall down. I went out today and bought a pair of smaller ones! Smaller clothing is definitely the biggest motivator for me.

  • It partially got easier for me, and actually cutting back on my protein helped a lot. Whole grains and veggies were much more filling for the amount of calories. Beans have plenty of protein for a meal but are much more filling than a small piece of chicken, which has been enough to make me feel satisfied most days. Also,…
  • I definitely need days where I don't log and I just eat what seems good, within reason. Usually on those days I make sure I have two good low-calorie meals, exercise and have one meal where I just enjoy whatever sounds good. On 1500 calories a day it would be hard to go and enjoy myself at a steakhouse, but I don't want to…

  • I definitely have to eat. When I wake up I am feel extremely hungry and I don't function to well until I have breakfast. I can manage if I don't need to be anywhere and loaf in bed, but if I need to get up and go, breakfast is necessary within 30 minutes of getting up. If I can manage having two small meals in the morning…
  • I definitely agree that what you takes depends on if you have a campstove & cooking pit. My family normally brings oatmeal, granola bars, veggies [carrots, celery, broccoli and snow peas hold up well in a cooler but I've had problems with lettuces], bread, peanut butter, nuts, crackers, eggs, etc. We definitely try for…

  • I definitely think that you should get a better idea of why your doctor doesn't want to put you any medication for your thyroid, and probably a second opinion to see if this is generally accepted practice or not. Also, my brother is on a raw food diet and doesn't have to worry about what he eats because he exercises like…
  • I sometimes see as much as a 5-6 lb variability. I really wish I knew where it all was coming from/going to!
  • Walking and gentle swimming for me! I get horribly bored at the gym. Previously I have used various dvds such as yoga, pilates, general exercise ones when I had more space in my living room to move around. Oh, and I do use the Wii Fit to add in extra exercise. I don't tend to count it, but it helps add a bit of fun…
  • It definitely depends on your criteria for a drink. If you really like foam, you can buy an espresso machine with one or buy a separate frother. If you need sweetener than purchasing Starbucks' sugar free syrups or using Splenda is an option. Do you need espresso shots or just coffee dressed up? I personally like to drink…
  • I always count tea since I drink a ton of it and I'm a perfectly hydrated person. Caffeine only works as a diuretic in large quantities in people who are not used to it--your body quickly becomes used to it and adjusts for it. Also, most teas have only 1/4-1/2 the caffeine as coffee and many people get a lot of their water…
  • There are 3500 calories in a pound, so 500 is only 1/7 of one, or a little over two ounces. I definitely need days where I just go and eat what I would like. Its hard to eat so much in one meal that it really puts you back!
  • Our relationship seems to be the opposite of many others--he doesn't care what weight I am unless I magically became very thin, but I would be a bit less attracted to him if he gained much weight! That said, I really don't think that either of us would extremely turned off, just less attracted than we were when the other…
  • As long as I keep my fiber intake up! If I slip up for a few days, it starts up again :( I drink a ton of water but I do take pretty big bites and I don't chew quite as well as I should... Luckily, my husband and my dog have noisy tummies too, so I fit right in!
  • I much prefer to weight myself each day for the reasons people have mentioned---your weight can fluctuate massively from day to day. This way, I know if its a fluke instead of being horribly depressed on "weight-in day." I don't quite see how weighing only once a week removes this issue. When I was doing WW, I frequently…
  • I want to jump in and point out that studies do show a correlation between diet soda intake and higher weight & diabetes. There is not causation given. That said, I know from personal experience that I have issues when I drink diet soda on an empty stomach. I would think this has to do with the fact that the body begins to…
  • I am finally officially joining after lurking about for the last month. The hubby and I have finally decided that we would like to start TTC as soon as I can get my weight down some more. It is so strange to go from a couple months ago just thinking that we would probably like to have children to realizing that soon is…
  • I have never, ever had a doctor that wouldn't count it as water as long as it wasn't sweetened. A.) It has very little caffeine [about 25mg for a 6-8oz cup] B.) Your body quickly gets used to the very mild diuretic effect and you will have no harm unless you are popping caffeine pills C.) Its all water. D.) I get about 90%…
  • I've been reading pregnancy books like the ****ens lately, and all of them say that you can't really do much about them once they are there, other than wait until they go away [which can be a long time, unfortunately.] Apparently, in actual trials, most of the "miracle creams" don't help much, and a lot of the anecdotal…
  • We have made very good fish in the microwave. Wrap it in microwavable wax paper with seasonings [I particularly like lemon slices, garlic and rosemary] and microwave until done [two 4oz fillets usually takes just 6 min in our microwave.] We also make rice and baked potatoes in the microwave. Recipes abound in the internet…
  • At Chipotle, you can also get a bowl, which will cut our the approximately 180 calories that come from a tortilla, if you want. You can add lettuce then. Its quite tasty that way.
  • MFP's automatic settings are low because unlike calories, its considered not a limit [like calories] but a minimum to try to get [like vitamins.] But you are right on the 25 grams being the recommended minimum, and getting 25-35 grams per day is the suggested target to aim for.

  • I did their free trial a couple months ago, and I certainly didn't hate it, but it was frustrating how limited their database was. So few of the restaurants I go to had numbers, so I was left guessing frequently. And literally none of the foods I had in my cabinet were listed. We shop mostly at Trader Joes and from what I…
