It's this pettiness that's been going through my mind a lot lately - do you include a glass of tea into the "minimum 8 glasses of water daily" or do you count only water at that matter? Is there any difference between water and flavored, caffeined water that tea is when it comes to hydrating your body? Thanks everyone for answers.

Caffeine and alcohol both dehydrate you - so I wouldn't count anything with caffeine or alcohol in as part of your "water".

I always count tea since I drink a ton of it and I'm a perfectly hydrated person. Caffeine only works as a diuretic in large quantities in people who are not used to it--your body quickly becomes used to it and adjusts for it. Also, most teas have only 1/4-1/2 the caffeine as coffee and many people get a lot of their water from coffee without a problem. And look at the Japanese. They drink quite a bit of tea and are very healthy.

There are lots of antioxidants in tea, so I try to drink as much fresh tea as I can. And it tastes great--I definitely look forward to it and its a nice treat that doesn't involve calories!

Green tea is not enough of a diuretic to adversely affect hydration so I always count it. Not sure about other teas/beverages, though.

i log a black cup of tea in my foods- it's 10 cals! i also log diet coke and that stuff in foods, because although there are no cals, there's plenty of sodium.
the only thing that gets counted as water is water. i think i should be drinking 8 cups of water, not 8 cups of fluid.
