  • JEFIT. I use it to track my strength workouts. I don't know if it's the best, but it works and makes it so I don't have to carry around a notebook or clipboard at the gym.
  • Also, if you are just running or speed walking consider visiting the Katy Mills Mall as soon as it opens. Air conditioning is a blessed comfort. I measured it with my phone GPS once, and I think it was almost a mile to do a full loop around the entire mall (inside).
  • I just moved away from Katy, so I know what you're talking about with the heat. The best solution I found was to work out in early morning or late at night. It's still hot and muggy as hell, but you don't have direct sunlight on you. The other important thing that helped tremendously was to stop caring that it was hot. I…
  • I'm late to the discussion, and I'm sure someone has already said it, but you only got your son's interpretation of what the health teacher said. Two people can listen to, watch, or read the same exact presentation, but come away with totally different understandings and and perspectives of the source material. Before you…
  • That makes total sense, because when I was overeating all that time I was only targeting to carry the fat on my love handles. It worked too. *tongue planted firmly in cheek*
  • Thanks. I wasn't trying to do a full workout. I just wanted to test out the setup, especially with the HRM. I was mostly surprised at the calorie count the algorithm gave me because I'm fairly fit (very for my size). I usually lift heavy and don't do much cardio, but have recently moved back to a state that has mountains,…
  • Mag trainer with my road bike. Intervals with variable resistance through changing my gears. 160 BPM average isn't necessarily moderate, though. If it is it's on the high side of moderate.
  • It's interesting to hear your reaction to their comments. I know it can be hurtful to hear other people make observations about us, especially when we are already down on ourselves about the attribute they describe. What's interesting to me is that I read posts in the success stories forum all the time about nobody…
  • 5x5 programs are great for muscle gain and total body strength because of all the total body lifts they employ. As quiksylver296 said, you'll still need to eat at a deficit to lose weight, the side effect of which is halted gains in the weight room. If you're not an experienced lifter you'll experience those fabulous noob…
  • A video would be helpful for a more accurate assessment, but here are some general tips for squatting: * Make sure you are keeping your heels planted to the floor throughout the squat motion. People have a tendency to shift their weight to the balls of the feet, which puts more pressure on the front of your thighs. * Try…
  • You have to search for an entry option for the food that will allow you to change the portion unit of measure to grams. For example, when I log pepperjack cheese I had to search for it, and then pick one that had the option to swap the servings measure to grams, then I enter the number of grams for servings. My diary is…
  • People will tell you to only weigh yourself once a week or so to get an idea of real progress, as weight can fluctuate quite a bit day to day. If it makes you feel better to weigh yourself daily, do it. You won't see a decrease every day, and you will see some increases, but it's kind of fun to track your progress daily.
  • I don't think that there are four player Wii fitness games. You could play 4 player tennis. That can be a workout if you play hard. I'll be honest, my first thought in reading your post was that if you're playing with your kids anyway, you might as well go outside and do it for real. I know you can't do ski jumping, but…
  • Great post *like*
  • You could just eat the salad and 1/3 of the plate of spaghetti. 90% of your enjoyment comes from the first two bites of a food item anyway.
