How is barely running (two 3 mile runs) not a taper? That's the definition of a taper...cutting back your running. As far as nutrition goes leading up to the race, that advice comes from research done on the subject (not by me!) and is fairly well accepted practice by any running group or publication I've ever seen.…

Its smart to plan now! What to wear is tough. I get VERY hot when I run so even in 30 degree weather I start off with my normal short sleeve shirt and shorts. If it is below freezing I'll put on some thin gloves but I just can't and don't need cold weather gear. If you want something for the starting line while you wait to…

My hackles really don't get raised until cleaning the house gets logged. Then I raise my hackles.

You don't want to be my friend then...I do triathlons and just this past weekend I had a 13 mile run on Saturday + mile swim (160ish minutes) followed by a metric century on the bike the next day around 240 minutes. Those were easily 5000+ calorie days for me. It is possible and not that difficult.

That sounds pretty active to me.

My advice is don't eat the pizza. But invite me along when you order and I will eat the pizza. Mmmm...pizza.

You shouldn't feel bad about taking your own food to other people's homes. I have very few friends who make good decisions about their health and I don't see any need to eat junk just because that's all they can offer. A good host should have food that their guests want to eat. I always make sure to buy food for all…

5:30pm seems pretty special...that only comes once a day 8)

I like the Oreo in its pure, unadulterated form. If you start doing things to them then you have a processed, unclean Oreo.

I encourage everyone to give up peanut butter and mail it to me

I spend about 5 1/2 hours a week running, 2 hours swimming and 3 - 4 hours biking. We'll call it 10 hours a week 8) I do fit some resistance workouts in there though 3 days a week.

The consequences are inconceivable. 8(

You might want to try some compression gear as well. You may find that helps with the discomfort from the swelling
-
Laugh about it if you want but there's been medical research on this for years. I'll trust the scientists and doctors.

Yes, there's a big move to standing desks because sitting is really horrible for us in the quantities that our jobs demand

Guys, I'm really concerned after reading this article. Last week was my best week of triathlon training this year. I did 100 miles on the bike, 42 miles running and a few hours of swimming. Now I'm worried that all the hard work I've put in getting to my ideal weight is shot? Will my BF% go up like 10% do you think after…

I'm always shocked when I hear someone say they think the dreadmill is more enjoyable than a run outside. I'm glad that it is easier to up the speed on that medieval torture device so that I can get my miles logged and get off the thing quicker. I don't even take music with me when I run outside...the changing scenery is…

Actually what's more absurd than me running in compression gear is me not running in compression gear and ending up with shin splints.

Marathons are a bit crazy but definitely worth doing at least once if you love running. You'll get to run all day! If you enjoy 10ks though and you haven't tried a half marathon you should try working up to one. After a full marathon, even though I was well prepared for it...I was in pain. Just the training was pretty…

I really got into running in January 2008 and I haven't looked back since! Depends but anywhere from 3 - 5. I've started doing triathlons as well so its hard to get all 5 runs in sometimes. I like my short runs to be 4 - 6 miles during the week and then my long runs on the weekend 8 - 11 miles. Keeps me ready to run a half…

Send that form in and then just do the best you can on race day. No matter how good/bad you feel afterwards, its your first one and it gives you a goal for the next! Once you spend the money on a race its so much easier to stick to your training plans ;)

I feel like such a bum. I set my alarm for 5:30 but usually don't start my run/bike/swim till 6ish.

I wouldn't do it because I'd hate to know I lost to a kid who was riding in a stroller ;)

Hello! I grew up in Florida and started diving in High School...been almost 15 years now, can't believe it. I live up in Tampa but I travel down to "visit" my parents in Lake Worth frequently to go diving. I love it, I've been all over the world. Its one of the big reasons I stay in shape 8)

I don't even try and eat back my calories as a runner. I eat when I'm hungry...but while I was building up for my marathon in January, there were days where I'd run deficits of over 1,000 calories. All that happened was I lost all the weight I wanted to lose fairly easily 8) Its actually hard to keep up with your caloric…

I got mine for swimming and it works great for me. That's all I use mine for.

Everyone is different and its impossible to know what sort of base you have based on what you told us. I'd say...do what you can but you should know from your track experience to not push it either. Injury won't help your cause! Speed wise? I don't think you can make major gains in 3 weeks. Endurance? That you probably can…

Yes, I drink it. What are we having?

I used to say there was no way I could do an early morning workout. I'd tried morning runs in the past and felt miserable at times. And I couldn't consistently wake up that early. But I ran a marathon a month ago and I realized almost immediately when I started training that evening workouts got pre-empted way too often…

I think you'll be fine. At that distance you shouldn't really need much/any recovery time for the race.
