  • This is inspiring--congratulations to all of you! I lost 75 and have maintained for over 20 years.
  • YES!! Exactly. I feel like the rings challenge my upper body, but bodyweight exercises for lower don't since my legs are used to carrying my body around all day. Thanks for the ideas! I've actually been working on pistol squats and really enjoying the process. Definitely want more like that. :)
  • Thanks for the links, I'll check these out.
  • Thanks! That's a great idea, and there are at least 2 at my gym.
  • I thought of TRX also but when I looked up exercise ideas, I only saw a few targeting lower body. Squats, single leg squats, jump squats. Are there others?
  • I'm sorry you're struggling. I've been free of binge eating for years now--after struggling with it for 20 years of my life. :( So I'll share what helped me in case it can help you or someone else. I did work with a therapist, so you might look into that. I would always find myself in a frenzied state of mind in the…
  • I did 16:8 for 2 years and liked it/thought it was easy to stick with. Due to my calorie deficit I got very lean, and after 2 years IF started to not work for me. I felt very depleted in the gym and became obsessed with when I could eat again. I was thinking about food constantly but stuck to the program anyway--too rigid…
  • What worked for me was figuring out how to feel full and satisfied within my calorie budget. For me that meant increasing protein (keeps me full) and "volume eating," though I never knew there was a name for it. I basically bulk up my meals with a lot of low calorie foods (mainly veggies) so my stomach stays full and I can…
  • I agree with fruit (bananas!). But I've found that protein powder is sweet, satisfies my sweet tooth, and provides extra protein that keeps me full for a long time. You can make recipes with protein powder too, not just shakes. Do a search and you'll find a bunch of ideas. One of my favorites is "protein fluff."
  • I followed what my doctor told me and was able to get off the medicine. It's true that everyone has different triggers, so you'll have to find yours. Some of the common ones are garlic, onion, tomato, chocolate, alcohol, higher fat foods, spicy foods, vinegar/mustard based foods/dressings, caffeine, and citrus. You didn't…
  • I eat carbs at every meal-mostly oatmeal, sweet potatoes, fruit, and ton of vegetables. It's usually around 200 grams a day, which is about 50% for me.
  • Weight loss is all about eating a calorie deficit, so while skipping one 60 calorie orange won't affect your long-term results, omitting 60 calories in your food log, multiple times a day, day after day, will add up to big inaccuracies in your logging and pounds on the scale/body fat you can't lose. Log everything. You may…
  • Banana peppers--due to acid reflux. I had to give up many things I liked, but I was able to add back in small amounts of some. Not banana peppers, though--found out the hard way.
  • Regardless of your visual/aesthetic results, strength training has so many benefits for bone density, retaining muscle mass (which maintains metabolism), and proper posture/body mechanics as you age that I'd never recommend giving it up. I agree with others that building muscle takes time and you may get the results you…
  • If I'm out of calories and still hungry, a couple tricks that help me are drinking something calorie free/very low calorie or chewing gum. Another thing you can do to help with that is pre-log your food the day before. Then if you get hungry between meals, you can find something from the next meal to have sooner. I pre-log…
  • I've used this site where you can build your own. My first recipe came out bland, but I've made a few good combinations since then: https://thecookful.com/veggie-burger-formula-make-perfect-burger/
  • I'm a 48 year old lifter! I traded excessive cardio for lifting about 2 years ago. It completely changed my body. I'd love to have you as a friend!
  • 5'2" 48 years old 103 lbs. I maintain at 1580 calories and am strict with hitting calories. Not as strict with macros, but they always fall in the same range. I eat 1580 whether I exercise or not and don't "eat back" exercise calories. Macros are about Protein 40%, Carbs 50%, Fat 10%. Probably could use more fat, but I…
  • My suggestion is the same as @araglen. Increasing protein can keep you full longer, and adding a lot of veggies will fill up your stomach while keeping calories lower (bonus--lots of nutrients and fiber). I have a pretty big appetite and use the concept of "volume eating" to make my meals feel satisfying while still…
  • I'm so glad! Linking you to the first page, so jump forward a bit for recipes, pictures, ideas... https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10563959/volume-eaters-thread/p1
  • I've been free of binge eating for years now--after struggling with it for 20 years of my life. :( Therapy helped a lot, so I'd recommend that. Here's what I did in case it helps you or someone else. I would always find myself in a frenzied state of mind in the grocery store buying a bunch of "forbidden" foods to binge…
  • Good info here from others. I have been free of the binge eating for years now--I struggled with it for 20 years of my life. :( But I don't even have the urge anymore. Therapy helped a lot, so I'd recommend that. Here's what I did in case it helps you or someone else reading. I would always find myself in a frenzied state…
  • I've been on an overnight oats kick for oooh, 5 years, lol. 40 grams of oats, 11 grams of chia seeds, 30 grams of protein powder, whatever fruit compliments the protein flavor, and almond milk to the consistency you like. I like mine thicker. Soak overnight and eat warm or cold in the morning.
  • My boss lost weight on keto. I lost weight with lots of carbs. We both had a calorie deficit. I opt not to eat candy, desserts, etc. because I tend to lose control with those, but I eat around 200 grams of carbs every day via fruit, oats, vegetables, etc. I've maintained my loss and even improved body composition doing…
  • On a good note, working at a desk gives you a lot of control over what you eat. I had a job for awhile where I would have to drive around to my accounts all day. I had to pack a cooler every day but I would still run out of food sometimes and get stuck trying to find the healthiest thing on the road... having done both,…
  • I have a desk job, eat high carbs, and snack frequently while consistently staying within my calorie budget (maintaining lost weight for years). I don't mean that you shouldn't eat low carb or curb snacking if you want to, but you don't necessarily have to do those things. Hitting your calories *consistently* matters the…
  • Keep in mind IF doesn't always mean skipping breakfast. I do 16:8 but I do eat breakfast and stop eating by 4pm. I'm very hungry in the morning after my workout and not as hungry in the evenings. You can plan your meals around the schedule that works best for you.
  • Yes, I am! I've never been able to say I'm completely happy with my body until the last year, and I'm almost 50! Better late than never I guess.
  • Oh, sorry if I wasn't clear. Completely agree--carbs are not bad. That was actually my point, lol! Some people who lose weight "cutting carbs" attribute it to the carbs without realizing how many calories they were actually eating.
  • Is it any wonder that people lose weight when they "cut carbs"? Besides shedding water initially, cutting carbs can mean cutting hundreds of calories. Some people really are less tolerant or carbs, but I think many people are convinced they can't eat carbs when they really just need to be mindful of calories.
