  • I'd love more eaters on my friends list!
  • Check out local clinics and ask for a thyroid blood test. Not that much and then you'll know. Hypothyroidism, left untreated has been linked to future fertility problems. Not something one wants to dismiss, especially when a simple blood test could yield results showing a modest thyroid hormone adjustment will correct a…
  • Oh, my. I'm in. Scary as it was upping my calories in June, what's a little private public posting of me in my undies?
  • Well, take me for one lurker who after reading your type of post, did take it to heart and researched and researched. I was eating 1000-1200 calories and have upped them now into the 1900-2100 range. Yes, I did gain the 5 pounds of glycogen/water weight. No, I wasn't happy about it but knowing after eating at this level…
  • I was always a huge breakfast eater. As a little eenie weenie kid, my family aside from my dad would leave the travel diner while he ordered a second French Toast order for me. Fast forward to the teen years and I cut it all out. Coffee could hold me off till 2 pm. A little salad, a little dinner, and I thought I was good…
  • Just skimmed this and so appreciate the knowledge! This is on my to read late at night while unable to sleep list. Above Terry Gross.
  • Sounds like you know the answer from your past experience. Stop at the point that you feel is far enough in training and maintain there.
  • Wow! Wonderful progress! You look awesome. I just took photos last week. Thank you for your courage! It's super inspiring.
  • Ok, had to travel and missed my W2 D2 for a couple of days. And, my shoes I ordered two weeks ago and promised in 5 days are still not anywhere in sight. Found Zappos carries them, so I've ordered them, and unfortunately will receive them way before the local fitness store. Seriously, my toes are curled in my decades old…
  • Ohhh, I'm looking forward to this moment! Right now, I'm strictly sticking with the app. It's such a secure protective voice assuring me, ok, now, slow down and begin walking. And, I'm all yes, ok, now, I'll walk. Because I'm a newbie and used to trying to run till exhaustion, only never to want to run again. I'm waiting…
  • So, what is a good way to keep track of progress of bf %? I'm considering researching a BF scale, knowing they're not accurate but hopeful they would track relative changes. Based on my measurements averaged between the online calcs and the above chart, I'm between ideal and lean and I know that's not correct. The other…

  • A cut or a bulk is determined by your calorie intake and not the weight of your lifts as far as I know. By lifting, you maintain more muscle while reducing your intake and lose more fat. The current lifting for women strategy is all about low reps/heavy weights. And many think the low weight/many reps is not as efficient.…

  • I love Lemon Curd! Trader Joes has a wonderful one but is made with sugar. Sub a regular recipe with Stevia and it's just as phenomenal as long as you're allowing egg yolks. Add some toasted coconut and almonds. Maybe a little coconut butter, aka Manna and, yum!
  • I'm going to remember this! Speed has been my nemesis till now. No longer am I trying to get there faster. Now, I'm just trying to get there. Week 2, 3, 4, whenever my body is willing, Then there I will be. David Carradine seems to be whispering in my ear.
  • Love that you've found your own fire! No reason why it needs to coincide with any one else's. Just continue to run at the pace that feels comfortable to you and pushing yourself when things become a little easy. That's metabolism intuitively correcting itself, despite our eating choices!
  • I've just started and am on D3 of W1. I started off this by saying I was only going to go at a relaxed pace. One where my shoulders were down, my elbows loosely bent and my breathing relaxed and easy. All other times I had set out to "run"! And was left feeling nauseous and hating running. These last few times I have been…
  • The lick and sniff test works well. Just lick the back of your hand, let dry and sniff. If it's pretty yucky, yup, ketosis.i bought the strips but this is so much easier.
  • Amazing work! I'm similarly shaped and it's so encouraging to see your transformation. Thanks for the advice about the book and booking an appointment with a trainer. I just bought Strong Curves and got NROLFW from the library. Have a long standing gym membership but didn't,t know how to translate from the book to the gym.…
  • I've done really well when I have a large breakfast. It actually causes me not to get hungry until late in the afternoon. Which can mess with my meeting my goals. I feel best when I've quick seared a New York strip or similar cut and then popped into the oven to finish off. I can get most of my protein that way and finish…
  • Many! I actually can't even buy things in a box any longer. It just reminds me of cat and dog food that is poured into a bowl, then eaten with spoons or fingers. So, I no longer buy any of it for my husband and son. And have told them if they want different foods they'll have to get them. My motto is " Do not buy anything…
  • Thank you for this! So many posts like this one lately have made my head swim in confusion: I do get bulky when I've lifted in the past. People have stated, no, you can't get bulky, then proceed to post a pic of someone's who bulky as evidence of non bulkiness. In Contreras' Strong Curves he gives the example of two women,…
  • Lorinalyn, You are so inspiring! I saw this in one of the other threads and you're responsible for me getting back to lifting after a decade. And continuing on till I see results! I'd love to know what program you followed. For the OP, I bought Strong Curves by Contreras based on someone's description as it being a simpler…
  • I'm hypothyroid also. Interestingly when I questioned my physician at my last physical about slow weight loss and hypothyroidism, her response was, " if you're on medication at the correct level, thryoid's functions are corrected, so weight loss will be corrected". I'm beleiving her. For years I had the idea weight loss…
  • I'm in California so that might be the reason for local providers of duck fat and pastured butters. I think of avocados as butter, as a source of moisturizing fat. Sliced or cubed on top of eggs, specially wonderful with bacon. Or cubed with steak. There's a wonderful recipe with avocado stickblended to become a pudding…
  • I've found duck fat in the meat department. It's from a local producer. I'd ask the butcher and if they don't carry it, they may be able to order. I've yet to find a pastured bacon, so go for the uncured. My butcher does sell pork belly. Again, grain fed so I typically don't use much lard or bacon grease. My go to cooking…
  • Definitely check out local farmers for buying beef, pork or chicken. Even without a separate freezer, if you don't normally keep a lot of frozen items, you can still store a quarter beef. And it reduces tremendously on your most costly food item. So, use the high rent district to hold the high rent food. www.eatwild.com is…
  • Let's see if I get this right. The recommendation is to cut back on cardio. Walking a few times a week is good. Weight lifting 3-4 times a week. Which does not influence your calorie requirements enough to modify your net calorie intake.
  • Just got Contreras' Strong Cuves and love it! So many versions from just the basic booty to the advanced and love the adaptations if not able to make it to the gym for a day or at all. It's a really well thought out book! And very nicely written.
  • With most batches, a new scoby forms on the top layer of the solution so you can end up with additional batches/jars brewing. Or you can just use both the original, mother and the new, baby one in the same jar. Sometimes they fuse together. Having a baby ensures that everything is fermenting along well. The baby is the…
