Yeah, I found your mojo in that HIIT workout I did this morning. Find what you love and do that!

I would agree that doing compound exercises that incorporate lots of muscle groups are ideal for the approach you mentioned. Spot exercising just doesn't work, unless you've built a sufficient foundation everywhere. When people say compound exercises, it's exercises like squats, deadlifts, presses, pullups, dips, etc. And…

Sorry if this isn't exactly what you experienced, but I herniated two discs in my back L4-L5 and L5-S1. Lot's of time off until it was healed, regular chiro visits and stretching for back and hamstrings. Got back after three months, and everything has been going fairly well since (a few tweaks but not workout preventing).…

lifters and readers. Hmm. Sounds good...but hopefully not at the same time. :) Drop me a note with your request and free to add me.

I'm in maintenance but looking for some new friends. Into lifting, tennis, HIIT and running (a little-lol).

Running shoes from a good running store will definitely help. Make sure the people who serve you know how to fit shoes properly. Don't know how far you live from home, but cook and freeze a weeks worth of meals (use a Saturday and cook like mad!) and then store that if possible (Not sure about the size of your…

Shoes, shoes, shoes. THey make all the difference. From a newb who's daughter encouraged him to get running shoes. What a difference!

I'm older and had the same issue with hip flexors and ankle flexibility. Work at it with other stretches, and keep the weights light until you have form down. It comes with time. As to the Smith machine, my recommednation is to stay away from it. The bar path is wrong, and the auxiliary muscle and balance issues are…

Terrific!

Freaking awesome!

I'm not maintaining the extreme loss these others have mentioned, but I would say find activities you love to do and do them. Find food you love and learn what a serving is. Set goals and celebrate the victories you achieve. Be careful who you invite into your inner circle, as not everyone has your best interests at heart.…

Lot's of people have done this here. In fact, some have lost more than half of their body weight. You can do this if you're committed to the process. Make sure you have friends who support you and learn to ignore the negatives. Celebrate the victories and log your daily calories. You'll be amazed at the results!

I agree with the comments about weighing your food, if for no other reason than eliminating that as a problem. Also, I would encourage you to put everything on your diary (if you aren't) It's for your own record, and if you go to a nutritionist, the accurate listing will greatly facilitate your progress. Also, how long…

Terrific progress. I love the heavy weights approach. You look fabulous.

Wow, you holding your daughter in the second picture actually makes you look a lot smaller...Oh, wait, you really are! Congratulations. :)

Your discipline is amazing, but your calories scare me. They just do.

I am scared reading this post. It's obvious there's a major issue, and if your wife cannot convince you of your issues, it's doubtful we can. EDs are diseases, and need to be treated as such. Please get help. For your sake and your wife's.

If it's slight, it could be from anything. Certainly starting a new program will affect things. Shoes are also a critical item. Good shoes can have a huge impact on your knees and ankles. I certainly have experienced that. However, you might also be seeing some fallout from the TTH lifting, especially if you are doing some…

I agree that you should look for a bodyweight program. Not doable with dumbbells for all of the reasons stated and more. There are some great bodyweight programs involving pushups, hindu squats, pullups, dips and several other exercises that will add functional strength and go along with any eating program you are on. Good…

Congrats. Great work so far. Keep it up.

What a phenomenal transformation. The saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" is really true in this case!

I love lifting. I always have. At first it was to get stronger, but part was to look better (more muscular). Over time, it became something that I have done because I enjoy everything about going to the gym and lifting heavy. As I get older, I find that my goals have changed, and now I'm looking to gain strength while…

First of all, congratulations for your loss so far. You are on the right path. Losing weight is like lifting weights in a gym. You need to have blinders on because your main competition is yourself, not someone else. Also, you are going to see some weeks where you lose more weight, and some weeks where you'll lose less, or…

Feel free to add me. I'm a dad with grown kids (5) and can tell you that your health is a precious gift, just like being a dad is!

Terrific job. Being in shape is a blast, isn't it?

I've been maintaining for several months and while I can't say that I'll use the site FOREVER, I plan to use it tomorrow. I like the self accountability, and the easy place to track the choices I make. Plus I really enjoy the interaction I get from the group of friends who have chosen to go along with me. We'll see about…

Here's my response to light weights for toning...BS. Fitness instructors who know what they are talking about encourage their clients to lift heavier. Now heavy is relative. But you'll be losing weight as you diet. Exercise is going to firm your muscles. Most ladies who lift heavy have wonderful tone. They often don't GAIN…

Feel free to add me as well. I agree with Britishbroccoli on the lifting stuff. Weights are the way to go, but light weights don't do enough! Heavy complex movements are the ticket. Search in the community area. You'll see lots of ladies who have made terrific changes using heavy complex movements, and developing super…

Matt, I'm not a power-lifter but I use the lifts (Squat, DL and Bench) as the basis for my lifting. I'm not sure how feasible it is to cut unless it's a short term cut to make weight for a meet. The lifts are so demanding that even maintenance puts a lot of strain on your system. I can't imagine trying to do that with any…

Hi. My name's Steve and I've been here for a while. In maintenance but I'm looking for some new friends who enjoy the give and take that goes in here in MFP!
