Omega 6 FAs are not bad in the proper amounts. They are essential fatty acids. Shakeology can lead to a 20# weight loss in one month, or 5 pounds a week? Is this lost as water weight, muscle loss or fat loss, or all of the above? If so, do studies show that this weight is kept off? Is this touted as being a healthy form of…

Didn't you post some unanswered questions you posed to Beachbody a few months ago? I remember that thread (though don't have time to look for it) and it was very interesting.

I the past few years I've lost 20 pounds, am down to ~10% body fat, only get sick about once a year (and it's mild at that), cut down drastically on insulin requirements (Type 1 DM), brought my blood pressure down to 110s/60s, got to a resting heart rate in the 40s, I feel fantastic, have great endurance, poop like…

There appears to be some confusion about what restless legs are versus muscle cramps. Tonic water (quinine), magnesium and stretching will treat cramps, a muscle problem Iron supplementation for those with iron deficiency, or dopamine receptor agonists will treat the symptoms of RLS, a central neurologic problem.

Looks like you have four options: (1) decrease your Lantus, which could lead to highs during the day (unless your bolus ratios are not correct (2) Load up on some longer acting carbs with some protein and fat prior to bed (and watch the scale climb), (3) get on a pump or (4) wake up earlier and work out in the morning. I'm…

These are two different but related disorders. A sleep study will not diagnose you with restless legs syndrome, which is an uncomfortable sensation in the legs that goes away with movement. PLMs occur during sleep and often without the person being aware, unless the movements wake him or her up. Both of these are movement…

These are numbers I pretty consistently get with the FT4. I'm 39, 5'10" 175#. First month: Pure Cardio: 550 Plyo Cardio: 650 Cardio Power & Resistance: 520 Cardio Abs: 200 (when done after another routine) Core Cardio and Balance: 400 Second month: Max Cardio: 650 Max Interval Plyo: 750 Max Interval Circuit: 700 Extras:…

If you can afford to purchase Insanity, you should be able to afford a heart rate monitor. I couldn't imagine doing it without it. Today I did Max Interval Circuit for the first time in about a year, and it was very nice to see when my HR was approaching my max and I needed to slow it down a bit.

Perhaps you still have fat overlying your lower abdominal muscles?
-
Hmm.... like a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat? I'll chime in with the water weight - and that muscle hypertrophies faster than fat comes off. I gained a couple pounds the first week or so, but it does come off quite quickly as you go through the program.

I'd contact beachbody immediately to get a disc. Try running, stretching, yoga. The routine is pretty much lighter cardio for the first half with some isometric type moves in the second half.

Unless you're already in fairly good cardiovascular shape, I would advise P90X first. Insanity is aptly named as it is full on cardio for 40-60 minutes. P90X is more weightlifting, but has some good lower level cardio workouts. I used P90X as a starting point for working out, then moved on to Insanity, Asylum, then P90X2.

I've done Insanity, Asylum and hybrids with both. Don't go full out when warming up - you'll run out of gas later. And go at your own pace - or focus on those in the back row. Tania gets annoying fast. Keep doing it - it will get easier - until month 2 that is. Then just keep doing it some more. Eat. A lot. In the second…

Sound like benign fasciculations. These can occur following heavy exertion, or too little magnesium.

The P90X Yoga DVD is atrocious. It's disjointed, way too long, doesn't flow well and Tony Horton talks way too much. After using it a few times, I printed out the poses and did them without the video and cut it down to an hour. I then went back to other Yoga DVDs I used before - mainly from Rodney Yee. The P90X2 Yoga is a…

It's the carbs. Also, were you fasting when you had your blood taken?

I've used diet sodas for 30+ years (diet Coke with saccharin, yuck). My sister said she read (on the Internet, of course) that artificial sweeteners cause cognitive problems and poison the body. I reminded her I'm a physician with a PhD in molecular genetics and am in pretty good shape yet still drink diet sodas daily. I…
