Here's another point of view.... Being an 'elite' athelte, no matter what sport, is extremely hard on the body. If an individual spends enough time training & competing they will accummalate injuries that will affect them for the rest of their lives. Most of my best coaches & trainers were former olympic level athletes.…

1st to say, over time i've learned that the diet/eating habits is the MOST important part of a healthy life style. For several years I focused on workig out. Not getting the results and increasing my intensity and the frequency. I got very strong & very athletic but still carried a lot of extra weight. To the point where i…

- read up on what 'clean eating' is ++ THe cleaner it is the harder it is to eat all your calories - eating 'processed' carbs makes you hungrier. + as in Oatmeal feels you up but speghetti noodles just make you want to eat more - confirm that you're on the right calorie count. Hope this helps, scott

good to have you on board and it sounds like you're doing the right things. take care, scott

mo120 - has it right, dump the doc, 800 calories is absurd. Get a sport nutritionist. And the scale is only useful if you it with some kind of fat % checker and measuring tape.

i have known a few people like this and i believe part of their notzi like fanatism to 'their' program is based on their own insecurities. She/they would worry that if another way worked than maybe their way is wrong and they can't handle that so they attack you instead of dealing with their own issues. As for the atkins…

i'm on week 7 of the standard p90x. as for recovery, definetly look into it. Prosource.net gives lots of reviews on different products. I also us some BCAA to help with recovery along with a good multi-vitamen and LOTs of water.

do a search on 'starvation' here on MFP. I read a really good story with a lot of info just a couple days ago. In fact i forwarded the link to my co-workers. This particular ariticle talked about the long term effects that she suffered from an extended low calorie diet. Good luck, scott

I mentioned doing the research on Prosource.net earlier, or any website. But also look into other products beyound just the post-workout drink. - Multi-vitamens (that include anti-inflamatory or joint wellness) + i use USANA (twice daily) - Joint wellness - BCAA - post-workout recovery drink I also will go swimming when…

Hot shower before a light workout. You can use very light weights to help stretch. As in doing the circuts but just going through the motions to warm the muscles and help stretch them. Lots of anti-inflamatories to reduce the swelling and alllow the the healing to happen. I know you said no ice baths but after i was…

not a lot of info to go on. Off the top, get a second opinion. Assuming now recent physical trauma, i just got done reading an review on a protein powder that gave someone a kidney infection causing similar symptoms.

Changing the hand position as others have mentioned can make the situps easier and help target the right area. BUT if it's still too difficult, try anchoring your feet. As in sliding your toes under the couch. To make the leg raises easier, you can place your hands under your butt or if you need even less weight, raise one…

I've had 3 knee surgeries (ACL), the last one 5 months ago. I am working out twice a day, cardio for lunch & p90x after work. Here's what been working for me. Good hydration, sleep, and some preventative measures.. As in I take multi-vitamins that include joint relief. As well as post workout BCAA, helps with muscle…

Obviously I am partial to Judo, but you mentioned Self Defense. Any style that you choose should be done with a trained self defense instructor. As in my case, I've done judo for many years and at a very high level. My training would be very useful in a self defense situation, ie..automatically reacting. But to train…

i really liked these, in fact i added them to my signature "working hard today for a better me tomorrow" and it was something like this and i paraphrased "6 packs aren't made in the gym but in the kitchen"

I didn't have a door way that i could use so I purchased a free standing pullup bar with Dip station from amazon for about $80

i'm a gym rat, working out has never been a problem to me. Although my 'diet' has been a struggle and something i'm working hard at now. Anyway, someone mentioned not wanting to workout in a gym due to people making fun of them. GYms are meant for people who want to work, what ever that level is and it's pretty easy to…

there's been a couple commercials about pickup lines i've actually thought were pretty good. "how much does a polarbear weight? Enough to break the ice" HAHA or "Are you a parking ticket because you got FINE written all over you" outstanding :)

I'm in my 3rd week of P90x and can already notice a difference in my functional mobility. I've had 2 ACL surgeries in the last year & half and now i'm working to get the weight back off. I'm looking forward to the strength gains, but the Plyo & Yoga have really helped me in recovering core stregnth, flexibility, and that…
