Partial rotator cuff tear and a SLAP tear in my left shoulder this past Dec '16. Contrast MRI showed both. The sports Dr was convinced I just strained something but when I went back in a month later due to still having pain, he ordered the contrast MRI. That lead to a sports surgeon consultation where they did not…

OMG you didn't know that about red shirts?! (<-humor warning, just in case).

Some can, some can't. I'm in the can't group. I have to have something about an hour before lifting otherwise I start to feel sick and nauseous (sometimes light headed too). I also know some people that don't need to eat beforehand and they kill it in the gym.

If you read the book, or any of the FAQ associated with SS, then you would not need to start off with "traditional" (not even sure what that means as SS IS traditional) strength training. It is set up as a beginner program. You can start with the BB or even lower. Rip mentions you may get a couple large jumps with squats…

Angry or hangry? lol

The only thing my Dr has ever commented about on weight was when I went in for an annual, then 6 months later for illness then annual again, then in for an illness again. So I was about 205lbs, then 182, then 194lbs, then 183. He was like ????? you dropped 23lbs then regained 12lbs, then lost 11lbs. What's going on? I…

^^and...I have no idea why they posted sideways....

Yea! In! Just finished up with a 2 week diet break and plan to finish cutting until the end of Sept, possibly the first couple weeks of Oct, then transition into a nice long slow bulk. Hope to be down to 180 by the time I end the cut.

Can't speak for Chieflrg but using straps around the bar is the ONLY way I can get front squats to work. I suppose if I did them all the time the flexibility would come but they aren't programmed in that frequently.

Nothing like some of you folk but happy with my 315x2 rep pr for squats. Never, ever worked legs prior to my 40's so I've gone from struggling with 135 to a couple reps at 315. This is also at a lower bodyweight (190 vs 215)compared to the first time I got a single at 315. https://youtu.be/rddyRudXALo

^^^ I thought the title was just a little joke until I saw the swifter! LOL!

Yes! We sit down as a family and I eat whatever it is we are having (plus I end up cooking 2-3 times per week). I just make sure my portions are in control and I don't go over calories. Had tater tot casserole and green beans the other night. Kept to a reasonable amount. As said above you're making this harder than it…

If you lift heavy your appetite will increase. Nothing like the bottomless hole the day after deadlifts.
-
Lol, Konstantinovs. I'm not sure that I'd ever see below 31 even if I somehow miraculously got down to 4% (which ain't a never gonna happen). Midsection has thickened up from deads and squats. 32's would be nice though, as I always see 32's on the clearance rack. Back when I was 36-38 there were hardly any pants in that…
-
^^^ yep, should have thrown in lower back fat too cause I've got it. Not so secret goal is to fit into size 32 pants, currently 33s. The lower I get and the more I assess I really think if I got down around 10% BF I'd be able to fit into 31s. When I graduated HS I wore a 29 in Wranglers. Just another goal to fit along with…
-
Oh, I hear you. 5'11" here, 184 with pudge going on. Graduated HS (damn near 30yrs ago!) at 163, great upper body, stick legs. I think 174 would put me close to "right". Body is weird. Most of me looks lean but I carry my fat exactly around the bellybutton area and the inner thighs. Lower abs saw some veins the other…
-
^^^Damn, that's some vascularity! I've still got about 10lbs to go down and I'm not sure I'd be that cut.
-
Bolded the most important part.
-
Exactly! Currently my bodyweight is going down but my lifts are going up. I'm not "building muscle" I'm getting neuromuscular adaptations (in other words my muscles are working more efficiently and together).
-
When you stall has nothing to do with how close to BW you are. Most people find OHP the toughest to make strength gains on. Took me 3 years to go from the BB to 165lb (still 20 off from BW) with lots of deloads. Shoulder injury that I'm rehabbing currently, will probably take another year to work back up to 165. 4 years…

It's hard to know as there are so many variables. Age, gender, previous lifting experience, hormone profiles, lifting program etc. It's a good idea to track weight AND measurements. Reassess after a period of time. 1/2 the year I use powerlifting for reassessment (how much have my lifts increased, during bulk) and the…

Kind of why I use TDEE and watch the scale some. In my case (I don't have a HRM) I'm usually building/repairing something on the weekends, but that's only maybe 9 months out of the year. Like this past Sunday. Spent 6 hours working on repair the deck. Loaded the lumber, hauled it to the back. Cut, hammer, nail or bolt into…

Just reiterating what the others have said (and in case someone pops in here with the calorie vs nutrition). Hit your macros - protein, fats, carbs Hit your micros - vitamins, minerals, fiber, blah, blah blah Since macros and micros are taken care of for physical needs (i.e., nutrition) then: Whatever higher calorie stuff…

Only when I'm dead will you pry the Coke Zero from my hands.......
-
That's a real solid increase on bench! <thumbs up> I have a sneaking suspicion that if you dropped OHP down to 4-5 reps 4-5 sets you might start seeing a strength increase. I personally think that the delts and tri's, being smaller muscle groups, get fatigued more easily.

Well, now I'm all jealous of not living in Idaho anymore :'( Maybe I need to pay a visit to my Mom and plan an extra day next year.
-
A single baby aspirin shouldn't hurt though correct? I'm talking 1 in the am as my Dr prescribed. I have no issue stopping the extra baby aspirins.
-
Haven't looked at any studies for a while. I do recall the ones I read as "the jury is undecided". Guess I'll have to look again. Year round I take 1 baby aspirin per a different Drs recommendation.
-
Why yes, carbs are the enemy! In fact, to take one for the team, go ahead and send me all the carbs and I'll take care of them for you! (tongue in cheek humor).

Disclaimer I am not advocating or recommending this at all. There are serious risks involved and you should speak with a MD before running out and trying this protocol. For some people it can be deadly. That being said, I run an ECA stack myself during a cut. 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. I DID clear it with one of my MD's.…
