  • The wife and I started at the same time. It was good having each other to support. Combined we have lost about 240 pounds. I don't have any overweight friends, but they have been very supportive. The people I have met on MFP have been great as well.
  • It is easy, depending you start high enough. If your a 20+ size, go for it. If your a <10 size, get help.
  • Welcome. Just take it a day at a time. You won't know yourself after the surgery. The weight loss and change in lifestyle for the first two years afterwards is truly amazing.
  • ^^^ This as well. You have to be in the right mindset. How you go about eating/exercising will be something you need to work out for yourself and what suits. I don't advertise what I did/do because I don't need the "insight" of somebody who has a few pounds to lose. 150 pounds + is a challenge in itself. It is not as easy…
  • Set your major goal ( to lose 150 Pounds ) and a HEAP of mini goals. Clothes sizes top and bottom exercise goals. Finish a quarter/half/mile walk then beat the time. bmi goals weight loss in 5/10/20/50/100 pound chunks weight loss in 5/10/20/50 kilogram chunks ( The more goals the merrier ) take every measurement and track…

  • Vinegar Olive oil or sesame oil if I'm going for an Asian flavour ( only need a tiny bit) Low salt soy sauce Chilli to taste or cracked pepper depending on the dish Star anise or Chinese 5 spice I just use all different combinations of those. I agree with the calorie comments for Olive oil. I try to get at least a tsp a…
  • Set goals.Regardless of how small they are, once you hit a milestone you are motivated to keep on going. After a while the laziness habit makes way for a fitness habit. Avoid negative people. I only surround myself with positive, motivated people. The habit wears off. Ignore people who say "Just do it". A stupid Nike…
  • I was referring to the twinkies comment.
  • Ok. Except your body takes the easiest route to find energy. Low carb vegetables in the main take more energy to digest than they provide and nutritionally excellent and provide a feeling of satiety. Junk food will give you an unnecessary sugar and carbohydrate hit and have you hungry again sooner. Plus it would be a poor…
  • Fructose (sugar) is still sugar. Your body will burn it before it starts on any fat reserves you have. So limiting fructose intake encourages fat loss. The same applies for carbohydrates which are easily converted by the body.
  • Tell your friends you are trying to sort out your health and your off the booze for a while. Grab a diet coke so you still have something and enjoy. I'd never stop drinking if it was an option, but weight loss and beer just don't mix. You'll be amazed how quickly you drop weight without beer.
  • Well done. A great effort just to stick with it to the end.
  • Between 4-5 weeks. It all depends on your starting weight.
  • Ha!!. I hadn't even noticed. 100% female on my friend list. Oh well, we are all here for a common goal. Friends request sent.
  • Friend request sent. 130lbs is quite achievable. All up from my heaviest weight which was late last year/early this year i've dropped 127lbs, but only been measuring since Feb ( the reason for the discrepancy in my ticker ). It's just a matter of easy does it and exercise in your own time. Ignore all hype about fast weight…
  • My starting weight was 353 back on the 21st February 2013. Currently at 244. I don't have a goal weight but rather body size and fitness level. I will be roughly about 170, give or take who knows how much.
  • There are a few comments about Optifast helping people lose weight quickly but not get control for a long term weight management plan. I don't think you can blame Optifast for that. Any diet without a long term plan and a major mind shift to change what is wrong with your diet and exercise will fail. For those who say it…
  • Hi there. I'm a dad of two aa well who has lost 100lbs and more to go. Happy to share and give encouragement if you want to add me.
  • Mine is only 700, , but I'm doing that in conjunction with a dietician and doctor. I would not recommend that unless you have a specific diet plan you all have agreed to and it's monitored.
