I want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket.

Go to a running shoe store. Get fitted by the staff so they can analyze your gait. Then ask them to recommend something based on whether you need a neutral or supporting shoe. Finally, plan on replacing them after you have run about 400 miles in them. Mike

Don't follow me. . . I'm lost

I'm training for a half on 11/5. I bought a plan from active.com and the longest run (this past weekend) was 11 miles. Next weekend is a 6 mile run, and then the race the following weekend. Don't forget to cut back on your mileage in the weeks leading up to the race. Good luck, Mike

I bought a Cannondale Caad 10 this past June after my son decided that I need to start doing tri's with him. I bought it with the 105 components. I also bought it with a compact crank set since there are plenty of hills where I live. I love the bike. Now if I could only learn how to swim.

I run. Rain or cold.

That is awesome Amber. You look great! Congratulations for taking control of your health.

I've never experienced a "runner's high". I've been running for 5 years and sometimes I've had to force myself to get out and run. Sometimes I wasn't able to talk myself into it. The good news is you don't get demerits for not running. You just pick it up and go run when you are ready. I've found that having a race…

Savannah Rock n Roll half in November and New Orleans Rock n Roll Half in March. Then the Scenic City Trail Marathon in May (It'll be my first marathon). Definately up for keeping in touch with others working toward similar goals. Mike

I had a stress fracture of my foot this past spring. It was from running too far on my long run without having the base mileage to support it. That was a good lesson for me. I was out for 8 weeks. Mike

I agree. Many runners use Yak Trax or sheet metal screws screwed into the bottom of an old pair of running shoes. A lot cheaper than $275. Mike

The best price shoe is one that fits you properly. The wrong shoe will cause problems with your knees. Go to a running shoe store. Have them determine the type of shoe you need based on your gait. A lot of them also have clinics for beginners as well as sponsored races and fun runs. Good luck Mike

I ran in NW Ohio before moving to TN. I never had an issue running in the winter with regular running shoes. Some people add different things for traction, but I never had to. Last winter I ran several times on trails here in SE Tennessee after it had snowed 8 inches. I wore my regular trail running shoes and had a great…

I think that, unless you have a medical condition that would keep you from running, anyone can run. You have to be patient. Its not going to happen overnight. The only way to get comfortable running. . . is to run. I believe the benefits are well worth the effort. I started running about 5 years ago using the C25K program.…

I'm running a sprint Tri the first weekend in August, 11 mile trail race in October and the Savannah Rock n Roll half in November and New Orleans Rock n Roll half in March. Feel free to add me Mike

And now?

I think a thread dedicated to getting ready for a half marathon or marathon would be great. I would support that.
-
I'm also planning on running the Savannah Rock n Roll half with my son, his girlfriend and some of their friends.

Wow! I'm glad that you are OK. Sounds like a good idea to carry some sort of ID with you when you bike. Good you were wearing your helmet.

I started running in 2006 using the couch to 5K program. It starts you out walking/running for 20 minutes 3 times/week. Very much like you have been doing. It is designed to get you running a 5K (3.1miles) in 9 weeks. It gradually increases the running intervals while shortening the walking intervals. There are a lot of…

I run. And I support other runners. I've only been running since 2006, but I love what it does for me. Mike

I just registered for the Savannah GA Rock n Roll half marathon. It will be my third. I've run the one in Virginia Beach twice. My plan is to run my first marathon next year. It will be either the rock n roll New Orleans (I may run the half) or the Scenic City trail marathon in Chattanooga in May. I started running about 6…

I never said I was obese. I wasn't. I said I had self image issues. And, regardless of what you think, I believe they are rooted in my adolescence. I think the realization that you have an issue, regardless of where it came from, makes it your responsibility to overcome it. I'm not trying to blame anyone.

I think with the humidity the way it has been here in SE TN, I could probably leave them sit on the kitchen counter and they'll be fine.
-
Its a shame. I think I developed most of my self image issues in junior high and high school as well. Unfortunately that tends to be such an important time for our development. Fortunately, once we understand the issue, we can take steps to correct the damage done. Mike

I cook chicken breasts often as well. One of the easiest ways is to put the chicken breasts in a glass cooking pan, cover with a can of diced tomatoes, then bake. You can find diced tomatoes with garlic and herbs. Another favorite; mix an egg and some soy sauce together. Dip the chicken breast in the egg mixture then into…

Hello, Welcome. I hope I explain this correctly. In order to lose weight, you have to create a calorie deficit. You have to burn more calories than you eat. Your goal of 1250 calories each day was calculated to create a deficit that should cause you to lose weight at the rate that you selected when you set up your profile.…
