  • I lost my mother 5 years ago and gained 30 lbs in the months that followed. The only thing I know that works, is to find something besides eating, like walking, reading, swimming, yoga, knitting, etc. that keeps you busy and does not involve food. You will need to remove food from the equation. Comfort food is called that…
  • I know your frustration, and what has helped me some has been to measure everything and make sure you are filling in the right amounts on your diary. And to drink lots of water. I put oranges, lemons or grapefruit in my water when I get bored with plain water. It's amazing how different the measuring amounts and what we…
  • I didn't hit the 30 lb. goal but did manage to lose 23 lbs., since August, so I am happy about that. Now it's time to recommit to healthier eating, to start the new year off right. I'm starting now, so I can get back into a routine before the new year.
  • I have lost 22 lbs since starting this challenge with 8 more to lose by Christmas for a total of 30 lbs. Anything above that will be a Christmas bonus  Trying to stay motivated and moving through the holidays. Good luck, everyone!
  • Trying to stay motivated through the next 8 weeks. I've lost 22 lbs and have 8 more to go to hit my goal of 30 lbs lost by Christmas. My reward will be 4 new outfits as all my clothes are getting baggy. Love that
  • Loved your story and it was very honest and I connected with it a lot. Congratulations and I am inspired to keep on this path to better health as well.
  • It's a holiday, like Christmas, and marks the beginning of the holiday season. Most people have family and friends over for a big turkey and ham dinner with stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, green beans:happy: and dessert is pumpkin pie, apple pie and assorted cakes. Depending on…
  • I've lost 18 lbs since we started. Hopefully, with the holidays coming, I can continue the downward trend and not gain any back with all the goodies.
  • Since starting the Christmas goal, I've lost 16.6 lbs. Yayyy! I have to keep on the path to better food choices and exercise to make it.
  • It also helps to log everything you eat. It keeps you accountable for all those hidden calories that sneek in during our routines. Try replacing one not so good food with a healthy choice, each week. It doesn't mean that you can't have any treats but that's what they are, a treat, and should not be a regular food item. It…
  • Good job, everyone! I am down 14lbs, since we started this Christmas goal. I haven't been as focused the last couple of days as I should be. I do well till dinner, but my family had a bbq and company the next day, so it was hard to resist all the yummy food. Just tried to watch the portions. Tomorrow's another day to get…
  • If I have to have something sweet, I get the dark chocolate hershey's kisses and eat 2 of them. It gives me the satisfaction of having something but small enough not to throw off my whole day.
  • you can click on a person and it will show their profile if it is public. You can click the add a friend button. It will send them an e-mail. If someone adds you, you will get an email. Accurate logging and making adjustments is the key to succeeding. good luck!
  • Think of today as a new beginning and make a few good choices and log everything. Each day that you log and make good choices will help you start feeling better about yourself. We all didn't become overweight in a day, and it is not going to come off in a day or a week, but in a week, you will start feeling better, if you…
  • yes, baby steps....and find something, besides eating to keep your hands busy...build a bird house or model cars, or take up a new hobby, like painting or cermaics. It is hard to eat if your hands are holding something else. Start slow and build up, one day at a time, make better choices with your food. For one day, cut…
  • Weighed in this morning and have lost 14 lbs. in 6 weeks.
  • great job! I totally agree with you - get rid of the bigger size clothes and move on!
  • I went to the dr.'s yesterday and was very apprehensive about how I was doing, since I don't have a scale. I have lost 11 lbs. in 4 weeks since joining MFP, and my blood pressure was down from 147/90 to 118/90. WOOOHOOO! The doctor was happy, as was I, but she reminded me that this is only the beginning of the journey to…
  • I weighed in at the dr.'s office today and I have lost 11 lbs. in 4 weeks. Hoping I can continue that downward trend all the way to Christmas.
  • Yes, I hear that familiar song...54, and in the same boat. I've been overweight for 20+ years and I'm tired off not feeling well, and the dr. telling me every single time that it is tied to my weight. So, here I go...again.
  • I want to go on an airplane and not feel like I'm imposing on someone else's seat. And avoid the dirty looks that go with it.
  • I didn't make very good snack choices this weekend due to going to a fund raiser...too many goodies there to resist. I did manage to keep it to 2 of the smallest sweet treats, but the guilt came within minutes of eating it. Need a strategy to avoid that huge pitfall in the future.
  • I am need of support and encouragement, too, as I am over 50 and my dr. has ordered me to lose 50-70 lbs. or risk surgery again.
  • The guilt after I eat fast food has helped me stay away from all of them for most of the time, but once a week, I let myself have a cheeseburger (no fires or soda) or a slice of Pizza, or 2 tacos. It helps me feel like I'm not deprived but I have to adjust my other meals to allow for the calories.
  • Love these...I really need them today!
  • I just joined MFP and need the motivation to start eating better and exercising more. I want to lose 20lbs. by Christmas so I can go shopping.
