  • Oh yea sorry didn't clarify. The chicken most recently used is Tysons precooked grilled skinless chicken breast. Has some flavoring in it and seems to fit in my calorie budget, not to mention dinner of chicken and brocolli takes 4 minutes from start to finish (4 oz of chicken 2 cups of broccoli, 1 teaspoon water, fresh…
  • I pretty much meet the nutritional goals stipulated by MFP. Natural peanut butter, chicken, turkey, whole grain breads, almonds, walnuts, oatmeal, and frozen vegatables is my main diet. I use craisins and dried appricots as my in between snacks (with almonds on occasion) which brings me to sugars... my sugar is always…
  • so would you say, for a non active guy that never worked out a day in his life and is 52 years old, my elliptical hill climb (it varies the rpms and resistance over timed intervals) and a few sets of hanging in the door stomach crunches (yes I bought that thing lol) would be a good start? I started february at 195 or so…
  • I do have a question about startvation mode. I have no reason to not believe it exists, however what I want to know is if I go hungry for a couple hours when does it set in, and how long after I eat does my body say "oh OK false alarm". I may be in a meeting at work that is a couple hours long and not have my almonds…
  • I found at first I was cheating myself, calling things like my walk to lunch "exercise". To me it is all math. If you reduce your calories to less than your resting metabolic rate you will eventually loose weight. A pound is 3500 calories, reduce by 500 a day and you loose a pound a week, 1000 and that is 2 pounds a week.…
  • I started this because My blood test had me with a bad cholesterol of 165 (total 223), high blood pressure, sugar, etc. I am 5' 9" and weighed around 195. I never thought I was "fat" but the Doctor pointed out my risk factors and said I was .1 from obese. I am 52 years old and have been raising my kids alone for 15 years (3…
  • Come on, mine wasn't all that bad ha ;-) I'm an engineer give me my math equations lol
  • Yes, your resting metabolic rate is about 14 x current weight. 1 pound equals about 3500 calories. Resting metabolic rate - 500 calories will loose you 1 pound a week, resting - 1000 is 2 pounds a week. don;t let your body go into starvation mode so you do have to eat to loose weight... eat your exercise calories so…
  • welcome... and always remember these key items that helped me.... 1 pound equals 3500 calories. your resting metabolic rate is your current weight times 14. You can theoretically eat that many calories and stay exactly where you are. a reduction of 500 calories a day from your resting metabolic calories will loose you 1…

  • I agree, I have a hard time pushing 300... the people that can rip out 500 - 1000 a day amaze me.
  • what I wish I could log is my 3 sets of stomach crunches I do throughout the day but they are strength and I do not have any idea how many cals that is.
  • I log my daily walk to lunch. Its usually 20 minutes and i walk fast. 35 cals is 35 cals. I also underestimate calorie intake. I do not log taking a shower.
  • did I mention I have no leg strength so your guys 60 minutes ellipticals sure seems out of reach for me lol plus I am only eating 1250 cals a day plus exercise calories. ;-)
  • same here, I was running indoors for 20 minutes (it is cold and rainy here in oregon) I felt like I was accomplishing calorie burn, and was surprised I could run that long after never running. I used MFP 12 minute mile (slow) and it said 223 calories or so. I hurt my knee so I bought an elliptical. I do 10 minutes on that…
  • I feel like a pig, I use (in one serving) 1 tablespoon brown sugar and 1/4 cup crushed walnuts (anti-oxidant) and a teasopoon of honey. 400 calories but I'm not hungry till lunchtime ha ;-)
  • Yes, small goals. One of my goals was to see if there was any "6 pack" left in my abdomen. Yesterday my son said, hey dad I think I see the some six pack showing... there was my motivation ;-)
  • I eat almonds because my doctor mentioned them as a good source of nutrition. I also add 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts in my oatmeal 2 - 3 times a week. They are high in anti-oxidants....
  • My calorie intake for my weight gain loss was based on my original weight and metabolic rate. When I went back into the tools menu it allowed me to reset all that original information and adjusted my calorie allowance down from 1280 to 1250 a day. Otherwaise I assume your weight loss rate would decrease over time.
  • I assume you have adjusted your calorie intake adjusting for the 50 lbs you already lost? I do mine every 10 lbs. also maybe change your type of exercise to attack a different set of muscles?? I'm new and no expert....

  • Mine was 1280 when I started at 192 lbs, when I reached 182 I readjusted to 1250 so I can maintain the rate of loss. Dr says I should weigh 155???? at 5' 9" 52 years old ha. When I reach 172 I will slowly raise to a sustain count of...... well I haven't figured that out yet but assume 1500 - 1600 cals (as long as I still…
  • nott an expert but i DID eat a pizza the other day and still managed to drop 1.2 lbs between weighins. from what I have read it is how fast your body breaks down the carbs. Complex carbs such as whole grains take longer and are not absorbed / turned into fat as fast as white bread. This being said, I do not believe a…
  • good job dude. I'm down 11 from 192. At 5' 9" Dr said I was at risk with high cholesterol, pressure, and sugar. By the way, take the after picture with a beer in hand too lol, maybe a bud ultra lite ;-) Keep up the good work.
  • I plateau in a different sense. I dropped from 192 to 183 as scheduled then I got stuck. I wasn't sure what happened but for 5 or so days I hovered. I read somewhere that you need to change it up. If you run at night change it up and run in the morniing. change your exercise pattern. So I did. Not sure how but the next day…
  • I cleared a path in my family room where i can run a tight oval. I estimate it as a slow jog (5mph). I do 10 min in one direction then 10 in the other. with music playing time goes fast. i get my pulse rate from 77 to 135 and my legs burn, and my core gets warm. I figure I have to be doing something. I started with 10…
  • i have been on this for about 10 days or so. i have hight everything in my blood, cholesterol, sugar, pressure.... i programmed an aggresive weight loss for 30 days of 2 lbs a week then i will dial it down to 1 lb a week until i am in the mid to high 160s then level calories to a sustain weight. so far this thing is…
