  • Right there with you. At my highest weight I was over 400, now I am sitting around 170 (it took 10 years, a lot of failure and some hard lessons, I only found MFP a year ago). Even though I spent years at 250, I think I will always see the 400 lb person I was. Just focus on something different rather than just weight loss.…
  • New study on diet soda - though granted I am sure there is a study that proves just the opposite as well, there is a study for everything. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/18/artificial-sweeteners-gut-bacteria_n_5837646.html I weened out additive sugars by trying to stay with whole fruits or naturally sweet items like…
  • I make overnight chocolate oatmeal - you can puree it (I add a little extra yogurt for more of a creamy texture) after it has chilled overnight and it is more like a chocolate pudding http://dashingdish.com/recipe/brownie-batter-overnight-protein-oatmeal/
  • Height: 5'10 415 was my highest - age 23 down to 300 up to 340 down to 190 up to 260 169 is my lowest - current age 36 150 is the goal... but the last 6 weeks I have just sort of hung out at the 169 mark, we will see what happens next month. :) This is the first time I learned how to eat though.... you would be amazed at…
  • Here are a few links to recipes I like. I tend to modify things a lot by reducing some of the butter , oil or cheese called for, or adding in veggies. I have found most recipes can be made a bit healthier just by making smart swaps (greek yogurt in place of sour cream and sometimes in place of mayo), reducing the sugar…
  • I make a berry smoothie that you may like, I freeze the fruit so that I don't need to add ice (though sometimes I do still). 4 oz pineapple juice 4 oz carrot or mango juice (depends on what I have) 1 oz raspberries 1 oz blueberries 1 oz banana 1/2 scoop protein powder (not required, I do it for the protein and to help…
  • Thanks, it has taken over a decade (with lots of breaks and moments of "good enough"), but lord help me, I am gonna get there! The thing I always use to wonder is "how" did I get that heavy, but now I look back on it, and eating 2 McDonalds sandwiches for breakfast and lunch probably wasn't helping me (spoonfuls of…
  • lol - too many to list. The biggest for me is that my security blanket is gone. At my heaviest I was 415, now at 180, it is harder to "hide" behind that physical barrier. Still have a little bit to go, but its odd to be considered "normal".
  • Game on, I am in!
  • I think everyone has a moment where they fall off the wagon per say. Don't stress about it, just start again. You are human, it happens, the key is to acknowledge that you stopped and start back up again. I can say for me that the "pudgy" feeling I get when I stop is mostly due to the poor quality of food I was eating.…
  • My biggest tip would be to pre-make a lot of meals. I do batch cooking on the weekends and split it up into 6 to 8 ounces portions (oatmeal, casseroles, chicken salad (with Greek Yogurt instead of Mayo)... so on and so on). That way there is something healthy and pre-measured available for you. Even when you still have to…
  • So, as a general rule, I never write any responses, because most people say the same things or know more than I do. With that being said, having lived a life of fast food and severe over-eating, I know how daunting all this "eat right" information is. The biggest, best investment (well after my crock-pot) I have made is a…
  • I make my own ranch with plain Greek yogurt (2 cups) add a packet of hidden valley ranch dry-mix and about a 1/4 cup of skim milk (just to get a pourable consistency). Just mix and use for dipping or on salads. You have to re-whip it sometimes, but it tastes great and a lot less calories. *edited typos*
