You were wise enough to provide us with this really important info, above. Plugging those numbers into this awesome calculator: http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr shows that you (as your body is telling you) just aren't eating nearly enough. That's easy to fix, isn't it? So you can do this! (For the sake of this…

Merely because I can pick up women (three at a time, even) is no reason for banning me. I'm on the road to FAME, not SHAME... [and because I know too few of you grew up with the same comic books I did: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/mando_gal/sets/72157600611052047 ]

I'm really, truly, honestly not expressing any opinion one way or the other about this claim (Fie upon the internet for its lack of body language expression), but as I was reading, all I could think of was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0HpROFEKfw

Yup, every day is a new day and yesterday doesn't matter -- just ease yourself back into your good, healthy eating habits again. Hope you're feeling better and better!

Fantastic! Now you know you can do it! I fought similar challenges with my doubtful, worried mind. My biggest progress has come when I've told my brain to shut the heck up and I've allowed my body to show what it can do. It sounds like that's exactly what you're doing -- you are off to a great start, and you're going to…

That Charles Atlas really knows how to pick up women!

What a fun day this was! About 500-600 people participated on a cool, rainy day -- far from the kind of weather I had been expecting, given the summer we've been having. I did the 4.8 miles in 47:51, which was faster than I had expected, and I had a BLAST! Next stop, the Turkey Trot at Hudson Mills Metropark on November…

DOH! Jinx, knittermom07! :)

and by the way, give yourself the credit you've earned already...you ARE a runner!
-
Congratulations, and GREAT job! Today was MY first race, too! It was a 4.8 mile run, and I did it in 47:51 -- which was much faster than I expected, and faster than any training run of a similar distance. It was sooooo muuuuch funnnnn!!

Absolutely -- rest days are _vital_ to building the muscles that you're ripping up on exercise days. They really aren't "rest" days, they are "rebuilding" days.
-
That's GREAT! Congratulations, and keep it up!

Whoo! And I'm going to check the registration site for my hometown marathon every week until it opens up. I'm going to run a HALF MARATHON, doggone it! And so are YOU! *lila and rob high-five one another while the Rocky theme song plays in the background*

Hey there! I'm a fairly new runner, running my first official race tomorrow, a 4.8 mile run, and I'm planning to do a 10k in October or November. There's a half-marathon back in my hometown next April that I've been considering, though it seems like such a long run....but THAT's why I joined this group! So maybe by posting…

Very familiar! and the funniest part to me was "I don't care, you pick."......"No"......."No"... Always drives me batty! "YOU SAID YOU DIDN'T CARE!" LOL!

Hi bymyslf892, The best answer is found in the topic "Newbies Please READ ME (2nd edition)" pinned to the top of the "General Diet and Weight Loss Help" forum. Be sure to take a look through that entire topic, but in particular, read this link:…

I'm a fairly new runner, having only gotten serious and regular with it over the last four months. I did C25K in the spring & summer of 2011, but then had an indirectly-related injury last fall that sidelined me for six months. I ran track for one year in high school because my friends were on the team, and HATED it. Not…

I've had several people become active again after having struggles for months, so I don't delete anyone I have had active conversations with, even if they go quiet for a few months. If they're having trouble, I'd rather be there for them when they come back.

Horse (in Paris) Alligator (lots of places in the South USA) Rabbit (with all those tiny little bones, it was waaaaaay more work than it was worth) Chicken Hearts & Gizzards Spaghetti Sauce Blue Cheese Blue Cheese was definitely the grossest....

I didn't mention it to anyone when I got started, truly because I was only doing it for myself and didn't want to feel like (or sound like) I was expecting any external motivation. As time went by, I got excited about how things were going and then it started slipping out in conversations with friends and family.

I'm running, and liking it. I ran track for one miserable year my freshman year in high school, because all my friends were doing it. I hated running, especially the longer runs. But not anymore...

Welcome! MFP does make it pretty easy to log food and exercise, and watch out...it can become addicting! :) The food tracker was a real eye-opener for me, too, letting me see exactly HOW that extra piece of cake, or that second sandwich at lunch was affecting me! Best wishes to you, it sounds to me like you are going to…

Dirt road. Well, not so much a preference as...that's all that is available around my house. But I definitely like it better than pavement or concrete. I was in Chicago a couple months ago and ran the hotel's outdoor rubberized running track. It was soft and cushy, and wow was it niiiice.

Running...in Las Vegas...in the summer. Dang. That IS gonna make it tougher, it's true. Make sure you're well hydrated and well-fueled. I don't know what your normal mileage and experience is like, running those distances in that heat. I'm going to assume that you have a decent running base already, and are just running…

Holy cow -- 21 pounds in 10-12 weeks! Actually, that's GREAT weight loss in that amount of time, especially without really being able to work out! Good job! Glad to hear you're healing up fine and can start working out again. Start up slow and careful, and there's no doubt you'll keep progressing until you hit that goal…
-
Go Michele! I just took a look at your ticker and, yah, I'm sure you can hit that goal in 10 weeks! What's your plan for getting there? Feel free to send me a friend request, if you're looking for a fellow Michigander to cheer you on! I've got about the same amount of weight to go, myself. Best wishes!
-
That's fantastic! I suffered an injury late last year that forced me out of my exercise routine for several months, so I know exactly how good it feels to get the go-ahead to get back into it! Welcome back to the track! :)
-
Hi! Glad to hear you're giving this another shot! And wow, you're signed up for TWO 5Ks -- you know how to build in some good motivation. Good for you! :) The rest days are really important for giving your running muscles a chance to recover and grow. On the rest days, you should either do no exercise, or do strength- or…

Hey Mike, Welcome! You're going to do great, and MFP will be a fantastic tool to track and motivate you. We 40- and 50-something guys should stick together, we're way outnumbered here, so send me a friend request if you like. :) Best wishes!
