  • Yay for you!

  • My hubby has arthritis in his knees and had to have surgery to remove a bone spur. His doctor told him that biking and swimming were the best exercises he could do. He also finds that the elliptical helps his knees a bit. If you're really concerned, go get your doc to check it out.
  • Print this out and give it to them. Or give it to the doctor. Sometimes it's hard to speak when you're nervous or anxious. This will tell them everything they need to know, and hopefully the doctor can help you. Hang in there.
  • Check out the Bolthouse Farms dressings (in the refrigerator section). They're really creamy and delicious, but they're made with yogurt, so they're lower cal than regular dressings. I have the honey mustard, and it rocks, and is only 45 cal. for 2 tbsp. They also have a ranch, bleu cheese, and others.
  • I've been losing an average of 1.25 lbs. / week, so, yes, it's possible. That said, you're at a pretty healthy weight, so it might not be possible for you to lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks. Good luck.
  • COFFEE!! I start the pot brewing, then hit the bathroom... then back to coffee and the computer while I'm waking up.
  • I haven't given up chips, but I don't buy them to keep at the house. I'll eat a single serve bag when I'm having a sandwich for lunch, or if I'm at a BBQ or something, I'll have a handful. Occasionally, I'll get a bag from a vending machine, but I try to keep snacks with me so that I'm not tempted. I don't "give things…
  • I usually wear New Balance sneaks, because I like their philosophies and the neutral grey colors. In the summer, I will wear my Keens (Newport or H2?), because they're sort-of sneakery and they let my feet breathe.
  • At the gym, I wear gym shorts, yoga pants, t-shirts with the necks cut out, a great sports bra, good sneaks... I have a few workout "outfits" like from Athleta / Under Armour, and I save those for yoga classes, tennis, golf... The gym at my uni. has a dress code of "athletic pants and a crewneck t-shirt that has not been…
  • P.S. You could try an excedrin when you feel the headache coming on... it's got a bit of caffeine in it.
  • Maybe try a few glasses of unsweetened iced tea, and then slowly wean yourself off. It's good for you to stay away from all the sugar, but giving up caffeine cold turkey is hell.
  • Congrats! I had the same NSV and it felt AWESOME! :)
  • Depends. In my immediate neighborhood, we all say hi and possibly chat for a minute. Further into the big city, it would be stupid and annoying to say hi to the 2,000 people I walk past... so I just look ahead and get my "zone out" face on. My dog is a conversation starter, though, so I find it hard to go anywhere without…
  • Straight-leg dark-wash jeans that sit about 2 inches below your belly-button. Trouser jeans rock. No tapered legs, no pleats, no acid wash, no jeans all the way up past your belly button.
  • Of course. We're both trying to lose weight together, and we're best friends. I'm not going to hide it from him, when we talk about it all the time. We're often taking turns on the scale first thing in the morning before showering.
  • I always take a bunch of Clif bars, apples, trail mix, wheat thins, choc. covered raisins, nuts, etc. when I'm traveling. That way, at least I've got breakfast and some healthy(ish) snacks in the hotel room and then can usually still do okay on lunch and dinner... as long as I don't get crazy with the fried foods or…
  • Wow, I love how the censors marked out "****'s." What if my name was ****?
  • Idealism is great, but what about the kids who would show up with no lunch?
  • But, you know what? There are areas of major cities where the residents don't have access to grocery stores, farmer's markets, or gardens. And no transportation to get to other parts of the city. How would you suggest those parents buy and pack lunches? From the meager offerings at the gas station? Or from McDs? There's…
  • Depends on your goals, your personality, your ability to get back on track... I'll be camping out on the beach with friends that weekend, and you can be damn sure I'm having some beers and dipping my crab in tons of butter.
  • Nice. Congrats on outshrinking your clothes.
  • Oh, and I forgot my Keens (Venice or H2?) make awesome athletic-y water-y shoes. I love to wear them when we do things like go tubing or picnic by the lake.
  • Short & round with a 22" waist? Ha. The average American woman's waist is something like 35". I was reading somewhere that only like 8% of women are hourglass shaped. Most are banana shaped (bust / waist / hips all about the same). I think it's offensive to imply that non-curvy women are somehow inferior to those with…
  • Oh, yeah, those are great, too. Or Tevas.
  • Birkenstocks makes some nice rubber gardening-type clogs with really good arch support. Those might work. Or some type of crocs. I'm a barefoot beach walker myself, but I'll use the other two above in a pinch.
  • And people with limited means don't love or care for their children? Please.
  • Because they're struggling to make ends meet. Many families don't have homes or refrigerators, or jobs... the children are receiving *free* meals at school. You are lucky to be able to provide well for your family. Others are struggling in different ways. It's not helpful to judge them based upon your own priorities.
  • Yes, it is happening all over, mostly b/c of FDA regs / big ag subsidies that make their foods cheap, and the amount of children who get free & reduced price lunch (which means the government is subsidizing almost 100% of breakfasts and lunches in some inner-city and rural schools). That means that the cafeterias are…
  • I always try to take Clif bars or such when I'm traveling. If you don't have those, you can find a Kind bar at a lot of Starbucks... it's fruit and nuts and less than 200 cals. with lots of vitamins and minerals. Also a fruit cup or a fruit smoothie, Have fun!
