  • Great post. I've been wanting to try this as I am going wheat free this month just to see what happens to my weight loss efforts. I will give these a try!
  • Thanks for all the info! Good stuff!
  • I understand your anger...I felt it too! For the past twenty years I ate only whole wheat 95% of the time with few exceptions during holidays etc. And then to read that book and realize I could have had a snickers bar and done less damage! I then thought about all the genetically altered food we are eating (veggies, meat,…
  • My observations in 20 years of running: - Someone always runs faster than me...always. - When running on country road in Europe, don't assume they won't run you over...they will (experienced this in Italy and France at different times. Truly a survival of the fittest experience). - When running in most placed in the world,…
  • highly recommend Polar F4. Highly recommend you AVOID Timex Ironman...piece of crap and almost twice the price.
  • Wow, you should be celebrating and patting yourself on the back! 10 pounds in this amount of time is real and clearly the result of your hard work. Great job!
  • First choice, dress#1- very flattering and shows a toned, shapely you! Second choice, dress # 3. Congrats on a job well done!
  • Absolutely...otherwise I would never date as most guys in my age range have been married at least once! Given the stats on marriages, the older you get, the harder it will be to find someone who hasn't been married! Although I did read a story that this generation (X/Y/Z?) is not bothering with marriage at all so it stands…
  • I find it helpful if you set little goals (like I am going to lose 5 pounds in 5 weeks) vs. I'm going to lose 30 lbs by July. That way you can see your progress sooner and that will movtivate you to the next five pounds. Good luck!
  • Wow, I think you look great! Definitely can see the muscles breaking out and taking over your body:>) And 12 lbs in one month! That is REALLY good. Keep up the hard work! Its showing!
  • That seems very high for just 65 minutes of aerobic activity. . I weigh 163 and my range is 145-155 most aerobic exercise. For running I burn about 500 an hour running an 10-11minute mile for biking 500=600 if I'm climbing hills and pushing a15-17 mile an hour pace. As someone said earlier, in time you will come to know…
  • An Au Bon Pain Red Velvet Cupcake is 350 calories so 1/4 of that is not bad at all! when I don't want to eat something sweet tempting to me I pretend the person who made it didn't realize her flour (whatever) had worms in it....works everytime.
  • This is why I stay away from as much of the processed foods as possible. They have so much loaded sugar! 21 grams of sugar for yogurt and cereal is WAY high. You might want to try oatmeal or something with less sugar. On a related note , a dear friend 83 years old was told she MAY be pre-diabetic and to cut back on sugar.…
  • If you are in a lot of pain, you are doing something wrong, either working out too hard (beyond your current ability) too long, or you are doing the movements wrong. You need to ease into it gradually and not try and do a marathon level workout the when you first start. For example, when I first started working out after a…
  • Wow, 1100-1200 calories a day seems really low. Is that what MFP calculated for you? I think you are not eating enough and your body is starting to hold on to everything that goes in your mouth as it thinks you are lost somewhere on the plains, starving. Good luck and don't give up! This is a journey to a strong and…
  • Eeck, this looks just like my kittie's catbox! No way could I eat this. What is it anyway?
  • Have you tried running intervals to begin increasing your endurance? That really helped me pick up my pace when I first started running. The idea is that you start out running at your regular pace, then you pick up the pace for 30 seconds, and then pick up the pace AGAIN for the next 30 seconds and then you sprint for the…
  • Last night, my sweet tooth kicked in so I had 1/3 of a sweet baked potato with a drizzle (1/8 tsp) of maple syrup. It did the trick! I also freeze fresh blueberries and then add them to 1/2 cup of fage nonfat yogurt a drizzle of vanilla, some stevia for sweetness and let it sit in the freezer for 5 minutes. Another yummy…
  • Dirty Bit - Black Eyed Peas SOS - Rhianna Rumor Has It - Adele Pepper - *kitten* Surfers (what a name!) Pink Cadillac - Bruce Springstein Mony Mony - Billy Idol Mercy - Duffy Johnny B. • I LOVE Whole Foods and shop there for all my fresh foods: meats, veggies, breads, dairy, etc. I save my other shopping for Trader Joes and Safeway (soaps, processed food, etc) and am able to stay in my budget. After reading Michael Pollan's book Food Rules and realizing how little Americans spend to eat "real food" (less…
  • First, one day is not got going to be the end of all your hard work so don't freak out or beat yourself up to much. Second, congratulations for the progress you have made to date! Clearly, you have it in you to go forward AND you will. One thing I would suggest is what was suggested to me when I found myself backsliding…
  • Ah, its hard not to let the scale get you down sometimes. When that happens I try and focus on the other "wins" in eating well and getting exercise. I love the fact that that I'm taking control over what goes in my mouth and even when I choose to eat something that is not as healthy as it could be, I still CHOOSE and I'm…
  • When I've donated blood at Stanford they have alway told me to avoid strenuous exercise the rest of the day so I wouild take it easy! Good luck!
  • Ok, eating in the bathroom sounds a bit upappetising to say the least! And yes, I think it is creepy to put cameras in a bathroom where people have the right to privacy. There really could be legal repercussions if this is a public restroom!
  • Welcome! I have been on MFP since January and it has really helped me to figure out how to eat for my body's needs.. It helps me be accountable for both my eating and my workouts. The support here is awesome, people know so alot about the business of getting healthy, but it really is all about the effort that you put into…
  • I worked with a nutritionist a few years back and she suggested that my first drink of the day should be gentle like warm water or decaf green tea to gently get the system started. I've been following this and it really works. Later in the morning I have my cup of coffee and sometimes if I'm sluggish, some green tea with…
  • I eat my exercise calories and it has made all the difference in the world. I had my resting metoboic rate tested and used that number for determining how many calories I should eat each day to lose 1 lb a week. Then if i exercise, I eat them and it is working! The water thing is huge as well. I've read to take your body…
  • This summer I achieved a longtime goal of being able to climb a rope (you remember those ropes in the gym in high school? Could never get up them). What helped me build the strentgh (via Crossfit and p90x) was pushups, pullups, military presses, overhead squats and CORE. Yes, I found out later my core played a bigger role…
