  • I do both, but the squat method seems to involve the core more and I am lot more tired when I do it. I vary by exercise actually.
  • Power clean to overhead press. Squats Bench Press
  • It has only happened to me a couple of times and it can mean you had a good hard workout. It can also mean you are pushing yourself too far and can hurt yourself if that natural "you should stop" mechanism is not there. I did it last week in fact, but not like a full Exorcist level pea soup spray, just a little blowback in…
  • I guess I should have started with "Breaking routine is the key here"
  • Routine is the key here. I was working out on the elliptical every morning at 5am for months and started sleepwalking through it literally and figuratively. Now I mix it up, I will still love 5am but get in a lunch workout now and then and a night work out fairly often as well to keep my body guessing and do all sorts of…
  • On the days I don't work out at 5am I don't eat breakfast. This means that I eat my last meal at around 7pm and do not eat again until noon the next day. This is a 17 hour fast and some of my filttest friends have this method as a keystone of their regiment, so I am trying it.
  • A small mixed field green salad with a half cup of low cal chicken salad, two hard boiled eggs, and a small cheddar cheese wedge. Dessert was a handful of low sodium blue diamond almonds.
  • Yes, beer is food for sure. My heritage is Irish and German so it is a food group.

  • I think running the bathroom all the time is good for you too in the form of short activity bursts. I drink around 90oz-100oz a day most days.
  • I have been sick since Saturday and missed my normal Saturday workout, Sunday was a day off, then I missed a hard Monday and my normal Tuesday workout. I did ride the recumbent bike at home for 25 minutes last night and did some stretching just to stay loose. I had a boot camp workout this morning and went to that even…
  • A friend of mine who runs marathons and does mixed martial arts and is in crazy shape says, "there are not bad foods, only bad portions."

  • Any thoughts on how the Fitbit compares? I can't figure out how it gets an accurate reading unless it is going purely by kinetic motion/steps. It doesn't track heart rate does it?

  • Thanks, that will probably do the trick.
  • You are right, I was not keeping up. I did try to eat myself to death when I was married, but I was also married 8 years and she was super skinny, also super crazy. This is where our stories differ it seems.
  • Good luck, the site has been very helpful to me so far. I would put it 3rd behind diet and exercise.

  • Okay for all the hard boiled egg people in this thread, how the hell long do you have to boil these to get them done? My granny always said 3 minutes, but that does not work. I like almonds, popcorn, and hummus for my usual snacks, I also eat oatmeal with peanut butter even for a late afternoon snack. My other trick is…
  • There is some new exercise machine that suggest you can work out for 15 minutes three times a week and do nothing else and end up losing 75-100 lbs in a year. Yeah, right.
  • It is hard to argue with this wisdom, especially the Carrot Top part, I think he may be a modern day prophet.
  • Agreed here, I just took a few days off logging my food which is good considering I did sample some of my son's Halloween candy (just to make sure it was safe of course.) I notice that some of the behaviors encouraged on this site can border on Obsessive Compulsive if taken to the extreme (like weighing your food in…
  • I use these Gold's gym kettle bells and have had great results with these videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS_LLBUo7iM&list=PL690FC3C9B73E73BC&index=7
  • The best analogy I heard was this. Look at a marathon runner. They are gaunt, very often with stringy muscle, and generally may not look all that healthy. Look at a sprinter, lean muscle and very toned. I was told to be the sprinter which is accomplished in this analogy through high intensity interval training not hours…
  • I bought a cheap stair stepper from Walmart when I was 270. It felt like standing on a pogo stick and bent and fell over the first time I used it. This was sad for fat me.
  • I am in San Antonio too 4jenniferk and you are right, that we don't usually have anything. We do have bellydancing classes I think, but I am not sure where. Some of my female friends took them.
  • I like to wear as little as possible, but apparently my gym, the people around me, and probably the police like me to be more fully clothed.
  • I was the kid who knew it all and never shut my mouth. Thank goodness I grew out of that! :)
  • I have a colleague whose kidney's shut down with pre workout supplements being at least part of the reason.
  • I actually agree with robin52077 here, I was kidding a bit with my sales slant above, thus the smiley. I have a friend who is training fora triathlon and he currently eats around 4,500 calories a day just to maintain and has been actually dropping regardless.
  • It sounds like they are giving you more calories to be able to sell you more of their stuff :) I am in Sales, so it slants the way I look at the world.
