  • Focus on what you have achieved, and be happy with the progress you are making. A lot of people get a bit out of shape, not everyone makes the effort to do something, as you are. Take satisfaction in the progress you are making, set small personal targets, and celebrate as you reach them. Other peoples opinion matters…
  • Don't beat yourself up. Slow weight loss is the best way, and you are more likely to keep it off. If the trend is downward, be happy and stay with it! Well done, David
  • A lot of people say we put on fat at the waist first and lose it last. I hope that's true, because I dropped from 198 to 171 lbs over a year and have so far lost nothing from my waist either. It is a bit frustrating!
  • Are you okay on your vitamin and mineral levels? This can sometimes be neglected when dieting. I would include a reasonable portion of a craved substance into my calorie allowance, if it became too distracting. Best wishes for the final seven pounds ;) Oh, and my cravings are around alcohol. When I'm tired I sometimes give…
  • Congrats! I would keep those pics close as a great motivational aid for the rest of your journey. You look great! rgds, David
  • I wear mine as a watch when not exercising with the chest strap on. In the gym the chest sensor sends a signal to most modern equipment and the display will show your heart rate. I'm on my second, after wearing out my first one over several years
  • I have been through this. In and out of hospital, including the psychiatric unit. Professional counselling does help, and it's free here. However, also, you really have to want to get out of the situation yourself. It takes a degree of self-motivation, and as you wrote this thread, you still have some. Exercise boosts the…
  • Hi Terri, I live in the UK, at Holyhead in North Wales. Been back here 3 weeks and lost 8 lbs so far. Looking to lose another 17 lb or so. I exercise every day, mostly walking/jogging. Add me by all means. Always a pleasure to meet other committed MFP regulars! Regards, David

  • Drink more water, it's a fact that most people mistake thirst for hunger. More water will help suppress appetite. Six smaller meals a day is another method if you haven't tried it. good luck!
  • Hi Courtney! I don't believe fat loss can be area specific, but I'm sure you can still tone those areas that bother you! Been back on here 15 days, and lost 4.3 lb so far. Always happy to meet new friends. Living at Holyhead, North Wales with the family, and aiming to lose 25 lbs. Not sure when thanksgiving is, but you…
  • Between 90 and 180 minutes usually. I walk my dogs across country twice a day, which is about an hour, then I do something myself, which is normally either a 3.5 mile or 5-mile road circuit round country lanes. Can't run it all yet so I walk and jog in intervals. I am out every day... I have the time as I am not in…
  • The occasional binge isn't so bad, so long as it's just that! Have you tried varying your workout routine? How about introducing more cardio for a couple of weeks or so - see if it helps... best of luck hitting your target rgds, David
  • The MFP system works pretty well generally, but it's no bad thing to have, say one day a week off. If that includes food and or drink you don't have normally, why not! Personally I love wine, but find it hard to stick with one day a week, so for now I am abstaining until I reach my goal, then will reassess things. Best of…
  • Free workouts! IE: for me that means walking or jogging. I live on the edge of a small town so the countryside starts 100 yards away...
  • Hi Natasha, just read your post. I don't do diet food. However, I do try and earn what I eat through exercise. Never had a 'protein shake' in my life they sound ghastly! I refuse to eat anything I don't like. My 2 Jack Russells get me out twice a day, and I try and get out for another walk on my own inbetween. Was aiming…
  • Hi Tracy, I am at Holyhead, North Wales. Always interested in new friends on here... rgds, David
  • Hi, I'm also a returning member who stupidly closed his MFP account last year and tried to go it alone. Failed and gained weight. Been back 5 days, and here for the duration. Initial goal to lose 25 lbs, and 1lb gone already! I am more of a binge drinker, which leads to unhealthy eating at the wrong times of day/night.…
  • Hi HA!, I'm returning after a break from MFP, in which I gained weight. Day five today, and 1lb down already, in a drive to lose 25lbs. I try to exercise every day, not hard as I have 2 dogs that have to go out rain or shine. Living in Holyhead, North Wales. Happy to be a MFP buddy, and maybe give one another a bit of…
  • Hi PBA! I am a newly returning member on here, this is day 5. I want to lose 25lbs, in fact that's now 24 lbs as I lost 1lb since Wednesday :) I am a bit older than you but happy to become a MFP buddy to help one another towards our fitness goals. My downfall has been alcohol. I had a stressful job, and would come home and…
  • Hi Funkster! I exercise every day, some days just cross-countyy with my dogs but mostly more. I generally try and break the 1000 calorie barrier daily through exercise (mostly walking and jogging). I'm 51, living in Holyhead, North Wales. I just returned to MFP after a break going it alone, which did not work well... add…
  • Hi Cynthia, I'm 51, and a returning member to MFP after a few months trying to manage on my own (mistake) I would be delighted to become a friend on here, and to share the ups and downs on our journey to a healthier lifestyle. I live with my family in Holyhead, North Wales. Best regards, David
  • Well done on your progress so far! I am just returning after a spell away from MFP, so looking for friends myself! Please add me if you want. I live in North Wales UK, at Holyhead, where the ferries to Ireland run from... Looking to lose about 25lbs... Regards, David
