Im at the laundromat... currently 6 adults here and some kids. I am the only person wearing a mask over my nose and mouth. This is part of why this keeps going.

Not every vaccine, but if you go back a few pages, at least one of them was described that was by the CEO. IIRC, another was also said to be that by the manufacturer.
-
Neat idea, but the vaccine does not prevent people from getting and spreading the virus. They just don't get sick from it.... they become asymptomatic carriers, essentially.

Same for me as a type 1 diabetic. I believe I'm at higher risk, but who actually gets to make that decision?! Doctors disagree... but to be fair, I've met a lot of doctors who don't understand the differences and that lack of understanding will lead many to conclude that type 1's are not at an increased risk.

Not necessarily. It could be that you use glycogen or convert lean tissue to glucose for use. But I'm not sure you would be able to tell these things very well (or how much lean glycogen and lean tissue you used vs. body fat) with a CGM.
-
I've been using CGM's for more than a decade, but I'm a type 1 diabetic. The data is probably interesting, but not sure what you would do with it if not diabetic. Also, is it interesting enough to be worth the cost? As someone pointed out, insurance usually isn't paying for it (which makes it expensive up front for the…

I think you are talking about Grif Grips (the "sticker" to put over it).

Not only is it difficult or impossible to enforce because of logistics, but a legal argument can be made because the U.S. Constitution allows us to "travel unmolested amongst the several states" (something like that... I didn't look it up, just going from memory). How well that legal argument stands up in court, though, I…

I heard on NPR that there is a concern that decreases in cases will result because of holiday testing and lab closures. The expectation is that there will be a temporary decrease in new cases reported and some may incorrectly see that as a sign that the spread is decreasing.

I had a chest freezer when I owned a house in Iowa, but left that with the house along with other appliance since I was going to renting here in Tennessee. There, I would often buy large quantities of meat when it was on sale and then not when it wasn't on sale. I also would hunt / fish and have a little bit of food from…

This is a good point. My grandparents were depression-era kids and they keep and hoard absolutely everything from magazines to plastic containers (and glass, of course). In fact, I have seen them rinse and re-use paper cups from fast food for days on end. My grandpa died in April and my grandma is in a nursing home now.…

People were just buying up all the TP as soon as it got to stores, so many of us never could find any because others bought it before we had a chance. Fortunately, I have a ton of leftovwr turkey because I got an almost 20 lb. turkey for Thanksgiving and live alone. Granted, I don't eat plants, but this is several days…

I'm at the laundromat and am the only person here in compliance with the county mask mandate. To be fair, half the people here can't figure out how to wear pants. Maybe masks are truly too much to ask.

@ReenieHJ When my mom tested positive, it was a similar situation... she had mild symptoms, if any, and they said 10 days from symptoms also. I would say always wear a mask and use sanitizer frequently, and avoid going anywhere you don't need to go. If your mask has space to do so, you could fold up a coffee filter (like…

That is good to know. Perhaps he could come up with guidelines for capacity limits based on building size and setup. Or just keep it simple and require masks and 6 ft. of distance for those not in the same household. Then each house of worship would need to figure out how to space seating appropriately to comply.

If you go back a page or 2, I think it was here that there was an article posted yesterday from the Moderna CEO explaining that their vaccine allows for shedding of the virus.
-
Yes, that makes sense. Honestly, if the vaccine will make me as sick as Covid would make me, then why get the vaccine?! But if the only complaint against it is that getting the vaccine means we still wear masks and distance until most everyone has had a chamce to get vaccinated, then I am getting it.

I figure nothing is guaranteed in the next year anyway. I could get hit by a car while running and not survive until next Thanksgiving. That is true most years and I still stay home by myself (and my cat, Midnight) for most holidays... or use the day off to go hiking, running, etc. somewhere else, but still by myself.…

I've been quiet this month, but have 69.26 miles for Nov. I can't even remember if I set a goal this month... not that it matters, I guess. It's been a very stressful month so far and doesn't look like it is getting any better any time soon. It doesn't snow here, but maybe it rains at some point... to adapt from Charlie…

Someone should make indoor litter boxes for dogs... like a big un-covered litter box with a fire hydrant in the corner or something. ETA: I checked Amazon and apparently was not even close to the first person to come up with this idea. There are lots of options.

A nurse I know that works in a Covid unit recently mentioned that she can always tell when a new Covid patient comes in whether they will survive or not. She's guessed wrong only once. When asked how she can tell, her response was:

I lived in Iowa my entire life until 2019 and still know a lot of people there. To say it is really bad there right now is an understatement. However, I will point out that there is 1 county at less than 10% positivity for the most recent 7 days of data reported (Wed Jan 22 2020 - Thu Nov 19 2020). Lucas County is at 7.87%…

I use Garmin Connect and sync as well, but haven't noticed any issues.

40% of the workers at the plant where I last worked in Iowa are out because they are sick or exposed. Some exposed people are still working, but not sure how they are determining this. Another co-worker (in Indiana) just cut a meeting (online) short to take his daughter to the ER for a severe Covid case. Several of my…

Yikes! I think I would be walking around with a can of disinfectant spray and just spraying everything... light switches, cupboard handles, sink handles, doorknobs, etc.

It sounds like part of it is just simply a lack of enforcement, but I also am guessing part of it is a lack of ability to enforce. Everyone would just show up to court and say, "How did you measure that distance between me and the other person?" And they would win because how can the police defend that? By eliminating the…

Meanwhile, there are parts of the US with no mask requirements at all still or they are not enforced nor followed anyway. One of the manufacturing plants I support (remotely) has about 15% of its employees out right now either because they have tested positive, have symptoms, or have recent exposure (this is a small part…

I don't think that is it. It looks like he is cutting this piece of metal and didn't have a bench to set it on while he cut it, so opted to set it down on top of this propane cabinet. I don't think it is attached to anything presently.
-
Nah, welders don't need masks... That's just big government forcing people to stay alive and not injured! (sarcasm) ETA: I realize this guy is cutting, not welding... still probably should be wearing some safety goggles and probably doing this in a location slightly further from the propane.
