I hear this misquoted all the time. The first problem is most people (doctors included, it seems), have simply been reading one particular higher profile editorial written about the underlying studies, without reading the underlying studies. Second, the studies examined whether vitamins would help prevent chronic disease…

It varies from day to day, but I range from 800-1500 (figure average is around 1200) calorie deficit per day over the past six months, which has allowed me to drop 65 pounds. Now that I am within about 25 pounds of how much fat I have to lose to be what I consider pretty lean, I'm cutting that deficit down to around 500…

If I see one more post about how if you consume more than 50g or 70g, or whatever, of protein a day, you are going to die or some such nonsense the veins in my neck are going to explode. bodybuilders, strength athletes, football players, and just generally big, muscular people have been consuming good doses of protein for…

I was squarely in the Obese range when I started my journey (but like a lot of people, never considered myself Obese). Now I am squarely in the BMI Overweight range, and should be down to the top of the "normal" range in a couple of months. Feel free to add me to any group.…

This. I have a goal bf%, and simply work back to that. That being said, when I reach that bf%, I will likely want to add some more muscle. But for me, getting as lean as I want to be is the first priority.

Because meat is the best? :-) OP: I don't track total carbs, just net carbs, and average around 25 net carbs per day.

Congrats!!! Breaking the big 2 bills is big.

Great work!! I am so fortunate to be around other driven individuals who are well on their way to their goals.
-
Amen. I consume at least that much. Still continuing on my path of 2-3 pounds of weight loss each and every week.

I have natural peanut butter every single day, and LOOVVVVEEE it. Also...Not *every* day, but I have had bacon for 29 of the last 30 days :-)

As already noted, your carb intake is likely too high. As for fat/protein levels, that is an individual preference and what your individual needs are. A lot of the keto folks go with 65% fat, 25% protein type of breakdown, whereas I am more like 55% fat/35-40% protein. Just stay away from the tortillas, IMHO. If you need…

Here you go :-)

Good catch :-) I accidentally took the photo from the other side this morning, and because I wanted to face the same direction in the sequence, I flipped the image :-)

Agree on the deficit part, and for me (and I think many others), it is very easy for me to maintain a deficit on a very low carb diet because I am just not hungry. In fact, I think I would be ill if I consumed more calories than my TDEE.

Ignore the naysayers. I just posted my before and after pics of losing 45 pounds over the course of the last 16-17 weeks in the success stories forum. About 80% of the period has been pure keto (typically around 55-60% fat, 45% protein, and 5-10% carbs, and the other 20% a bit higher carb (~20%). I am trying to…

Once again, very good advice by Kira. Personally, I am operating at a pretty hefty calorie deficit (after exercise) and am trying to perserve my LBM, so I pay particular attention to consuming enough protein. Although I am in keto, I consume a higher percentage of fat vs. protein that most of the keto folks around here due…

Going on 20 straight days with real bacon for breakfast. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Click on the Food tab, then Settings. You are allowed 5 things to show in your diary (although everything is tracked), but you can change them up however you want. I don't need to track Sodium, so I added Fiber to my five tracking values.

<10g/day

Agree 100%, but it obviously depends on the individual. I was basically addicted to regular soda/pop pre-July of this year. I have switched to zero calorie pop, typically Diet Mountain Dew...and I admit that I drink fairly copious amounts of it. But, at least for me, it does absolutely nothing to increase hunger. In fact,…

I am definitely in. Need to get into bathing suit condition by February!

I can't really see what you eat on a daily basis as your daily diary is pretty bare with all of those quick added calories ;-)...but what is your typical macro breakdown? My experience is that when I eat carb heavy I do not get satieted, and just eat and eat. With higher fat, I get full so easily. In fact, I now pretty…

That tdee seems low considering your BMR, even if at sedentary. Really, like any movement at all (i.e., going to the bathroom, eating your food) really bumps up the tdee.

Yea, the scales that measure bodyfat% are more or less a joke, although they do show trending over time. Over the course of 24 hours, my BF% varies up to 8% on the scale. As a male who gains most of his fat around the midsection, I simply measure my waist measurement on basically a daily basis (empty stomach, first thing…

I don't really have a tracking solution for you, although I am in the same boat. I use a Foreman Grill for my bacon and the amount of fat, etc. that ends up in the collecting tray is crazy. But, I have to say, that is some caloric dense bacon you are eating! The bacon I get from WholeFoods is 22.5 calories/ slice. Even the…

For Thanksgiving, I am visiting my best friend's family and having Thanksgiving with them. I have met my friend's mother before, but that is it. I don't plan to consume 5k calories or whatever, but so as to not appear like a disrespectful guest, or too odd, I will be having the traditional Thanksgiving food, including the…

Why not join the low carb or keto groups and check out people's food diaries? I am under 20 net carbs every day.

Friend request sent. I am down 35 pounds since July on low carb, and been in ketosis for ~8 weeks of it. Macro intake is pretty much always in the 55-60% Fat / 30-35% Protein / 5-10% Carb area.
