  • So here's an update. I tried very hard to tighten my core and not lean on the handlebars at all - did a 1 hour and 10 min ride today and almost completely avoided any tingling - so that does seem to help a lot. Granted it makes it MUCH harder to ride but obviously it's better for me. Thanks again for all the input.
  • Thanks for all the great info - I do have gloves with gel padding but I think I'll go down and get a fitting. and yes I do lean heavily but I've tried to really focus on not doing that it doesn't seem to change much when I do though.
  • It's a 34 min ride - combining forest trails and road. I figured that MMR number must be wildly off. One of these days I really need to get me a HRM. Preferring to err on the conservative side I'll just go with what MFP says - when I averaged out all the online calculator numbers - it comes in around 550.
  • Tried about 5 different ones online - got 5 different numbers - all below the MMR one and most above the MFP one (gaaaa!)
  • Interesting thread... as a very hairy guy (easily grew a full beard in grade 10 and garnered the nickname 'Grizz' - perks: great for not getting carded ;) ) I have to say it's a blessing and a curse. Itches like hell and with some shirts can actually get painful near the belt line. Personally I don't like it and would…
  • Just the one dog - Lucy, inherited from our next door neighbours after they both passed away (they had been married 68 years!) - and I have some great HD video of her: She was abused when she was young and this wonderful couple turned her life around. So happy to have her with us now. http://youtu.be/u-YF26g4scQ
  • I've never put cream in - I always put coffee (the caffeine tenderizes the meat and it makes for an amazing roast) adds 0 sugar - 0 sodium so it gives great control over the entire thing. I just add garlic mushrooms onion and spices. Funny you asked this - I'm planning on cooking this exact thing today. Psychic much?
  • Used to watch it ever day before school in grade 4,5 and 6 burned through several VHS tapes. I lost count after seeing it 600 times. Most recently I watched the entire 6 movies about 3 months ago but eager to see them again on our redesigned 1080p cinema room. Ich Bin Ein Geek!
  • I used to HATE oatmeal - so I was off it for years - but I tried it again recently and didn't find it that bad - tastes change. That changing aspect is pretty important to keep in mind. - you can train your tastes too. I now quite enjoy rolled oats cooked in water with absolutely nothing at all on them. My tastes have…
  • Happy Birthday from British Columbia Canada
  • I'm currently trying the eat more approach too - also based on the advice of others, while it hasn't been long enough to see an effect I'm not gaining either - so I'd through in my vote for trying it too.
  • Running kills my knees - and with a huge forested park right behind my house I needed to do something so yes I'm walking - I kinda power walk it - but it's still walking. I can only fit in about 30 mins (at best 45) a day - it's working for me, nothing staggeringly fast but it works. I combine that with other exercise ever…
  • Similar to @Huffdogg - I do what I want as long as it fits within my goals. Also favoring Guiness and Single Malt when I can afford it.
  • Didn't have this problem exactly, I was fine running/walking but I was getting bouts of extreme nausea about 15-20 mins after I woke up every morning. I jumped back into eating a few more carbs (namely rolled oats for breakfast) and the nausea has vanished - unfortunately so has the weight loss... I'm still trying to sort…
  • Welcome Jack - yes indeed go like gangbusters! There is lots of friendly support and some really great advice here - hope you have fun with it!

  • At 30 something that makes me an oldschool geek? Here to bond with my other health-conscious technology-aficionados.
  • There are LOADS of helpful supporting people here - you're in for a treat and probably a LOT of friend requests!
  • Yes - as someone with absolutely no will power - I have completely and forever changed my eating to not eat things like this - ever - period. That's much easier for me then trying to do anything else. Pretty much given up Chips, Soda (not that I ever drank it much anyway), Bread, Potatoes, Rice, etc... Many say you don't…
  • Never had time, money, or inclination for a Gym... totally unnecessary IMHO as well. Walk from home is a great one - I work at home and have NO time - so I workout all day when I can - IF I want a coffee - I must do 60 push up or a 2min plank or something. I do aprox 30 min walking each day - or mow the lawn - or walk to…
  • if it's normal activity that would be taken into account by your choice of lifestyle so no I wouldn't count that.
  • As a coffee fanatic I don't entirely care (grins) I'll drink my coffee regardless! ...but I did recently read a study that showed if you eat any sort of fatty food like fries or a doughnut then a coffee with that will make it much much worse. not the orig link but it explains it:…

  • Welcome to you both - don't worry about posting - we're all here to help and be friendly as we jointly travel down this journey.
  • Try "Holy Crap" yes honestly that's the name. http://holycrap.ca/ best I have ever seen - although any breakfast cereal will always put me over so I avoid them like the plague.
  • After I stop laughing about that crazy ewok gif... Regaining that portion of my closet I used to fit into! Less Lower Back pain (hopefully)
  • Welcome - and I'm sure you will - great community here - lots of help, encouragement, and advice - so go for it! and you'll surely get any help you need!
  • I can't remember the deadline but there is legislation coming in here in BC Canada that will require all public eating establishments to include the nutritional info for everything on their menu - all the establishments are up in arms about it - but I think it's a great thing!
  • Thanks everyone - This is a bunch of GREAT ideas!!! I tried the plank already (as I sit here sipping a coffee) managed to hold it for 1:20 so I have some work to do there - but man did I feel it - this is near in perfect for what I was looking for. I should have mentioned the exercise ball - I may try that again but I…
  • Glad to hear you have weathered the storm... should be clear sailing ahead now - and yes lots of people and information here to help make it not only successful but fun!
  • It really depends on you - your schedule and your body... For me (for example) I eat a very consistent "set" of foods - because it's easier for me to shop and maintain that way - I always know what ingredients I need. Also for me if I EVER ate oatmeal I'd gain like crazy (carbs & me = not good friends!) so it all depends.…
