33% of our country is obese, but only 8.3% of the population has type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is more prevalent in the obese, BUT most obese people do not have diabetes. Also, thin people can have type 2 diabetes as well. Conclusion-- You don't eat your way to diabetes. It's much more complex than that. We all with…

Considering 1 out of 3 type 2 diabetics are undiagnosed, it's likely there are many "normal" weight people that are missed. Obese people automatically get screened for it.
-
Well, I work in a nursing home and I see a fair share. You can google percentages if you want, I don't have a number for you. It's definitely common. http://chriskresser.com/think-skinny-people-dont-get-type-2-diabetes-think-again

Ummmmm.......no, it's not that rare. There are plenty of type 2 diabetics that are not obese.

I adore chocolate! Chocolate is definitely a part of my new lifestyle. That said, I find I lack sufficient self control with standard milk chocolate, like a snickers bar. That would have to be a very rare treat for me and I'd probably tell my husband to hide the bag lol. But, I can moderate the extremely dark 86% cacao…

^^ This. Great to see extended nursing on here. :-)

Your dedication and persistence paid off. You look fantastic. Congrats on your success!
-
This is so inspiring to me. Congratulations on all your success and I wish you the best on your journey of health and fitness!

Only about two weeks tracking so far, but yes, it is helping a lot. :-)

Thanks everyone. I decided not to put it in the red clam sauce because I wanted everyone to eat it. lol I've only ever had squid fried. I did open the can and try a bite or two. It was different, but not bad. I would like to someday try fresh to see the difference. I'll save it and see what I can do with it this weekend.

Good points here as well.

I completely agree. And, the language you use shows were you are at in your commitment to the lifestyle change. :flowerforyou:
-
Thank you! Great progress for you-- almost half way there! :-)
-
Thank you. And, congrats on your success so far! :-)

You can add me as a friend. I have about 140 pounds to lose and I am going to succeed. No doubts.

Amazing progress! Congratulations!!

They are a higher GI fruit and a bit higher in calories. If you are insulin resistant or pre-diabetic, you have to watch how they impact your blood sugar. Paired with protein and/or fat like nut butters or eggs, they are okay for me. Bananas have great nutrients and I still find a way to include them with my insulin…

They are awesome.

Also there's an error on the entry for lunch. The Better Oats Oat Fit with Flax (Maple & Brown Sugar) is listed as 0 carbs on your diary, but online info says 18 carbs, 3 being fiber. So frustrating when MFP data base is inaccurate. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know if that is a staple of your diet, the macros are…

Looking at your diary, I noticed your profile mentioned pre-diabetic. If so, I'd switch your breakfast from cereal with non-fat milk (high in carbs, not great in protein and low in fat) to something like a veggie omelet with cheese. It will keep you full longer due to high protein and good fats, and new research shows no…

This is an excellent idea! :-)

I would call it a tone of superiority and mocking....

OP quote at beginning of thread " I have such a hard time getting any control over my snacking habits" Snacking too much Hard time controlling. Hmmmm..... I don't think I misread anything.
-
I will never understand this thinking. Having a treat is fine. We all do it. By why not encourage people toward health, especially on a "snacking too much" thread. Meaning-- hey, I might be overdoing it and I need to control it. Perhaps I should make better choices??" This wasn't a "OMG it's my birthday, should I have Kale…
-
Even my 3 year old knows kale, "greens" are healthier than cake (essentially what a ding dong is, right?) Why argue this point????
-
Unbelievable. If I didn't know better, I would say MFP is a super secret "fat acceptance" group to sabotage innocent people looking to lose weight and improve their health. I've been off and on diets for DECADES and all of them allow for an occasional splurge or treat. No biggie. But, some of your pot stirrers walk around…
-
If sugar isn't a problem for you personally, feel free to move along. OP, I can relate. It is a constant struggle. Abstaining from the worst offenders, keeping the junk out of the house, and eating real whole foods, with enough fats and proteins can help. Hang in there-- it can be overcome! I can't wait to post my success…

Running is just not some people's cup of tea. I agree with the above poster-- do you like other exercises? Swimming, spinning, step aerobics, etc.? If so, then do those. There's no law that says you have to run to be fit.

It could be a cautionary tale (!) Sorry, I'm morbidly obese..... ignore me. Carry on.
