Come on Pandora... It's softball season, take a swing at it! My question was probably too specific. I am mostly just wondering how critical it is to match push vs pull exercises and what the potential impacts are if you're stronger at one type of exercise than another.

Checking in for an update. I'm in my third week of a new round. For the most part, all is well. I have been disappointed with my bench press as I'm only lifting 50% of my earlier level. It doesn't feel too heavy but control is less than perfect with a little wavering on the right side with the impinged shoulder. My PT…

Thanks for sharing your story and perspective paprad! I especially enjoyed this comment: "so while the going is slow, at least it is still going!". An awesome thought! :flowerforyou: I wish you the very best in your future! I visited my DPT this afternoon and she gave me an early Christmas present. She cleared me for…

Thank you for your encouraging thoughts karindiane! You'd make a great coach!!! :flowerforyou: Congratulations on your successes! It is very humbling that I can't do a "beginner" program. But, I need to get past that and focus on doing what works and is right for me given my strengths and limitations. My DPT has and will…

Thanks for your reply Pandora! I should have worded my last sentence more carefully... I really liked the All pro routine and was very disappointed when the injuries occurred... I guess I have to own up and recognize most beginner programs are developed for younger more fit individuals. As a recovering 59 yr old couch…

Sara, I was hoping you would reply! :) I used a barbell for everything except squats where I did two sets of bodyweight squats followed by two sets of goblet squats w/ a 25 pound dumbbell. The shoulder issue was evident doing the military press (right arm being weaker than left, causing bad form). I have arthritic knees…

Just a quick follow-up, my GP diagnosed DR during my annual wellness exam last July. Basically just said you have DR, can't be fixed, don't do crunches or similar abdominal exercises as they make it worse... I hadn't done crunches in years so that was easy advice to follow but obviously doesn't help resolve the issue or…

jasonheyd and jimmmer, Thanks for hanging in there! :) I should give you complete details. I'm a 59 yr old, 6'2" male that weighs 288 lbs. I have arthritis in both knees and some spinal stenosis in my lower lumbar vertebrae. I also knee surgery (large menicus tear in the right knee) that was not completely rehabbed. The PT…

Thanks for the tips! Weird that I can't get stretch on the hamstrings though... I am a recovering couch potato and lack overall flexibility. For example when I first started the all pro routine, I was very uncomfortable doing a bodyweight squat much less with a bar on my shoulders. I have worked on flexibility and now I do…

Sara, I decided to kick SLDL's to the curb and try RDL's in it's place. Much better! It's a great exercise and I seem to do it well at the start so no need to post a video. Thanks for the suggestion!
-
Sara, tomorrow is a lift day. I try to make a capture and upload youtube. Or is there a better site to post videos? thanks! :)
-
Thanks for the all thoughtful replies! I was able to find an excellent video that demonstrated various BW squats, see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3ux1w1xiPE The gentleman has great form but don't think I'll be able to do the sideways squats, see starting at: 1:05 LOL! Doesn't he look too tall for the room he's in?…

Starkiller, could you flesh out the reasons for why the group was closed? What was expected of group members? I was participating in the weekly weigh-in worksheet but didn't post in other threads. I'm still a relative newbie and am taking in information rather than offering knowledge to others.
-
Nope, I can't find the thread for the worksheet or for the group...

Thanks for posting! It is a excellent beginner program that is worth a look for those considering an exercise program, particularly a recovering couch potato like me!

Thanks Brian! I misread when I first looked, it is compatible with the H7. Good to know the phone app will work!
-
Thanks! I'll probably need to buy a new transmitter as well. I just checked and the H7 is not compatible with an Ipod gen 5. :grumble: I'm the right track though, thanks again! :grumble: :grumble: Geez, I need to take reading comp classes, it is compatible with ipod touch gen 5. :drinker: Thanks for the report Brian!…

bump, anyone have experience?

Great, thanks! I assumed that negative calories would be flagged as an error. I'll weigh the drippings next time and subtract it out.
-
How would I subtract it from the recipe? Make my own jennie-O ground turkey with a lower fat content or is there another way?
-
Awesome job, Stacy! You look great! Thanks for sharing your story! One of the takehomes from your story is find what works and keep working it. Turbo fire worked terrific for you and certainly worthy of consideration by others.

See the link below for a woman's results over 100 days. She clearly was successful in her weight loss with decreases in body measurements, decrease % fat with calipers, and decrease % fat with BIA measurement. The loss is also very apparent in her pictures. Interesting that she smiles wearing blue but not red...…
-
For me, the Omron handheld BIA and army calculator are similar at 35% BF. The fat2fit calculator has me at 32.9%. Pretty close agreement and no, the tech at the gym would die laughing if I asked for a caliper measurement.... Karindiane, many of us do use the calculators/BIA devices for a general estimate of body…

I'd like to join! I'm a 59 yr old male. Weigh 295 lbs, goal weight is 220 pounds. Shooting for 2 lbs/week loss.

I measure weight after cooking and track intake by using the USDA nutrient content for that particular cooked meat in MFP. I like to grill 5 to 10 pounds of chicken at one time and then package + freeze in 6 oz lots. My wife uses the chicken on salads and I use it as my main course meat at lunch or dinner.

+1 I like the taste of Body Fortress Advanced Whey Protein-Vanilla flavor. Mixes well in milk, never tried it in water.

Awesome suggestions! Thanks everyone! Will try your suggestions this weekend!

Which burns more calories: a) walking on a treadmill while holding on or b) not walking? Pretty simple choice in my book. I pay the price if I get injured and I do what can do. Sorry if you think its not enough. The people that know me and care are thrilled that I have started an exercise program. No offense but their…

When I was a younger man, I often wondered why the older people do the things they do. Now that I'm creeping up on the big 6 and O this year, I know why we old folks do what we do... I've had knee surgery (meniscus repair) and have arthritis in both knees and lower back. Holding onto the side rails improves my…

Great suggestions! In to keep the thread!
