  • My top 5-6 death foods all involve chocolate in some manner. I could attribute a fast 20 lb weight gain to chocolate chips alone if I allowed myself.
  • That's how it's done! Great work!
  • I have a way to go still, but what has helped me to this point the most is deciding it's OK to feel a little hungry sometimes. I don't HAVE to stop that feeling immediately.
  • I really like that top picture.
  • I'm still old, slow and chubby but running the past 18 months or so has given me back a lot of tone in my lower body that had slipped away over the past 10-15 years. My core is stronger than it's ever been, somewhere underneath the blubber. Running has allowed me to really enjoy getting out in the woods for long hikes…
  • lol, I haven't gotten used to my knee bones touching when I sleep either. I think it's the ankles and knees touching at the same time that seems so unusual.
  • I've been wanting to squat with weights but don't have any. I'm going to feel silly with a 6'2" teenager on my shoulders, but may as well try...
  • It was just over a year ago that I started C25K. I couldn't run much more than 100 ft. at first. My "runs" were at something like 14:30 minute miles. Absolutely pathetic. I stuck with it though.... I never believed I would hit that 20 minute run, but... I did. This year, 40 lbs lighter (or so) thanks to running and a…
  • I started c25k a little over a year ago. I dreaded every increase and was suffering to complete each week, and that was at a VERY slow "run" pace (14-15 minute mile). I didn't believe I would ever get up to 5k or faster than 12 minute miles. About a month ago I ran a 7:10 mile. 5 miles is an easy, fun run now. As the…
  • Yes, keep running and take the time to build up slowly. Many months if you need to. A year if you have to. Being patient will pay big rewards down the line. When I was used to running 3 miles, 5 miles hurt. When I was used to running 5 miles, 8 miles hurt. When I got used to running 8 miles, 13 miles hurt... see the…
  • Deleted. Something weird is going on.
  • It's like any other muscle group, work it and it will grow... neglect it and it will shrivel. It just happens to take a fair amount of hard, dedicated work to make a big difference on a big muscle group.
  • I had no idea what boot gap would be. I wasn't entirely sure I should click to see. That wasn't so bad. Kind of a fun way to notice progress! Yay you!

  • Never thought of myself as much of a bunny, but I'll take it! Yes, I'm happy. :)
  • I used Rundouble's C25K app. I have been very happy with it. I tend to use MapMyRun more now, but the c25k plan was invaluable for me getting started. In about 8 months, I went from 50+ lbs overweight and couldn't jog more than maybe 100 ft to today I am just slightly overweight and average about 5-6 miles 5 days a week. I…
  • I've always had very strong, thick legs. I've been running seriously for 7-8 months now and now they are alarmingly thin for what I'm used to. At least I know where it went now. Glad you like it.
  • It's pretty neat how much your eyes grew. Great work!
  • How tall are you? Your progression is nearly identical to mine from a stats standpoint. You're just a few pounds ahead of me.
  • Your "before" picture looks very similar to my Dad. He was about the same height, build and age. Your transformation is astonishing. I am SO happy for you that you did something about all that weight before it's too late. I really wish my dad would have. You should do whatever you feel you need to in order to feel your…
  • At my heaviest, I thought if I would ever hit 190 again in my life I would be satisfied. A bit chunky, but satisfied. Once I dropped under 200 I realized that 190 was a goal that was basically admitting that I was weak-willed and willing to settle for "close enough". My goal now is 175. I feel like it will be next to…
  • I will not forget the first time I ran 5k (ever) last fall. Seriously, I'm not sure that I would be more excited if I ran the Boston Marathon. Felt like a million bucks. Keep at it and 5k will be your warm-up. :)
  • I "graduated" from my C25K in November 2013 having started at a baseline of "can't run more than a hundred feet". At that time I would have died trying to hit the pace you are at. Speed is relative. After six plus months of steady running, with some runs up to 14 miles, my best 5k time is still only 29:12, and my typical…

  • Bummer! (But I know it's true!) Just running - trying to push my physical limits a bit. I'm recovering from a brain injury (partly why I got so heavy to begin with) and running has become a significant factor in my recovery. I guess I do some bodyweight strength stuff also (pushups, pullups, etc) I won't, it's just how I…
  • The more I think about it, the more I am sure this is it. Smaller portion/less snacks was my recipe all along, and I think I've been getting more generous with my portions at least. *Sigh* Sometimes I just feel like throwing in the towel and eating like a beast... MUST RESIST.
  • Yeah, and that was at 65 degrees with 20-25 mph steady wind. I'm actually a bit scared to see what happens when the temps really start climbing. I expect I'll have to run at night once they get above 75 regularly, I can only carry so much water.
  • This is not a dig, I appreciate your input. I AM, however, highly amused at your definition of something that doesn't exist. I agree, "equilibrium" is a better term.
  • I can totally do this.
  • I know I'm not gaining much, if any muscle. Between the calorie deficit and running, I am firming up (yay!), but shrinking (boo!). I do periodically adjust my calorie goals downward as I lose. I've also adjusted for the fact that I burn less from exercise as I'm losing. My clothes seem to have continued to get looser, so…
  • I don't weight food (and don't plan to), but I have been using the same type of estimating that worked before. On the exercise side, I'm using an app that estimates the calorie burn from my runs... again, the combination of methods I used to track was working fine and now has just stopped. I aim for a 500 calorie deficit…
