  • Actually yes. LOL. I've moved treadmills before when the two people next to me were have a very loud conversation, so loud that even with my music turned all the way up I could still hear it. Then they had the nerve to give me the stink eye for moving. Ha ha!
  • You need to see a doctor. I get heart palpitations, too and have had two stress tests to make sure there wasn't anything majorly wrong. You need to be checked out before you do anything else.
  • I don't think there's any comparison, personally. Before I started running, I was using the ARC trainer for 45-60 minutes per day, 7 days a week at 140 steps per minute. I did that for 6+ months and then started Couch25K. I could only run for 90 seconds straight before I thought I would die. lol. I progressed pretty…
  • I would skip the butter (I really don't care for seafood dipped in butter) and use cocktail sauce. Also, when you order your steamed vegetables, make sure you tell them you don't want any butter on them. Years ago, when I worked at Red Lobster, they would pour butter over the steamed veggies. Steamed lobster doesn't have a…
  • At your height and weight, you don't have much, if any, weight to lose.
  • Nope, I don't understand. If I rake the yard for several hours or shovel snow for an hour, I would count that as a workout. I don't count cleaning the house or washing the dogs, but that's because it's MY personal preference. If I split wood and toted it for 5 hours, I would count that as exercise. I would even count it as…
  • Right, but she spent 4 hours washing, drying and grooming dogs. That's a bit more intense than walking up the stairs one time or running down the hall to the bathroom 10 times. I don't know how I'd log it, because I don't log washing the dogs, but it has to count for something.
  • It definitely is! I have 4 large breed dogs and it takes me about an hour to wash them all. Though now I take them to the dog wash and do them there. Saves my back and I don't have to clean the bathroom afterwards.
  • Sounds like it could be shin splints. You are pushing yourself too hard too fast. Look up Couch to 5K and ease back into running. That will allow your muscles and tendons to build up over time.
  • It sounds like the shoes aren't the right ones for you.
  • I run with my golden and he used to be a total spaz on leash, but he learned to settle in for our runs. I use a waist leash with him so my hands can stay free. Maybe if you started out at a slower pace he'd settle in? My boy would go nuts as soon as I broke into a run, so I slowed it down and that worked at keeping him…
  • I'm in for 50 miles this month. My running buddy (my golden retriever) had a tumor removed from his leg last week and will have the okay to start back running with me next weekend. Until then, I guess I'll hit the treadmill...
  • I'm a snail. I've been running on and off for over 2 years, regularly since March, and I am just now hitting 12 minute miles. LOL OP, you are doing incredible as far as I am concerned!
  • Do you normally go home and right to bed, or do you stay up for a few hours. If you normally stay up for a few hours, I'd say go ahead and stop at the gym on the way home. If you are exhausted and go right to bed when you get home, go to sleep and workout when you wake up.
  • I'm thinking that the once a month that PF serves pizza isn't going to send anyone over the edge into obesity, even if one person eats all the pizza that is brought in on free pizza night. It's once a month. Once a month. Not weekly, not daily, but monthly.
  • I know my morning runs are significantly easier for me than my afternoon/evening ones. I've never paid attention to my hrm to see if there was a big difference in my calorie burn, though.
  • Good job! That's a wonderful accomplishment!
  • I would count it as a hike, but keep an eye on your weight and if you aren't losing, reassess your calorie burn.
  • And if that is the case, if you are doing it in 15 minutes, that's 4 mph and if you are doing it in 20 minutes, that's 36 mph.
  • People who haven't had absolutely horrible periods have it in their heads that a little bit of exercise will make the cramps go away. Not the case for those of us who have at least two days of feeling like someone set our uterus on fire, stomped all over it, ran it through a mincer and then shoved it back in. Plus your…
  • That's what it feels like when you have Plantar Faciitis. Usually only is painful when you first start walking on your feet after getting up in the morning or after sitting for a while. Oh, and doing anything barefoot or wearing flip flops is a big no no if you have PF.
  • Pot meet kettle. Can you say irony?
  • It wouldn't be a problem at all if said dentist only put the sugar cubes out for an hour on the first Tuesday of the month and an hour on the second Wednesday of the month. Two hours out of an entire month? If someone doesn't have the willpower to pass up those freebies, if they don't have the calories to spare, then they…
  • 95% of running is mental. I find myself bargaining with myself a couple of runs a week. If I'm having a bad day, I'll start out telling myself that I'll just do 2 miles and walk the 3rd. When I get to 2 miles, I tell myself that I'll just run 2.5 miles and then walk .5. Next thing I know, my 3 miles are done. The good news…
  • I run because I worked really hard to get to the point where I can run 3 miles without feeling like I'm going to die. Now I'm afraid I lose that conditioning if I miss even one run, so I keep on running...
  • I have to have a chiropractic adjustment at least once a month to keep my hips from bothering me. It's made a world of difference for me!
  • I have to stretch after I run or I pay for it for the next 2 days. I warm up before a run by walking briskly for 2 or 3 minutes. But the stretching is a must for me!
  • LOL! I like how it's all males who have responded so far. Thank goodness, I haven't ever had this issue!

  • I hate the treadmill because I get so bored running on it, however, it's too warm to me for me to run outside after work, so twice a week I run on the treadmill at the gym and then twice a week on Saturday and Sunday, I run outside.
  • I generally am much more active on vacation because at home, I have much less time to exercise. Because of that, I can eat more than I do normally do, but I still don't start eating too much. I do have a weakness for ice cream, and I do indulge in that when I am on vacation, pretty much daily.
