  • I feel your pain. My first period of vegetarianism was made very difficult by living at home after returning from college and not being the primary cook in the family. I went veg again three years ago. A lot of people including loved ones will be unsupportive or have uninformed critiques of your choice. As far as cooking…
  • This! Don't take him shopping with you for starters. I'll add a male perspective to the conversation: The best meal is any meal that I don't have to buy groceries for or prepare myself. I'm vegetarian and I eat pretty cheaply without resorting to bleached bread or eating any pasta. I do it by eating whole foods as much as…
  • This. I'm tired of these mother effin snakes on these mother effin trails. I used to bike a trail in the Orlando area that had snakes that were really good at laying in the middle of the trail and looking remarkably like sticks until you were right next to them. EEEEK!
  • So your doctor wants you to start drinking laundry detergent?
  • Remarkable difference, especially in your midsection which most people to seem to have trouble with. And don't get too discouraged by the plateaus. You're going to have them. In my own experience, the thing that blasts me through plateaus is taking two to three days off from the gym and moderately increasing my calories…
  • Losing weight just fine on paxil for anxiety. I've read some literature that discusses SSRIs possibly causing weight gain by affecting liver function, but it seems to me from my own experience and the observations of others that weight gain on SSRIs is mostly behavioral. When I first started I felt very euphoric and super…
  • Wonder how many people with "bad knees" would have good knees if they strengthening their leg muscles by doing squats with proper form.
  • Under my chin and my neck. My upper chest also seems to have lost fat fast. The belly is not as noticeable visually, but I've gone from wearing 40 inch waist pants to being able to get into 34s depending on the brand. And being on my tightest belt loop now.
  • I get foot numbness on the elliptical and recumbent style bikes at my gym. Can't do more than 30 minutes or so because of it. Anyone got a solution?
  • I have the opposite experience. The treadmill always shows way less than the heart rate monitor by 200 to 300 calories on my runs. It seems from the posts I've read on this issue that the treadmill usually overestimates for the girls and underestimates for us boys.
  • I was about your age when it finally dawned on me that every time that I drank a milkshake I felt like my stomach was going to explode. I drank soy milk for years, but recently switched over to almond milk. I don't miss dairy at all.
  • Week 4 was terribly difficult for me for some reason. I think it was mostly due to my body adjusting to the demands of running. My knees and my inner thighs were not very happy with me the entire week and I was hobbling around most of the time. I finished my program last week and ran a 5k in 37:13, which I was pleased…
  • I just walked in the door from Week 5 Day 1. Was a little nervous about it because due to a hectic weekend, I missed Week 4 Day 3 and the first run of the week is usually a butt kicker for me. But it went great. Like everyone in the program, I am nervous about the 20 minute run at the end of the week, but everyone seems to…
  • I started having knee pain in both knees during week 2 of Couch to 5k. I was able to get rid of it with a couple of things: 1. Take a day off for rest. I was doing cardio 7 days a week and wasn't allowing my body any rest time. 2. Mix in more low impact cardio. Swimming for a couple of work outs helped rest my knees…
