I use Carnation Instant Breakfast as a day starter sometimes since I hate eating breakfast. I don't know the quality of the nutrients, but I drink it more to put something in my stomach till lunch. It's fairly cheap, comes in different flavors, and it tasty with additions like bananas, peanut butter, a dab of cinnamon, or…

When I first got my apartment, I thought nothing of polishing off a whole small pizza and a pint of ice cream. The ice cream store was conveniently located next door to the pizzeria. That was a long, long, long time ago.

I don't know about not eating at all, but on my last appointment my doctor said to not eat carbs in the evening. That was based on my blood test results and had something to do with how my body handles insulin, so it wasn't just a generalization. He said protein snacks were okay (obviously within a reasonable eating plan).

Cool! Which Fitbit did you get? I have the Flex, and had a One for a long time before that.

I'm 49 and have been working on a healthier lifestyle for a couple of years now. I have trouble getting off my plateaus, and I've found that my crazy hormone fluctuations affect my weight a lot, which is weaning me off my dependence on the scale. I think you're on the right track with C25K. I plan to try that myself, and…

That's a shame. That "adoption" program is a great idea. For all my fellow January joiners responding here, you can still take advantage of the mentoring. I just signed up with someone a few days ago. It's great to see so many responses in this thread with such a big group of people sticking it out.

Glad to see so many sticking it out and still going strong! I think the challenges here are a great way to maintain the momentum. I joined a walking one for Feb. The weather doesn't want to cooperate, but I've got a Biggest Loser walking DVD and some old Leslie Sansone walks that I can pull out, so no excuses.

Woo hoo! I think those great feelings are the best motivator to keep going.

I have a Chiweenie (half dachshund and half Chihuahua). Or at least that's what breeders call it when they try to sell them as designer dogs. He's a mutt to me, and I got him at the pound. He's a little sweetheart, but the dachshund makes his prey drive strong so he's always after my poor cats.
-
Could it be missing because she was spayed as part of a trap/neuter/release program? They "tip" the ears to identify feral cats that have been caught and fixed. She sounds like a sweetheart.

Cheese in all its shapes and forms and varieties.

Two bettas and a ghost shrimp. Four cats. One dog. A couple of guinea pigs. A bird. It's like a freakin' menagerie in here.

Two things: 1) Not forbidding myself from eating treats. 2) Reminding myself that a binge is not worth the consequences. I enjoy favorites like ice cream or cookies in moderation. That way, there's no deprivation that can lead to a bad decision. By logging my food faithfully here, I have to face bad choices in black and…

Please feel free to add me! Weight gain can be depressing, but you're in the right spot to turn that around. Support is vitally important to an overall holistic program. That's the main reason I signed up here, in addition to the food tracking. You can do it, and there are plenty of people here willing to help.

I feel your pain! It's a challenge to work in exercise when you have a desk job, especially with such a long commute. In the past, when I had a corporate job, I walked at lunch time. We had 45 minutes, so I ate something quickly, then walked for 30 mins. Luckily there was a big warehouse when I could talk indoors in bad…

Normally I'm the designated driver while my wine loving hubby drinks when we're out, but this party is just around the block. I may have to use that "drink until you can't even chew anymore" strategy.

This is a good question for your doctor. I'm approaching age 50 and just had comprehensive blood work done. It showed that I need more vitamin D and Omega-3, so I've started supplements for both of those. I don't think there's any sure way to tell unless you actually have the blood work done.
-
Just call them out on what they're doing, and use a question to do it. Rude people rarely know how to respond to that. For example, ask them, "Why do you feel so compelled to play food police for me instead of worrying about yourself?" or "How can you possibly think it's acceptable to constantly make comments on what other…

It's very tempting to use a binge as an excuse to quit, but don't fall into that trap. Instead, view it as a sign that something needs adjustment. The posters here have some great suggestions on what that might be. One day doesn't have to destroy you unless you let it. It could mark a return to old bad habits, or it could…

Yes, it's a pain in the butt, but so are lots of daily chores like cleaning the litter box etc. I see it as a necessary evil to keep myself accountable. The benefits outweigh the tedium and time investment for me. Logging is like a daily touchstone that reminds me I'm actively doing things to support my healthy lifestyle.…

Ah, yes, that was my other strategy. It's very easy to get lazy after a big brunch, but that plus party = incentive for a good workout in between.
-
The shake idea is intriguing, since I make smoothies pretty regularly. Is there any yucky aftertaste when doing that?
-
Thanks, all! It's so nice to have friends on this journey. I figure I need to have nothing to hide, whether it's good or bad, so I stay accountable. It will be nice to offer that same support to others too.

I recommend the One or the Flex. I've had Fitbits since the first model and loved my One because of the display. Unfortunately, I often forgot to put it on. That's the thing that sold me on the Flex, since I just wear it 24.7. I love that it's waterproof so I can wear it in the shower. That's the main thing that kept me…

Just sent you a friend request. I turn 50 later this year and would love more friends in the same phase of life. I'm busily dreading menopause, but otherwise I'm exciting to see where life takes me.

Now I have a mental picture of someone butchering Ah-Nold. My husband is actually a big fan of mussels. Me, not so much.

Haggis. I had a chance to try it this summer, and it was amazingly good. I also love blood sausages like keishka and black pudding. There must be a touch of vampire back in my genes somewhere.
-
Aw, come on, it could mean using your Fitbit while pumping a Shake Weight.
-
I've been a Fitbit user since the original model. I went to a One, and then to a Flex because I kept forgetting to put my One back on. I love the fact that I can wear the Flex in the shower (not being able to do that with the Force was a deal breaker for me). I've had really good luck with all my Fitbits, other than…

That's an awesome transformation! You should be very, very proud of yourself.
