  • Thank you for your post. It happened to be the 1st thing I read after not logging in for 3 months and totally falling off my own wagon. I needed the common sense pep talk. You rock!
  • Every protein bar I've found in the stores are packed with carbs. Be sure to read the labels! The best bars I've found that are low in carbs but high in protein are at the medi-weightloss clinics. Even if you aren't a client you can go in and purchase these bars at the counter. A bit pricy but very yummy. You might also…
  • Also, if you are using pct to calculate your intake, be sure you are calculating correctly. Calculations based on total grams or total calories will be different: 1g Carb = 4 calories/g 1g Protein = 4 calories/g 1g Fat = 9 calories/g Grams are not created equal!!!
  • I'm doing a high-protein, low carb diet and try to keep my carbs between 20-30 grams and my protein as close to 100 grams as possible. I find it's easier to read labels and keep track if I count grams instead of percent per day. I rarely eat the cheap carbs - other than a bit of rice last night (first in 6 months...) I do…
  • EAS Advantedge shakes are high protein (17 grams) and Pure Protein shakes have a whopping 23 grams. Both are LOW CARB which is important if you want to do a high protein diet. Anything you get with high protein you'll want to read the label because some of that stuff is crazy with carbs. I would stay away from beans as…
  • I do not think the MFP exercise calculations are close to accurate, so whichever way you log it would be fine. I'd say it's more about tracking your effort than getting an accurate calorie burn count. Good job, by the way!
  • Great idea! You're doing awesome!
  • Blueberries are good and unsweetened strawberries - just watch your serving size. Stay away from bananas and grapes - good advice from above. And whether the sugar comes from a fruit or a candybar, it's still calories and you are correct in counting it. I keep my carbs low which works for me so I watch the sugars I eat…
  • I quite about 2 years ago and found an immense difference. Weightloss and no more aspartame headaches. And I feel better about the fact that I'm not ingesting a bunch of mystery chemicals into my body. I now drink lots & lots of water and unsweetened tea on occasion. I do admit to going to Sonic about once a month and…
  • The high-protein/low-carb/low-fat diet is one that I have been doing and is very successful for me, but I couldn't do it without the meat consumption. Turkey and chicken are your friends in this diet, believe me. That will be very difficult if you are limiting your meat consumption, but you may be able to accomplish this…
  • I have been losing steadily but it's been a start-and-stop battle over the last 2 years. The program I'm using now really works for me and I see myself sticking with it. I know what it's like when you haven't found that perfect program that works for you. Feel free to friend me for support! BTW - great job quitting…
  • When I had a working scale I was compulsive about it. I didn't replace it when I moved a year and a half ago and now I'm doing the medi-weighloss where I go in once a week for a weigh-in with body analysis. I chose NOT to replace the scale and just rely on the weigh-ins which has actually helped me. (btw - today was…
  • You need to drink LOTS of water. The nurse practitioner I'm working with during my weigh-ins told me that if I'm not drinking enough (and 8 cups/day is MINIMUM) then I will retain water and it won't look like I'm losing, even though the analyzer says I'm losing fat. I carry a water bottle with me constantly and yes, I have…
  • Peanut Butter always tastes better straight out of the jar. Mostly my weird habits are around stuff I don't like. If I don't like it, it doesn't enter the kitchen and will never touch my plate. Life is too short to deal with yucky stuff like onions, fish, or green beans. I have food rules too: If one cooks pork chops,…
  • You are welcome to add me! I'll be on this journey for some time yet to reach my goal...
  • I had a 2 ft purple mohawk so I'm guessing...prep? ;-)
  • My diet intention was for general weight loss, but by following a high protein (lean meat) diet that was low fat and very, very low carb, my borderline cholesterol dropped significanly within 2 months. I'm firmly in the normal range with the bad cholesterol on the low side. It was quite a shocker to see such a drastic…
  • Hi! I'm in Texas and 42. I haven't really been involved in the forum and blogs on this site - just using the logging feature - but I've found some really interesting threads here and there. Add me if you'd like! Good luck! I KNOW you can do it!!! :-)
  • I forgot to mention the EAS Advantedge Carb Control Shakes. The chocolate is delicious and only 110 calories - all very low carbs. I usually have one with my morning coffee for breakfast. Can't start my day without one anymore, but I'm sure it would work at night too!
  • I do the high-protein/low-carb diet and I'm counting the calories. I stick with a high protein snack which I've found satisfies hunger MUCH better than anything with carbs or too much fat. Ideas for that last intake for me are: hard-boiled egg (deviled eggs are yummy if not made with mayo) 6-8 nuts 1 tbsp peanut butter…
