Out of concern? Weren't you the one who posted "No, we are not here for encouragement and praise. What a strange thing to claim." Therefore, you aren't here to encourage or care about anyone. Who made you the diet police? Were you hired by MFP to monitor the site for unsafe diet practices and then "teach" others? If you…

Why so hostile, kids? If you disagree with what you "presume" the original poster is doing, read and move on. Who made the critical folks experts on the best way for this individual to lose weight? While I am not a fan of most "doctor supervised" low calorie diets for me, I would certainly not give my feedback to someone…

I am in the same position. I am early in my weight loss journey (down 20 lbs of a total/ultimate goal of 115 lbs). I already have one little boy, he's 4. I also have the pressure of age...I turned 39 last month. My pregnancies have ended early with preterm labor caused by unknown causes (we lost our first baby at 23…

WOW! You have done an amazing job! You are an inspiration to so many of us just starting? Congratulations on your success!

Amazing job! You are an inspiration to others!!

Amazing! What a success story...not just of losing the weight, but moving out of depression. Bravo!

Congrats on seeing results and feeling motivated by that. As a word of caution, you are eating far too few calories for a man of your age. I encourage you to calculate your BMR; this is the amount of calories your body (based on height, gender and age) needs just to work if you were in a coma (maintaining body temp, heart…

I highly recommend any of the a Happy Herbivore cookbooks for easy, quick, low fat plant-based meals. You can also check out her blog/web site/a Facebook for ideas. I have not gone fully plant -based, but these recipes are helping!

A few thoughts: The OP is likely not obese if her BMR is just over 1300. I have 100 lbs to lose, am almost 40 and have a BMR of over 1800. Also, it makes little sense for someone to be on a plan to go so far below BMR. You will lose muscle, along with fat, eating this low. The BMR is the number of calories your body needs…

I plugged your information in a fairly reliable calculator on-line and for a 35 year-old female who is 5'5" and 156 lbs, your basal metabolic rate, BMR, is 1468. This is the number of calories your body needs to function if you were in a coma or laid in bed all day. Your total daily energy expenditure, TDEE, is just over…

The larger a person is, the more pounds it requires to move between sizes; the closer you get to goal, the less weight lost between sizes. I started at 275 and I'm now 254. I've gone down almost a size (pants were tight, now fit and/or are really loose). I know from the past, that I will need to lose about 30-40 lbs to be…

Going meatless, or "plant-based" has been scientifically proven to have huge health benefits. People have reversed heart disease and other ailments by becoming vegan. I am not vegan or vegetarian, though I include as many plant-based meals as I can. I have lost weight pretty well since doing so in the last month. I always…

I LOVE Trader Joe's! Some of my favorite items are: Turkey meatballs Mushroom fettuccini Salsa verde Basil marinara sauce Steamed dumplings Rolled taquitos Grilled lemon chicken Organic brown rice (frozen; microwave in a bag) I could go on and on!

When I hit 100 lbs, I'll be buying myself the Louis Vuitton I've been eyeing. When I hit goal (only 20 lbs after that), I'm thinking I'll celebrate with a pair of nice diamond stud earrings. It's a long road...I feel like I'll deserve it!

As you can see, there are several schools of thought. From what I've learned (and experienced) after losing and gaining weight throughout my life, there are a number of components to how you should work out. What are your goals? Are you trying to tone up and lose those last 10-15 lbs.? Are you trying to lose a significant…

I completed Power 90 last year and lost 38 lbs. I stuck to the program only adding a handful of yoga classes here and there. I averaged around 1500 calories per day. I spent about 1/2 the 90 days in level one (maybe longer) and moved to level 2 for the last 40 days, I believe. I started at a high weight (270 lbs), so lost…

I followed it to a T early last year and lost 38 lbs. it's a good basic workout...
-
To clarify, I lost 18 lbs when I did Chalene Extreme (years ago) and I lost 38 lbs when I did Power 90 last year. I would say that my diet was similar in both cases.
-
I have both and have done both programs (and I have Jillian Michaels body revolutions set, too). Power 90 is very guy friendly, because the cardio moves are basic (jumping jacks, football runs in place), whereas the cardio workouts in Chalene Extreme has a few more complicated punching sequences (created by the woman who…

It can be done, but it matters your starting weight. it'll be easier to lose this much if you're starting at 250 lbs vs 175 lbs. you'll have to keep a VERY clean diet, with whole foods and lean meats only. If you do high-intensity cardio for 45-mins per day at a minimum, you'll drop weight quickly. Daily calories should be…

Can't wait to try the pumpkin spice recipe shared...yummy!

Amazing results! I can't wait to show my husband your results. You should be so proud!

I bought this last March and lost 21 lbs in 6 weeks. I stopped due to going on vacation and haven't gone back. I''ll be starting it again sometime in 2013!
-
I exercise about 6.5 hours a week. In that amount of time, I do circuit training classes (both cardio and weight-based) and yoga.
-
Wow...you were obviously a great guy before this journey started. Your focus and motivation is inspiring. Amazing resuls! And the photo of your mud run makes it look like so much fun! Bravo!

You are correct: in group benefits through an employer there is less differentiation based on risk characteristics (e.g., age, gender, preexisting conditions, weight, etc.) than individual health plans. This, however, is changing with the inclusion of "credits" or rate adjustments for smoking and weight-based issues. You…
-
Something else to consider: You are not "required" to participate in your company's insurance program. If a smoker feels they are truly the peak of health, then leverage a health spending account and place your own money into that account for future health costs. Take the gamble yourself and self-insure. As as aside, have…

Most people who are in the obese category are declined life insurance...it's hard to get.

It's not a "personal freedoms" issue. It's a "cost of doing business" issue. The same theory can be applied to other types of insurance. A 20 year-old driver will be charged a higher rate than a 40 year-old driver regardless of record because data has shown that the 20 year-old demographic has a much higher probability of…
