  • Yes! How can we forget the fiber! The only good carb in my opinion. For some of us, especially those of us with Type 2 Diabetes and other diseases and problems associated with carb absorbtion, Starch is not "good stuff." It doesn't matter how complex your carb, in the end your body will convert it to sugar in order to use…
  • A common misconception is that sugars and carbs are different things. They are not. Even if you are eating a carb from say, corn, and not white sugar, your body will process that corn into glucose, the same way it will process white table sugar into glucose and whole wheat toast into glucose.
  • I just did my first fat fast last week. I lost 6 lbs and have only gained 1 back after returning to normal eating. I only did a 3 day fat fast. I think if I plan better and make more specific meals in advance I can go for at least 5 days next time. I am just taking it slow and eating less calories now after the fat fast,…

  • Yeah, tell that to my Type 2 Diabetes. Lol. It all really depends on your body. Some people can do fine eating carbs and losing weight, others not so much. I can't. Carbs make me bloated and raise my blood sugar too much. I'm too sensitive to them, so I have to avoid them as much as possible. Even then, it's still a slow…
  • "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living" by Phinney and Volek is my fav.

  • Awesome. I am certain that the next time either one of them think about saying something snarky about someone else, they will remember this moment. It might not stop them from speaking, but it just might.
  • It's not pointless and please try and ignore the haters. I know it's hard because they say such hurtful things, some without even realizing it. But sometimes people need to insult others in order to feel good about themselves. It's them, not you. Please go back and look at your happy smiling face in your profile picture.…
  • Well said. I also follow a Keto diet and have no problem with portion control. In fact, I have even better portion control now than I ever did before. For me, this is "normal eating" and why would I ever go back to eating foods that make my body sick and unhealthy? Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to eat carbs to…
  • Muffin top. I hate that, especially when it's on me!
  • I have Type 2 Diabetes and no matter how much the American Diabetes Association tells me it's good for me to eat 100s of grams of carbs every day as long as they are "good" carbs, it's not true. My body does not process carbs well at all. In fact, if I eat too many salads during the week, my fasting blood sugars begin to…
  • This works for me, too. I have found the best thing is to make sure I plan for it in advance and then that way I know I have a snack coming and I can balance myself out. Also, make sure you have only snacks around that fit into your specific diet plan so that if you do overindulge at least it is with good, healthy snacks.…
  • I also checked the counts on some of their other normal pizzas and they consistently under listed calories. So I wouldn't trust the nutrition facts on any of their products.
  • There's nothing strange about having ongoing intestinal disorders. There are lots of names and causes for them. The OP indicated that she has needed to log to keep track of what she's eating and make sure she's eating enough - probably at the suggestion of her doctor to help determine what the cause of her ongoing problem…
  • Since following a ketogenic diet, I have improved all my lab work results, including lowering my triglycerides, lowering my LDL and raising my HDL. A dietician is going to tell you the same old mantra everyone else does - eat a low fat, high whole grain diet. I recommend you do your own research and read the information…
  • Sometimes we buy them fresh made from the Mexican store - they call them Chicharones. Yum, especially when you pair it with a nice artichoke-jalapeno dip. Sometimes they are called pork cracklings.
  • That's awesome! Way to go!

  • I have to say I disagree with this. Type 1 diabetics will lose weight when the body stops producing insulin and this is often how it is discovered. However, Type 2 Diabetes is completely different. In Type 2 Diabetes, your body is insulin resistant and doesn't effectively use the carbs you eat. When your body doesn't use…
  • That's awesome! I brought mine down from 7.4 to 6.1, but hoping to hit that 5.7 mark next time I get my labwork done.
  • This. When I first started I wasn't losing weight at 1200, even though I am pretty sedentary. But I bounced it up to 1300 and started losing.
  • My goodness this sounds delicious! I might have to have fried cheese for dinner tonight.
  • It could be a number of things. You could be not eating enough, especially with the amount of excercise you are getting. Also, you could be building muscle while losing fat and that wouldn't necessarily register on the scale. Try this calculator: http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/ It can help you…
  • I'm probably not the best example of what to do, but I stopped taking mine completely. Cold turkey. Without talking to my doctor. I was only on the 500mg extended release, and my diabetes has mostly been fairly well managed with a low carb diet, so I didn't have any of the noted side effects. I don't recommend anyone doing…
  • Thanks! I think I should probably ignore these for myself then, but I wish everyone else good luck with this.
  • I've never heard of this, but I'm not sure if this would be helpful at all if you are using Keto as a way to control blood sugar, like I am. I am also wondering if this would knock a person out of ketosis. Does anyone have any info or experience regarding these situations?
  • I did this same thing yesterday and it didn't work, but it did finally work today. Yay! On a side note, I had to reboot my computer this morning, so maybe that had something to do with it as well.
  • Still not working for me this morning. the "food_container" script is in there, but it won't display. I also have Tamper Monkey and Chrome and have installed it in Tamper Monkey and directly in Chrome and neither way is working any longer.
  • I've tried this updated one and it still doesn't work. It's not putting weird stuff on my page like I was getting before. In fact, it's not putting anything on my page. It's like it's not even running even though I repeatedly tell it to run. I'm sad because I really loved that feature.
  • I have no faith in anything WebMD posts after reading that article. Not that I had much faith before, but really? Ketosis is a dangerous metabolic state? Well someone might want to tell Johns Hopkins as they have been successfully prescribing a ketogenic diet to epileptic children for decades. sigh. Idiots. Just stick to…
