  • Here's the link to the thread where this started. There are a lot of good suggestions. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/297428-ladies-who-do-pullups
  • Never wear mine - need to hook up with hot guys! Actually, I've been too fat for mine for years - it's almost time to try it on again.
  • Go for it! I'm a zero!
  • Really doesn't matter what I want to exercise to - lately, all I hear in my head is Lady Gaga's "Bad romance"! Just shoot me.
  • I'm in! Had a little setback this week, though - I was working so hard on it my pecs and biceps were very sore for a couple of days! It will happen - I was able to "pulse" a little at the lower end of the hang, with the aid of the band.
  • Agree with strength training. Work on your upper back muscles with lat pulldowns, pullups, and rows. That should help with the pain, and then you can see where you are you reach goal weight.
  • Same here! The ticker tells the tale.
  • I might consider taking you up on that, although you've definitely got the age advantage on me - except I don't think I'll have a prayer of making it by Labor Day. Maybe by Thanksgiving!
  • What is the point of this? It looks like an ad.
  • LOL! Well, you DID title this "Ladies who do pullups". I'm only a wannabe. I've just been doing the assisted pullups with 85 pounds assistance. I'm hoping to work up to a real pullup by the time I reach goal weight. I haven't tried the band assist again yet, but I think I'm still too weak. I still feel a little shy about…
  • In Tennessee, you get carded forever! We were getting a burrito and beer at Moe's when we were 53, and the girl mumbled to my husband, who is sometimes mistaken for Santa Claus by small children, "I need to see your ID". I started snickering, and she said to me, "I need to see yours too". My jaw dropped - it had been 30…
  • One of the pleasures of being over 40 is being less concerned about what people think. I only wish I'd been able to reach that state of mind earlier in life!
  • Just resumed lifting about a month ago - I never can understand why I let it lapse! Everything feels better. i can even work at my desk longer without fatigue. Deadlifts, back squats, pullups, pushups, lunges and step-ups rock. I've got my barbell back squat up to 65 pounds, starting to see some leveling off, so the…

  • Agree. I've just resumed weight training recently with a very pared-down routine, 3 days weekly, alternating: one day, barbell squats, assisted pullups, modified pushups, dumbbell step-ups, and 2 core exercises (planks and leg pull-ins); next time, deadlifts, military press, dumbbell row, lunges, and 2 core exercises…
  • Don't forget to re-set your HRM as your weight falls! I forgot to do this all the way from 185 pounds down to 160. I had been showing abouit 400 calories burned per hour of cycling, but after re-setting, I was down to about 345.
  • Same here. Clothing sizes vary a lot, but in general I was size 10 at 130 pounds, size 12 at 150, size 14 at 170, and size 16 (but everything was too long) at 190.
  • I'm really loving Jefit for logging weightlifting. Sometimes I use my My Tracks for bike rides or skiing, but not always.
  • I use a Specialized Sequoia Elite for commuting, with Tiagra/105 components. It's an aluminum bike, suitable for light touring, and will take a rack (but not standard fenders; have to use race blades). Strip off the stuff, and it's appropriate for club rides (although I did upgrade to a Lynskey for that purpose).…
  • Depends! Winston Salem? Should be possible. Asheville or Boone? Maybe never. If you're feeling like a real neophyte, you should probably do some basic reading on cycling for beginners. I'm an intermediate but very slow cyclist, and I still struggle with hand numbness, and push my bike up some hills, despite significant…
  • Interestingly enough, I found a Danskin sports bra at Walmart for about $11-$12, with snazzy styling and foam cups, which actually is acceptable for a medium size (D-cup) with light running. I haven't had much luck with underwires; they always hurt in action. Moving Comfort and, I think, CRX?, are good choices. Some people…
  • I will not go to bed hungry. I try to prevent it by eating a huge serving of stirfried vegetables with 4-6 ounces of lean meat or fish at supper (between 6-9 p.m.), then a low fat yogurt at 9-10. However, if I'm still hungry at bedtime, I'll go 100 calories over with yogurt or milk rather than going to bed hungry. Nothing…
  • I usually average around 450-500 calories per hour by my HRM, at an average heart rate around 137 (85% max). My husband probably weighs around 250, and his burn is higher. Sweating varies depending on temperature, humidity, etc. My speeds are slow, 10-14 mph, just because.
  • It really isn't necessary to test the T3 under most circumstances. If your T4 is within the normal range and your TSH is optimal, then your thyroid is not contributing to the problems. In my lab, a normal TSH is 0.34-5.6 (actually, 0.34-3.0, but that's another story). I try to keep most of my patients in the 1-2 range,…
  • I believe that's on my Bucket List!
  • I like plain teas with sugar. I get my everyday iced tea mix from Coffee Bean Direct (1/3 Darjeeling and 2/3 Ceylon), and hot teas from Specialteas. There are a few Ceylons which are extra special and make a nice cup, but for the most part I stick to Darjeelings and the occasional Yunnan. The smoky flavor of Keemun doesn't…
  • You're right! I was mostly wearing 14's (getting a little tight), so at about 2 months and 15-20 pounds down I figured I could buy size 12 trousers and ride them down almost to goal weight, which I figured would be 6 more months or so. Now, less than a month later, the size 12's are already getting baggy (size inflation on…
  • I hear you. If I can't figure it out, I usually wind up logging as 1000, 2000, or 3000 calories, depending on how full I feel! So far, haven't had to do 3000.
  • Agreed, particularly on the first example - but transition as you can to, "Look what you've done! You're controlling your appetite, making healthy food choices, and getting stronger!" I started weight loss in a self-punishing, frustrated mode, but that only lasted about 12 hours. Then, after eating a Lean Cuisine…
  • I dunno - sometimes I'm just too lazy for any of these! Possibly some of these are just for amusement? Once I considered logging a couple of gnats I consumed on a bike ride, but they were too small to have assigned calories.
