  • I’m in the lots to lose category. I’d love to have more friends holding me accountable, but for the life of me can’t figure out how to add friends? Do I have to names and paste into request in the app? Is there an easy way to add here? Add me? Point me in the right direction? 😝
  • Can you please add me to the group?
  • The hubby and I are going on a long weekend to vegas next week. It will be the first time in 5 years we have spent more than a night away from our kids as a couple. And of all places, the land of huge, cheap buffets and free alcohol (I'm not much of a drinker though). I really don't have a clear plan in place. I'm not sure…
  • I've had a nutty few days and haven't been able to get online via the web much, so I haven't been posting. Nutty days make it much harder to eat clean when speed and convenience are so much easier. K
  • I have PCOS. It wasn't diagnosed at 12, because back then they didn't have any answers for what was wrong with me. But I am certain I've had it since puberty. At my highest, I was 375 pounds. Now, let me say that my family in general is very fertile. My Gram used to say "if a man throws his pants over the end of the bed,…
  • I find the opposite of the OP. I was much hungrier and eating more when I was drinking soda. Part of it was probably that I was drinking regular soda, and sugar does its quick burn, energy drop, feed me more sugar thing. But even if I drink a diet 7-up, which I do occasionally, I feel like I want to eat more. I thought…
  • You do also eat quite a bit of calorie dense, but not filling foods. Nothing says you have to give up butter and lemon curd and bread and such, but if you also include foods with more bulk. more fiber and less calories, that will help keep you fuller longer -- things like legumes, whole grain breads, fruits and vegetables…
  • I was big on soda, so that has been hard for me -- but the same thing has happened with my kids which is great. I keep a brita pitcher in the fridge and one on the table, so my kids have just started using that when they are thirsty. I've got a half full jug of apple juice that has been in there for weeks now. My 10yo…
  • At my highest I was 375, although I started MFP the first time at 345 or so. I'm currently 309ish and working towards 175 (200 pounds lost) and then I will reassess and see how I look and feel. At 5'8", 175 is still "overweight" but I haven't been below 200 pounds since I was 12 years old (I'm 44 now) so I have no idea…
  • I loved the roasting idea! That's what I did for my current batch. The flavor profile was just slightly different, probably because I left out the rotel and just tossed in an extra half poblano, but it was just as good. It's still a nice spicy, low calorie kick that I put on almost everything ;)
  • If you click on the groups link at the top of the community page, and enter "Clean Eating Jumpstart" it will bring up that group. Come join us!
  • If all I got from my doctor boils down to "I don't know why you aren't losing weight, get surgery", I'd find another doctor. Has she referred you to have your metabolism tested? Not everyone is typical and the standard TDEE formula may not be accurate for you. (no matter what the TDEE/iifym/cico crowd thinks) Has she done…
  • I eat almost no processed food, and don't cook with salt so when I do eat out, I really get hit with the sodium bloat. It takes at least 3-4 days usually for me to get back to "normal".
  • I had a tiny weight loss this week. Not entirely unexpected for my body and how it reacts to suddenly eating a calorie deficit. My weekend was about 70% clean (let's not talk about bacon =0). This morning I had a tomato and goat cheese galette from my local grocer deli (a local equivalent to whole foods, its a clean,…

  • I would say this week its been about 50/50 for the clean eating. But as I've mentioned, I just can't afford to throw away my pantry, and I am still making my calorie goals for weight loss, so I feel good about the changes I have incorporated moving towards the goal of more clean eating.

  • Disclaimer: What is ideal and what I eat each day aren't necessarily one and the same yet. I am working towards the ideal =) To me clean eating is eating the best and healthiest options from the food groups, in as natural of a state (before I cook it) as possible. I choose whole, natural foods and seek to eliminate or…
  • Me too! I've never been able to buy bras.
  • I think the pronounce ingredient thing is just meant to be a helpful guideline. If a product has bananas in it, they only have to put "banana" on the label; they don't have to break it down into its component parts. It stands to reason that any chemical compounds in the food is required to be on the label because it's…

  • I find the gracious pantry site very useful. It's my favorite clean eating site :)
  • I feel the same way about cost. I checked the price on the jarred tomatoes at my local market yesterday. 6.79 a jar! Is rather stick to my 1$ a can organic (on sale) and spend the extra money in the meat department. :)
  • I have wondered the same thing. It wouldn't make sense for them to move it too far just to move it back? But maybe they have a central warehouse where everything goes first?
  • I've always gotten bagged spinach for the same reason. I also find it's more tender and I can eat the stems, where with standard spinach I don't like the stems.
  • The honey is the secret ingredient that gives it the restaurant taste! It's such a tiny amount that it's negligible in calories and you don't taste honey, but it doesn't taste right without it! I do like chunky salsas and pico de gallos when I have good in season tomatoes (in fact I've got 8 thriving heirloom tomato…
  • None of those are the case; I'm hardly some ignorant clod trying to prove you wrong for my own amusement and frankly I do not appreciate your assumptions. I hate that I can't eat anything that I want in my calorie range and still lose weight. I wanted it to be true. Exacting records were important. Regardless, I am done…
  • I don't eat low carb. I just eat carbs that are better for me. I spent 6 months with excellent food logging. I gained weight on 1200-1500 calories a day. Not a lot, but I did gain. At 350 pounds, you do the math. If it were simply a matter that my metabolism is so slow that 1200-1500 calories doesn't create a deficit, then…
  • People claiming CICO is everything sound just as ignorant to me as someone saying bananas make you fat. Just because you lose weight that way doesn't mean it's true for everyone. I would not lose weight on a Twinkie diet. When insulin is present in the blood, fat burning can not happen. If a person has any insulin…
  • Cico doesn't work for me. With my PCOS and diabetes, I would gain weight on 1000 calories a day of sugar and lose weight on 1500 calories of protein, produce and unprocessed carbs. I also prefer to eat "clean" as a matter of health, if nothing else.
  • That's a great list, astylla! One thing I would say is that if money is a concern, I wouldn't spend the extra money on organic bananas or onions. They are usually touted as part of the "clean 15", and very unlikely to be contaminated with pesticides (along with asparagus, avocados, pineapple and a few others). Not that…
  • Sounds delicious though! I agree that I haven't given as much thought to the somewhat processed items either. It's good to be more aware.
