  • Good job resisting the urge yesterday. I think in the middle of emotional breakdown can be the hardest time to fight the compulsion to eat. Sometimes when I can't get out of a slump I marathon Funniest Home Videos or Whose Line is it Anyway until the sheer volume of comedy wears me down and makes me laugh. Doing something…
  • This sums it up for me. I just recently started going back to my gym again, right at the start of dark evenings and cold weather... So long as I get out the door I will go whether I look forward to it or not. And by the time you get out of the gym all hot and tired, the cold air outside can actually feel pretty good.
  • 5'6" Start - 212 Current - 186 Goal - 160 My old goal was 180 and I felt little difference when I got there, then gained back. It feels far away now...
  • * CDs and DVDs under five dollars a piece. * New work out clothes. * Redbox rentals or online streaming. * Online games, as in the steam website. * See a movie in the theater. * Take a day trip somewhere you don't normally make the time to go to. * small trinkets like keychains, pins, etc
  • Chia and milled flax in my oatmeal for more fiber. I find the chia seeds to be pretty entertaining because they get this gel like membrane around them from liquids. They do like to get stuck in teeth, though, which can be bothersome. I haven't found them to have a particular taste otherwise, they are inoffensive overall.
  • The scale doesn't tell everything. To elaborate a bit- If you're not seeing a change in your weight, you might be missing changes in other body measurements. Inches from your waist, neck, thighs, and so on. Change comes in many ways and it is good to be attentive to them all.
  • I don't really resent my parents, however I do wish they might have been more active in my eating habits... My dad in particular had enabled me to eat very poorly. I don't blame him for that, I have certainly taken advantage of his generosity in going out for fast food and preparing me comfort foods as a kid. I just wish…
  • I can no longer deflect the concerns around my health, hoping they will go away on their own if I ignore them and pretend they don't exist. This includes refusing to acknowledge the negative effects that some of my habits have on me, like gorging on food or refusing to go to the gym. I try to take a more proactive approach…
  • Pricerite and Aldi's for most of my produce. There is also a couple local farms that I like to go to for produce sometimes, and the occasional baked good. For our chop meat it's the Meat Depot, another local place. Most everything else, it could be Big Y (they have nice pizza dough) or Wal Mart for dry goods. Pretty much,…
  • Reeses Puffs. I rarely indulge in it now because it's hard to cut myself off from the box. Been wanting Cocoa Puffs recently too, those tough chocolate rocks.
  • You've stated it pretty succinctly. Some days when I eat a ludicrous amount, and it just keeps going, I decide whether or not to log it. If I do log it, it is more out of morbid curiosity than anything else. When I don't log it, it doesn't change the fact that it's in my body... Logging dutifully can help to keep yourself…
  • Mixing in blackberries or blueberries is very nice. It tastes a lot like cream cheese, the texture is something of an acquired taste for me. Would be good on toasted raisin bread I imagine. I have also found using it as coleslaw dressing instead of the mayo/cider type of dressing works pretty well.
  • One of my staple snacks at work consists of almonds, cashews, pecans, and sunflower seeds. Altogether I only have about 2-3 oz... but that can take you pretty far. Peanuts are good too. Maybe try dried apricots or other dried fruits? It is all good stuff, just be aware of added salt and sugar. That has been an issue for me.
  • I was sitting at my desk, stretching and yawning. Mid stretch my hand grazed something hard on my neck, and it startled me. It turned out it was the muscles in my neck standing out! My neck still fascinates and creeps me out as I continue to get more definition there.
  • Straight off the peel. Can't wait very long to prepare it before I want to take a bite.
  • Carrots and cabbage were big ones for me. Cabbage has to be uncooked, though. The smell of stuffed cabbage in particular makes me gag, no joke... I also have recently discovered avocado. Big appreciation for mushrooms and eggplant now, too. Sweet potato was easy to acquire a taste for. Tomatoes, I am still fighting. Most…
  • Oy. I had a pair of dark blue jeans that I held onto for over NINE YEARS. Waiting for the day I would finally slim down enough to fit into them. They were size 16 but were always insanely tight. Well, the day finally came this past month that I tried them on again. And that was when I discovered... the band was still…
  • I take walks around the building during my breaks and I have found that people here love to stock candy, donuts, and chips all over the place.. And today there are at least two cakes sitting out in different places. Goodness. For the most part these things aren't in sight from my actual desk, so it's no issue so long as I…
  • I had four incision sites as well. They did say laproscopic surgery would mean a quicker recovery, but I don't recall anyone telling me I'd be up and walking around after only one day of recovery. Although after the surgery when I was hopped up on painkillers, apparently I told my family I'd be doing cartwheels in no…
  • When I first joined my gym the trainer said that the gym should be your second home. I wouldn't say I feel that connected with the place, but it isn't something I dread like I would have in the past. The gym helps get me out of the house and away from both my desk and all the food in the pantry. It gives me a sense of…
  • It is good for some therapeutic reasons, as others have said. I have a weak tendon and numb ankle that I am only able to really work when I'm waist deep in the water, so it's nice to be able to strengthen that with some gentle exercises between laps. I have no technique to speak of when I get in the pool besides flail…
  • I definitely take every advantage I get to get up from my desk and go to the restroom or refill my water bottle, to break up the sitting time. In the bathroom I am tempted to try do to pull-ups on the stall dividers but I'm afraid I'd bring the whole thing down, assuming I even had the upper body strength.
  • I avoid the term binge for its clinical definition. What I do, I tend to call gorging. I gorge on potatoes, candy, or whathaveyou. It's usually emotionally charged, or rather a lack of emotion when I'm feeling depressed. What normally happens is I am aware I feel depressed and that puts a hollow feeling inside me. I make…
  • I didn't really want to have surgery, but after seeing the MRI for myself, I understood why the surgeon had such an easy time recommending to have it done. I don't regret having either surgery done, although I wish it hadn't come to that. Everything that has happened with my gall bladder and the disc, has challenged my…
  • Thank you everyone. I have been trying to introduce a lot more vegetable into my diet. It is a half success, as some days I manage to get some green into every meal, and other times I just say "not today." It is a work in progress. Before the MRI came in I had received two spinal injections, which I think were what really…
  • Thank you everyone for the responses. When it comes to walking, I hope for spring to come soon to make it easier. The rest of the time I prefer walking in the mall that is nearby, as it is very large. I will try to be more active. At least a walk around the apartment complex would be a start, I suppose. I was in physical…
  • I just watched that documentary earlier this week, as well as a few others that were available on netflix. It got me interested in juicing, but more as a supplement to my diet, rather than fasting. It made me curious how juicing your own fruits and veg compare to buying something like V8, if that is comparable at all. I…
  • I've been eyeing a Haagen Dazs counter at the mall for a couple weeks now, especially this dulce de leche "dazzler" they have. Three scoops of ice cream, banana, and warm caramel... I decided to look up the nutritional info before buying this thing and found out it is something like 1100 calories. No kidding! I have…
